Week 3: Up All Night

Super long chapter - a lot happens in a day!

_____

Fortunately, we were able to sleep in the following morning since the cocktail party and its surprise guests kept us up quite late. We were told to order something from room service if we wanted breakfast, and that our day's activities would begin with a late lunch at 1:00 in yet another ballroom located in the hotel. The dress code was "dressy casual," but the Candle Ceremony would be later this evening, so that surely meant a change of clothing some time later in the day.

The show's producers were being pretty tight-lipped about the rest of the agenda for today, but we were all hoping our special guests would be arriving in time for lunch. I was beside myself with excitement to see my dad and Allegra. Ariana was expecting her parents, so I thought that would be awesome as well, to meet some of her family. It did make me curious, though, for the Candle Ceremony since two more women would be eliminated. I supposed it would be comforting to have family there to console them. I just hoped that I wouldn't be one of the women going home, but since Harry had been keeping me at arm's length, I didn't know for sure.

Ariana and I got ready for lunch excitedly. She was truly adorable and I could see why Harry liked her. It was strange, though, because even though I should have considered her my biggest competitor, I didn't. She was actually my closest friend on the show.

We had been told to wait in our rooms until either security or a producer came to escort us to lunch. That heightened the anticipation even more. It was already around 1:20 when Claudia knocked on our door and told us we could follow her to the ballroom where lunch - and hopefully family and friends - were awaiting us.

We arrived at a set of double doors where two doormen, who must have worked for the hotel because I'd never seen them before, opened them upon our arrival. I scanned the room seeing lots of new faces and some the women already reuniting with them. My heart raced as I searched, but my eyes hadn't wandered long when I spied my father with an enormous grin on his face. I ran straight into his arms and let him hug me for a long time. Then I met Allegra's giddy embrace.

The first words out of her mouth were, "Holy fucking shit! Harry Styles? I knew there was a reason I made you do this!"

I laughed at her unbridled excitement. "Yeah, I have to admit it turned out pretty well," I said with a telltale grin on my face. We sat down to wait for our lunch, and I briefly noticed that Harry wasn't in the room yet. "Wait, where's Jason?" I wondered.

"He couldn't make it. So your dad and I hopped a flight together. Convenient, right?" Allegra asked loudly.

"Of course," I said. "Someone to talk your ear off the whole way here, right Dad?"

"Shut up," Allegra said playfully.

"Well, it wasn't a boring flight," my dad pitched in, totally tongue in cheek.

Allegra retorted, "It's a good thing your daughter is my best friend." Then she turned to tell or ask me more, but Harry entered just then without any pomp and circumstance, which made me kind of proud of him. Not that I think he begged for it, but what Louis had told me the night before was starting to sink in more, that Harry really just wanted to be considered a regular guy. And Harry himself had told us that a number of times as well, but maybe I wasn't listening well enough.

"Oh, my god," she whispered too loudly. "That's Harry Freaking Styles."

I looked at her like she was just slightly more insane than usual. "Of course, did you think they were lying when they said it was him, and that I was just playing along?"

Ben took the microphone and welcomed everyone just then for a formal introduction. "Hello everyone. My name is Ben Winston and I've known Harry for a few years now and I've worked closely with One Direction. So if any of you parents out there are wondering if Harry is the real deal, he is. He has a very genuine heart and a lovable personality, so I hope you take some time to get to know him today. Please let me remind you of one more thing: You have all signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement which means that you are not allowed to take pictures or share any information about your time visiting the show." Harry just waved and gave everyone a massive, one-of-a-kind grin. I glanced at my dad who very discreetly gave me a thumbs up, which in turn made me giggle uncontrollably. Maybe it was the nerves getting to me, but I finally forced myself to stop.

Ben continued, "We would love for each of the ladies to introduce themselves and their guests." He started with the closest table, which was Dove and what looked to be her mom and possibly an older female relative, both of whom were dressed as if they were meeting royalty.

Dove stood up and said, "Hello everyone. I'm Dove. This is my mother, Anastasia, and my aunt Beverly." Polite applause followed. Everyone else followed suit, either introducing parents, other relatives, or friends. I was surprised that guests showed up for Bianca, Lucy and Ariana because they were all from other countries, but since the show paid for the flights and accommodations, I guess it wasn't so hard to believe after all. It was actually quite interesting to see the family resemblance between some of the guests and my fellow contestants.

