4. Surprise, you've got a letter

Jasmine shuts the door, sighing as she walks back into her apartment and sees Simon standing in the kitchen. "Hey, what are you doing?"

"Well, I thought you could use the energy? Have you even eaten yet? It's 2:40 pm and I bet you haven't eaten anything... have you?" she sighed, running a hand through her wild maim.

"No... but I was planning to."

"When?" he asked, she didn't reply as Simon walked over to the fridge to retrieve tomatoes, eggs, and cheese, "Exactly, I'll make you an omelet, so just relax."

She giggled at the kind gesture. "So..."

"So what...?"

"So, what did you think of Marcus? You didn't look too pleased to see me talking to him."

"Well, he didn't seem pleased to see me."

She grinned, holding back her laughter. "Well, when you stared at him like a lion does a gazelle he's hunting-I don't blame him. Do you?" Jasmine glanced up at Simon to see his cheeks twitching with humor. "You're so wicked Simon, and I know you wanna laugh," she said, walking towards the island to sit on the cushioned stool before him.

He grinned, showing off his smirk. "It's not my fault he's scared of a man who's the same exact height as he is. I just wanted to know who was at the door."

She rolled her eye. "Yeah, sure ya did, dad." he chuckled, making her shake her head. "You're so ridiculous."

The edge of his lip quirked up, "Only when I want to be." he said while he skillfully cropped up a tomato into tiny cubes

She rolled her eyes in a playful manner. "So... why didn't Andy come over herself?" she asked, twirling a lock of hair around her index finger.

"Actually, she was in her office and I wasn't busy so I opted to come over and see if you were still alive." she hummed softly.

"Thanks for checking up on me... and telling me about the book signing. It didn't occur to me that I had one... wait. I didn't have one." Jasmine gritted her teeth when realization dawned on her. "I am certain I didn't have one." she said with more conviction. She pushed back her seat. "Simon, excuse me for a minute." She hopped off the stool and walked off towards her office. Jasmine was about to blow up Andy's phone and demand an answer for why she had a surprise book signing that she knew she hadn't agreed to. She wanted time off from formal events so she could focus on writing that damn new novel that refused to flow.

She grabbed her cell and swiped on her phone, pressing 4 on the speed dial as Andy's number came up on the screen. "This lady better answer or I'll march down to her office and she'll see." the call got picked up on the third ring.

"Andy what the hell is wrong with you?! I have a life you know! What is with the sudden book signing?!"

"Calm down Jazzy, the signing is for the fans back home, you've been gone for too long, they miss you." her tone was smooth and confident and Jasmine hated her for it.

"Well, I need rest. They'll see me when I'm fully rested. What kind of publicist are you?" she barked.

"The one that knows how to help you make money and make you become more famous than you already are."

Jasmine took a second to mull this over then grumbled angrily. "I hate you." she knew what Andy had said was true and she didn't like knowing that it was. She needed time away from the crowds of book hungry fans, she wanted at least a few weeks of normalcy, was that too much to ask for? She flopped onto her chair as she listened to Andy give her the, you're-a-star-now speech.

She clicked off the call once Andy had said her peace and dropped the phone down to the desk. "I hate her." she stood from her chair and walked to the kitchen. "Simon?"

"Yes."

"Did Andy happen to tell you when my book signing was, or where it will be held-or anything useful so I could prepare?"

He nodded. "Yes, she gave me this sheet of paper, one moment while I get it." he set down the cooking utensils and walked back to the couch where his jacket was draped over the back of it and pushed his hands into the pocket to pull out a white letter envelope and presented to her. "Here, this is for you, it isn't sealed, and I haven't read it." she took it, her eyes looking back at his.

Jasmine opened the envelope and took out the neatly folded sheet and unfolded it to read what Andy had given her.

Her eyes caught the most important parts: 'next week Thursday, 2:10 pm at 14th street, Barnes and Noble.' it was for her book signing and a meet and greet. She shook her head. Andy was one sneaky little mouse. She read the last lines of the letter and scoffed.

'Sorry for the surprise BS and M&G. It was requested from a lot of your US fans and Ginelle was told to contact you about it. Please don't be mad at me. I'll owe you donuts.' the note ended on her formal goodbye and Jasmine folded back the letter and sighed.

"Bad News?" her eyes lifted and found Simon's own patiently waiting.

"Are you busy next Thursday?" her tone was tired as if she had already given up.

"Not at all. What time will you be needing me?"

"The signing is at 2:10 pm."

"Then I shall be there for 1:20 pm." she gave him a smile. Simon was such a reliable member of her team.

"Thank you so much." she stepped forward and hugged him. "You're the best Simon."

"And as are you. Don't worry about Andy, you'll be fine. Just set your alarms and I shall also call to remind you." he rubbed his hands up and down her arms to calm her agitated mood. "Let me finish your breakfast then. Go relax."

"Relax? Sorry, but that word has been deleted from my vocabulary." he laughed and shook his head at her silliness.
