#Hangout with Gaby Cabezut

One more day to the weekend, aren't we all excited!!!

Just before the partying kicks off, we have on today's #Hangout, the sensational gabycabezut joining us for the Wattpad Block Party Special.

Hi Gabriela, thanks for joining us on our Thursday #Hangout Wattpad Block Party Special. Must confess, your name's always seemed a bit hard to pronounce. What nationality are you?

Hi thank you for having me! My name is Gabriela, actually! haha and I'm Mexican. English is my second language and it's so funny that I'm scared to write in Spanish more than in English. I always say that I'm quirky like that .

Anyway, I'm a Mom and I run an itsy-bitsy cake business from my house. As of lately, I occupy myself writing romance stories and wattpading as much as I can!

When did you join Wattpad and what made you sign-up?

I joined about six years ago. I was scrolling through the app store, looking for books to read and I came across Wattpad. I downloaded the app and my life changed forever.

My second baby had just been born and I remember reading like crazy instead of sleeping as I should!

I was a silent reader for like a year, and on a courageous moment, I decided to post a story of my own, just for fun. I made it specifically in English since most of my reading was in that language (and also...no one would know that I was trying out this writing thing).

Writing was my secret for like the next couple of years. Not even my husband knew about it. Until I got a tweet from someone from Wattpad. And then a call...and the rest is history.

Skipping a host of other stuff, 51.4 million reads and 600, 000 votes on Prince with Benefits is jaw dropping. What's that book about?

It's the story about a latin girl who has recently broken up her engagement and was forced to move to England with her Mom. Her parents had a nasty divorce and her Mom sort of run away back to her country. She's not too happy to be there but while she's trying to figure out things with her Mom, she bumps into a mysterious stranger, who looks like the prince of England, but what are the odds, right?

At the end, he is the actual Prince and she can't fight the attraction she feels for him. However, she's super scared of the commitment and you know, the press and all that.

I had this idea for a while in my head, I always wanted to write it but was too scared to try to. Wattpad provided the best place to let my imagination run wild and for some reason, people really liked it. I always feel extremely lucky about the reads and votes it has.

How'd you manage to garner such success while trying to balance writing, reading, cake decorating and family? (Did you have specific times/days for writing or just added a few words when you could?)

Well, for starters, I took forever to finish the story. It took me three years to write. I sneaked in time in the mornings, mostly when my kids were at school. It was a secret, so it was hard to keep up with the updates. I never edited or I wouldn't have posted anything in the first place, and to be honest, I don't think I was aware of how everything happened. There were days were I couldn't write and when I got back online, I had more reads and stuff, but I didn't realize how big it all was. It was mostly for fun and I only wrote when I had the whole chapter planned in my head, and that I liked it.

Now, things are much different. Writing is my main job. I have post-its all over the house and when there are days that I don't write, I feel like I'm missing something. And I have to add that my family supports me so much! I wouldn't have done it without them!

So you're traditionally published with two different publishers. How'd that happen?

I was approached by Summit books through Facebook, pretty much at the same time, Wattpad HQ contacted me. It was at that moment that I realized that this was huge, that I could actually get published (and I totally had to come clean with my family and friends!). Wattpad sort of endorsed Summit, they told me they had worked with them and that they were serious publishers. That did it for me.

And with Limitless Publishing, I queried Hopelessly Imperfect. That story was so dear and close to me and it was one of my most emotional stories, that I wanted it out there. But I knew it's not a fairytale like Prince with benefits, so, I didn't have a chance with Summit Books.

Why Philippines? Most writers would rather wait for an Australian or European contract.

Because Wattpad endorsed them! LOL

I don't know. I queried it with two American publishers (I didn't know about Limitless Publishing then) and they both rejected me. And Summit Books is one of the top publishers in the Philippines, so why not?

You're listed to be featured on the Wattpad Block Party--Summer Edition II. Would this be your first time? How'd you get to know about the Wattpad Block Party?

I found out about it because I was featured in Apryl Baker's my crazy corner blogspot and I read about Kelly Anne, so I approached her last year and she was kind enough to give me a spot on the first summer edition. I've been featured ever since.

What should everyone be expecting for the Wattpad Block Party? What are you expecting for the Wattpad Block Party?

It's always fun to read so many different and sometimes random posts in a month! I love that anyone can share anything and everyone is supportive of each other. That's what I like most about it all. You get to learn about a lot of writers each day!

I won't say what I wrote for the Wattpad Block Party because I'm a meanie. I'll only say that it's sweet.

Are you going to be offering any giveaways?

Yes! I'm giving away a Hopelessly Imperfect ebook!

What book got you like...?

The first book I read on Wattpad was A proscriptive relationship. I can only say I didn't sleep until I finished it. And now that I get to chat with Jordan, I'm always in awe. I'm such a fangirl!

Thank you again for having me! Don't forget to check out Writer's Luck. It's super fun! And don't forget to follow RomanceSparks and our weekly Twitter chats at 8 pm/EST following #WPSparks