When it was my turn, I proudly stood and introduced myself. Then even more proudly, I said, "This is my dad, Kevin and my best friend Allegra." They both waved and I stole a glance up at Harry and he gave me a warm smile.

After the introductions were finished, Harry took over. "Thank you all so much for being here. It really means a lot to me." Allegra looked at me and mouthed out Oh my god at the sound of Harry's voice, or maybe his accent, probably both. "I look forward to getting to know all of you throughout today and this evening. And for those of you who don't know, my sister Gemma has been traveling with us for a few weeks." Gemma stood and gave a quick wave. "Some of my honorary family are going to be here a bit later as well. You might know them better as the other members of One Direction-" Several cheers erupted after that part of the announcement. "-But for now, I think it's time we eat. I'm starving."

Allegra looked at me with mock anger in her eyes. "You didn't tell me the other guys were going to be here, too."

"You were too busy yapping, I couldn't find a chance to tell you." I shrugged and she laughed.

"It's a good thing Jason didn't come with me," she said with a smirk on her face. "Then at least I can flirt with superstars."

"Hey now," I corrected her lightly. "Jason loves you."

"And I love him!" She insisted. "But I'll be damned if I'm going to pass up the opportunity to flirt with Liam Payne, at least a little bit."

My dad just sat there and quietly laughed at our banter. Lunch was soon served and we dug in eagerly. Finally, Dad simply said, "Harry seems like a nice guy."

I had to hold back a chuckle because he said it so nonchalantly, as if Harry wasn't a freaking superstar. But I kept having to remind myself that he wanted to be seen as an ordinary person, even though it seemed impossible simply because of his intense good looks and his insanely attractive personality.

"He's great, Dad," I smiled.

"So did you guys do it yet?" Allegra asked without even looking up at her salad. I burst into laughter and was joined by my dad. "I know, I know," she said. "Your father's here and you don't want to talk about it in front of him."

"No," I said, still laughing. "He asked me the same thing!"

"Mr. Blackwood!" Allegra exclaimed. "I didn't know you had it in you."

"To answer your question, no," I said. "That's kind of discouraged on the show. Besides, I'd be pretty pissed if he was sleeping around."

"Well, you're the front runner, aren't you?" Allegra asked, gulping her water.

"What makes you say that?" I questioned. "You've been here less than an hour."

"Well, you're my best friend and that automatically makes you the front runner," she said, as if it should have been obvious.

"If you must know, I actually sort of accused him of sleeping with someone else just a few days ago." I bit my lip, feeling really stupid about it now. "He's still kind of mad at me about that."

"You jerk!" Allegra said, only half teasing. "What if he sends you home now?"

"To be honest, I'm a little worried about that," I whispered, feeling the tears welling up in my eyes. Dammit! I pushed myself back from the table and scurried to the bathroom so no one would see me losing it at the table.

Allegra followed me, of course. "I'm sorry, Harper. Is it really that bad?"

"I don't know," I said, throwing my hands in the air. "He told me I was the one who meant the most to him; at least I was before all this happened. He said he forgave me, but he's been kind of distant since it happened."

"How long ago was that?" She wondered.

"Thursday morning," I replied.

"That's not even three days ago!" She yelled. "Give him some time. How can he not be in love with you? You're awesome! You want me to talk to him?"

"No! I definitely do not want you to talk to him. Louis gave me a little pep talk last night, so that helped."

"Louis Tomlinson gave you a pep talk and you act like it's no big deal?" She said incredulously.

"Whatever," I said, checking my make up to make sure it didn't look like I'd been crying. "Let's go eat lunch." When we returned to the ballroom, Harry looked at me with questions in his eyes. I gave him a half-hearted smile, knowing we couldn't talk about anything just then. I assured my dad that I was fine and we finished our lunch rather quietly.

Every so often, the cameras would zoom in on our table and my dad would sort of freeze up, while Allegra blew kisses in the most cheesy way.

"It's...interesting for the cameras to be on us all the time," Dad said. "I hope I don't have any food on my face."

"You're fine," I said, smiling. "But yeah, it was hard to get used to. It's still hard sometimes when we're trying to have a deep conversation. Or when we've had too much to drink, which happens often." My dad shot me a pointed look and I said, "Not that I  get drunk often. It's just that some people have said some embarrassing things while under the influence. And you know they're going to use the juiciest stuff when they pull it all together for the TV broadcast."

Once lunch was cleaned up, Harry started making his way around to each of us, wanting to get to know our families. I was grateful when he started with mine because I didn't want to sit there wondering how he would interact with my father and Allegra, or me, for that matter.

"Hi, I'm Harry," he said, approaching my father first.

"Duh, we know who you are," Allegra laughed stupidly.

"Nice," I said sarcastically to Allegra. "Harry, this is Allegra, my best friend, the one you can thank for my partial insanity and my total participation in The World's Most Eligible Bachelor."

His eyes widened. "You're Allegra!" He gushed. He squeezed her in a massive hug. "Thank you for talking Harper into this! You are the best friend ever." Allegra gave me a sarcastic smirk.

"How are you, Harper?" He asked, leaning over to give me tight hug. I missed this, even though it had really only been a few days.

"I'm doing fine, Harry," I replied. He pulled away just enough to give me that look, the one that said he didn't believe me. I didn't want to talk about it right then and there, obviously. "I'll be okay," I insisted. "Maybe we can talk later."

Luckily, he didn't press the issue. Instead, he made small talk with Dad and Allegra which they clearly enjoyed. I could tell he made a great impression on them, which wasn't hard because, as previously mentioned, he was ridiculously lovable.

After the formalities, I went back to my room with Dad and Allegra in tow. It was a sizable suite and Ariana would still have plenty of space for her visitors. I crashed for a little while on the window seat while my dad browsed TV channels and Allegra chatted with Jason on her phone.

Dinner was scheduled for 6 PM at a nearby restaurant, so I started primping at about four, happy to have Allegra's assistance since Ariana was occupied with her family. No one knew what the entire evening entailed, but the Candle Ceremony would be included at some point, so the standard dress code was formal. I honestly couldn't imagine what the night would involve, besides another cocktail party with the 1D guys since they said we'd see them again today.

I chose my favorite dress out of all the ones I had bought with Allegra. It was a classic black dress with a sheer layer of black hanging lower, covered in white flowers. Complete with the spiky heels I'd finally learned to walk in, and a half-updo that Allegra made look perfect, I felt almost like Cinderella. Well, in black instead of blue. And brown hair instead of blonde.

My dad wore a classic 3-piece suit and Allegra, well, let's just say that she has her own unique taste and she always makes it work.

Again, we were ushered by Claudia, this time to a party bus that would take us the ten blocks to the restaurant. It seemed like overkill, but I guess we didn't know where we were going afterwards. We arrived at a restaurant that was much more formal than we'd ever been to with Harry. And the real surprise was that Harry wasn't even there.

Ben welcomed us again, telling us that Harry was getting ready for the next portion of the night and he would meet us at the next venue. That was a little disappointing, but I was still thrilled to have the company of two other people whom I loved dearly. They enjoyed the restaurant and the special treatment. The other women were having a fabulous time too.

I couldn't stop ogling everyone's gorgeous dresses for the evening. Everyone seemed to have chosen their most special gowns for tonight, perhaps because we all felt there was some unique energy flowing, but none of us quite knew why that was.

Champagne was flowing freely and surely, too much was consumed. But no one seemed out of control. I made a point to not drink too much since I had told my dad I hadn't been overdoing it. He would be shocked if he knew what a lush I really had become! As we returned to the party bus to deliver us to our next destination, it was much more noisy than the first ride had been. Everyone was poured a fresh glass of champagne, even though I doubted we would even have time to consume it.

Sure enough, not even twenty minutes later, we pulled up outside of the Beacon Theater with their marquis boldly proclaiming Welcome World's Most Eligible Bachelor! Several girls and their guests screamed just a bit, saying that the boys had performed here on their first tour, the Up All Night tour. I had crammed in a ton of their history since I'd been on the show, but I guess I missed that important detail. It was pretty cool that we were going to one of the places where the guys first performed. And then I think I started to figure out what was happening.

With security completely sectioning off the entrance to the theater, we exited the buses and were able to walk straight into the theater without hassle. But there were tons of screaming fans who undoubtedly wanted a glimpse of Harry, or maybe they had gotten wind of the other three being here as well. It gave me a new appreciation for what Harry faced on a regular basis.

As we were directed into the actual theater seating area, we noticed posters reminiscing the boys' first concert there. I found the photos and New York Times article adorable.

Again, the hype about this particular venue and its significance was quite overwhelming for me. It was actually hard to place Harry as that young boy in those pictures from only four years ago. But I think that was a good sign that I had really begun to think of Harry as a regular guy - a rather extraordinary regular guy. Having pieces of his fame shoved in my face was a reality check. How on earth had this mega-star even noticed plain, quiet little me?

We took our seats and Ben soon came on stage to speak. "Hello again! Welcome to the Beacon Theater. As you have probably already guessed, this venue holds a special place in One Direction's heart, being one of the venues they played during their first tour. Now with all you beautiful women and your special guests, Harry wanted specifically to share an event with you that would help you to understand how much One Direction is part of his life. So, without any further introduction, I present to you, One Direction!"

Music blasted through the auditorium and many screams followed as we all realized that we were going to be treated to a private One Direction concert. Even my dad looked super excited. The lights dimmed and the curtains opened. I knew this song from way back when, before I even knew who One Direction was or ever had the slightest dream that I might be romantically involved with Harry Styles.

Liam sang the opening lines, and I swear everyone knew them and sang along, even Dove's mother and aunt.

You're insecure,
Don't know what for,
You're turning heads when you walk through the door,
Don't need make-up, to cover up,
Being the way that you are is enough

Harry took over and seriously made us all laugh and screech at the same time with his sexy and silly persona. No one else could ever pull that off the way he did.

Everyone else in the room can see it,
Everyone else but you

Baby you light up my world like nobody else,
The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed,
But when you smile at the ground it ain't hard to tell,
You don't know, oh oh,
You don't know you're beautiful,
If only you saw what I can see,
You'll understand why I want you so desperately,
Right now I'm looking at you and I can't believe,
You don't know, oh oh,
You don't know you're beautiful, oh oh,
That's what makes you beautiful

I had been to a fair number of concerts, growing up in California, but nothing was ever this exciting for me. All of the guys were exceptionally handsome and talented, but Harry was the complete package now seeing that his talent lined up with every other extraordinary thing about him. To top it off, he was wearing the sexiest shirt I've ever seen, with his trademark skinny jeans. It was a black button up with maroon-colored flowers, but the entire front panel was sheer so that, even what was covered up by buttons - which was usually a small amount of skin for Harry - was visible in a more exotic and tantalizing way. God, I hoped my dad couldn't sense how intensely turned on I was and that he couldn't see that I was practically drooling. Of course, Allegra noticed and yelled in my ear, "Holy shit, they're so hot!"

Yes, I know, Allegra. Dear lord, do I know.

They sang a variety of songs from all their albums, at least from what I gathered. I knew that What Makes You Beautiful was their first hit, and that Perfect was off their most recent album. I couldn't name all of the remaining songs, nor could I point to which album they were from, but it was really the best show I'd ever seen. I was biased, of course.

As the guys finished up their performance, they all took a bow, said they would freshen up and then they would be out to greet everyone in the lobby. Luckily Harry also included that the candle ceremony would take place around 10:00 PM back here in the auditorium. It wasn't far from our minds at this point, and the secrecy of the past few days was weighing heavily on all of us.

As promised, Louis, Niall, Liam, and of course, Harry met us all in the lobby, to many more screams, shouts and applause. Allegra seriously just about fainted when Niall hugged her. And she did indeed flirt like crazy with Liam, but I wasn't going to tell Jason. It was pretty harmless, I suppose and it wasn't every day that she got to meet all the members of One Direction. But he might catch sight of it if they included the footage in the actual TV show.

When she met Louis, being her not very subtle self, Allegra said, "So, your BFF and my BFF. We should probably talk."

I was about to chastise her for embarrassing the hell out of me, but Louis laughed and said, "I think that sounds like a great idea," and off they wandered, talking about who knows what. Hopefully nothing too humiliating.

Harry eventually wandered to my part of the lobby while my dad got to know some of the other parents and family members of the other contestants.

"Hey," he said, leaning in to hug me again. I was disappointed that he wasn't wearing the same shirt as he did for the concert. In hindsight, I'm sure he wouldn't have smelled very nice, although I imagined that even a sweaty mess of Harry would still be completely charming. When he pulled back from the hug, he asked, "How are you really doing, Harper?"

I took a deep breath and admitted, "I'm still beating myself up over..." My words dropped off as I noticed the camera zooming in. I wasn't sure how much everyone was aware of. I gathered my thoughts and continued, "...over um, what happened. I hope you know how sorry I am."

"I already forgave you, remember?" He said, smiling warmly. With the camera recording everything, that was all he could say to allay my fears. It was absolutely forbidden for him to reveal who would stay and who would go.

"Thanks, Harry," I said, suddenly feeling uncomfortable with so much attention focused on me. "I'll see you later." My exit was abrupt, but I honestly wanted to beg Harry for an answer. But knowing that would be used against me and played back for the whole world once the show aired, I just shoved the temptation away. I just had to keep my cool and wait for what would hopefully not be an abrupt exit from Harry's life.

Thankfully, we moved quickly to the Candle Ceremony. Ben called us back into the auditorium, with the remaining nine of us on stage facing Harry, where we all stood at an angle so our backs wouldn't be to anyone in the audience, and neither would his.

Ben once again announced the next part of the activities, but he didn't have to say much. Harry took over and said, "Wow, I didn't realize how much pressure this would be, having to send two of you home tonight while your parents are watching. I hope none of your fathers have a gun on them." Luckily, everyone laughed. It could have backfired for anyone without a sense of humor, but I think Harry brought that out in people, too. I personally couldn't understand anyone who could go through life without a sense of humor.

"All right, well, let's get started," Harry said with a quiver to his voice. He had just performed on stage for all of us, and he was accustomed to playing to arenas of 50,000 fans, but here, he was trembling with nervous energy, which was kind of a new sight for all of us. I was thankful he didn't have to eliminate three women tonight since Sara had eliminated herself with her poor judgment. Or maybe it was just poor timing - I had to admit Lucien was pretty hot, but most of us knew better than to literally fuck around with the staff.

Harry took a deep breath and began calling names. "Ariana."

She practically skipped over to him. "Will you stay?" He asked, and of course her reply was yes.

"Jordin."

"Jamie."

When they heard her name, Jamie's parents cheered louder than all the rest of us combined. It was obvious they totally supported her fangirl personality. Although they were dressed formally now, they had arrived for lunch wearing t-shirts featuring a photo of One Direction on the front messages on the back which read Future Father-in-Law of Harry Styles and Future Mother-in-Law of Harry Styles. It was a bit corny, but I knew from researching the band's history that people had gone to much greater and crazier extremes to get the guys' attention. Harry seemed to appreciate it at the time.

"Brittany."

"Lucy."

"Victoria."

Ben stepped in just then, reminding us that there was only one candle left. The weight of the moment was just hitting me. There were three of us left - Dove, Bianca, and me. I felt nauseous in an instant, thinking I would surely be the one to go. But when Harry finally spoke, I let out an audible sigh of relief.

"Harper."

When I stood in front of him, he knew that I had been worried since I had tears forming in my eyes. He asked me to stay, and then he hugged me securely. "Did you really think I'd let you go?" He whispered into my ear. The only response I could give was to kiss him on the cheek as we pulled away.

I lit my candle but I couldn't bear to look at Dove. I felt a little bit sorry for her. I knew that Harry had seen her true colors, but I also knew that, despite her terrible treatment of the rest of us, she had really believed it was going to be her.

When Ben addressed them and told them to pack their bags, I finally moved to hug Bianca. I was going to miss her sass, but I didn't remember her having a very strong connection with Harry. And she didn't seem the least bit upset, to be honest.

Dove was a different story. I could see the regret in her eyes when I hugged her. She was struggling hard to hold it together, but she managed to say, "I'm sorry," before she pulled away. "I think he really loves you," she whispered.

I wiped a stray tear that had fallen for her and said quietly, "Niall is still single." I bit my lip, hoping that would just make her laugh and she did, so I knew we were good. It would be much easier without her around. She was like that one relative that you loved to hate, but if they were gone, you knew your life would be a little less colorful.

The rest of the women were making their way down off the stage to greet their families and friends, but I felt someone touch my shoulder. I was surprised by Harry's voice. "Can we go somewhere and talk for a few minutes?"

He was very quiet about it, but when I nodded, he pulled me backstage, out through a hall and to what I assumed was his dressing room. All without a camera following, which was quite a feat considering this whole event was about him!

As soon as he shut the door to the dimly lit room, he took hold of my hips and pressed me against the wall, only a few feet from the door, which I would later learn was locked, thankfully. He descended on me quickly with a very sexy kiss, immediately thrusting himself into the task of claiming my mouth as his own. His tongue worked in perfect rhythm with his lips, causing me to feel heated and dizzy. His hands slid firmly up and down my sides as his body pinned me to the wall and his hips bore against mine in a whimper-inducing move. Our kisses had never been so erotic before and I could hardly keep up.

He finally pulled back, giving me a chance to breathe. "Is this what you wanted to talk about?" I asked in a breathless laugh.

Instead of answering me with any discernible words, he mumbled, "Mmmhmm," as he pulled my hair away from my neck and kissed the sensitive skin there. He made his way up to the spot just under my ear that made me whimper again.

"What's gotten into you?" I said, laughing lightly again, yet very pleased with the fact that he seemed to have forgiven and forgotten everything.

"I just missed you," he murmured and I could feel his lips moving against my neck. "I'm sorry if I hurt you."

"Harry," I said a little more firmly, forcing him to look at me. "I was the one who was wrong. You get that, don't you?"

He pulled his eyebrows into a frown and nodded, but it seemed like he wasn't sure if he believed me.

"It was my fault. You forgave me and I'm very grateful. That's that," I insisted. "Unless you wanted to punish me a little more," I said, trying not to smile as I teased him.

"No," he whispered, squeezing his eyes shut tightly. But then he revealed a smile and I knew he was relaxing. "I'm sorry I never made you believe I was trustworthy-"

"Stop that," I interrupted him. "You are trustworthy. I was just scared, okay? You're doing everything right, Harry. Just keep doing what you're doing."

"I made you think I was going to send you home," he said and there was obvious regret on his face. "I hated seeing that in your eyes, but we didn't really have a chance to talk about it in private."

"You're not supposed to tell me anyway," I reasoned.

"I don't care about the rules, Harper. All I care about is that you look so fucking gorgeous tonight and you still had to go through all of this not knowing how much you mean to me."

"Just don't say anything you don't mean," I said, putting my guard up. "There are still three more weeks, and I don't expect you to promise that I'm the one you'll choose. So don't make promises you can't keep."

He leaned his forehead against mine. His words sounded strained. "I'm trying not to."

He kissed me again and I eagerly welcomed the promise of making out some more, but we were halted by a loud knock on the door.

"Harry!" Ben yelled. "Are you in there?"

He looked like the wolf in sheep's clothing. "Oops," he whispered. Then he yelled, "Yeah!"

Harry opened the door, and when Ben stepped in and saw me, he was livid. "I know you two have something for each other, but man, don't make it so obvious! You both escaped right after the Candle Ceremony and everyone is wondering where the hell you are!" He snapped. "You both have to be more careful because this is exactly what the producers don't want. They don't want either of you giving away the ending!"

"I know," Harry said, nodding penitently. "It was my fault. I dragged her back here."

"I can tell she was fighting really hard," Ben retorted quickly.

"Hey," Harry said. "Show some class, all right? Don't blame Harper. I know all about this publicity stuff and all the shit that goes with it."

"Fine," Ben said. "But Harry, you go back out there first. I'll take Harper through a different way so it's not obvious that you two were together." Harry mumbled a quiet thanks and Ben turned back to say, "You should probably wipe that lipstick off your mouth." I couldn't help but laugh, but then Ben said to me, "And you might want to fix your hair."

I didn't care that we had gotten reprimanded like two kids in middle school. Harry's apology was totally worth it.

SO...Week 3 was a busy one! I spent so much time agonizing over exactly how I wanted this week to go. I asked opinions from my husband and kids about the timing of everything and I stayed up way too late most nights, lol. I think I made it more complicated by adding the big fight, the arrival of the other 1D boys, and the family/friends visit.

I hope you appreciate what I've done for you, lol! <3
