Chapter 17

Kin, Clark, Yohei, and their team have left the city of Stolitsa. They walked along the main road to Tzami city. Despite this road is said to be dangerous, as far as Kin can see there are quite a lot of adventurers. The adventurers consist of small teams of three to four people spread out in all directions. Kin and his team, however, paid them little heed, focusing on their journey along the main road.

As they continued walking on the main road the sun started to dip below the horizon and the sky became orange. When the sun disappeared they entered the forest to conceal their tracks. Upon finding a suitable place to spend the night, Clark and Ken set up tents while Yohei, Huave, and Ria prepared dinner.

After dinner, Kin and Clark excused themselves and left their camp. They arrived somewhere that was quite far from their tent. Kin and Clark started doing practice as they usually did. This time, Kin practiced using a greatsword and began practicing the attack patterns taught by Clark. Kin and Clark thought they were far enough from the camp and Yohei and the others wouldn't know where they were. But it turned out they were wrong.

Yohei and Hauve followed them and saw the training they were doing. Yohei came out from some bush behind Clark. "Clark, Kin what are you doing?"

"Oh Yohei, are you following us?" Clark asked surprised.

"Yes. I'm sorry." Yohei replied. "I just want to make sure you both are ok."

"We're fine. As you can see right now I train Kin how to use a greatsword"

Kin swung his sword, spun around, and slashed once again in the same direction. Then he tried another pattern, and during this practice, Yohei watched Kin's every movement.

Yohei then comments about how Kin used his weapon. "Kin your movements are too stiff. Feel the change in weight as you swing your weapon. Follow it so you can deal more damage."

Kin listened to Yohei's explanation but he just stood still because he couldn't understand. After a while, he finally started to move, however, Kin's sword slipped from his grasp. Thankfully his sword didn't hit anyone.

Yohei shook his head and took out his ax. "Let me show you what I mean. Watch closely."

Yohei started to swing his ax. His movements were so fluid but still felt his strength in every movement. Clark noticed how Yohei used the ax, and he tried to imagine how it would be done with his greatsword. Meanwhile, Kin was just stunned to see how Yohei's move. Inspired, he changed his weapon from a greatsword to an ax and tried to copy Yohei's motion.

When Kin was about to mimic Yohei's movement, Yohei suddenly stopped and looked at Kin in disbelief. "You can use an ax? It's so unusual. How come a sword user, can use other weapons?"

Kin was puzzled by Yohei's observation. Clark then tried to clarify it. "For Kin, it's a little different. He can use all weapons including arrows, perhaps even magic. Possibly."

"I can use it, but I'm not sure I'm good at it. I just hope to be skilled enough to use every weapon." Kin added Clark's explanation.

"Wow, Interesting. Is there any disadvantage when not using a weapon you have not mastered yet?" Yohei asked, intrigued.

"I don't think so, but since I haven't used all the weapons there may be some exceptions. Right now, I'm just focusing on training with swords and greatswords. Just any weapons that Clark taught me." Kin replied.

"Then this isn't your first time training with Clark."

"Yes, he has been training me for one month. During that month he focused on teaching me how to use a sword, but now I asked him to start teaching me using a greatsword."

Yohei smiled. "Learning fighting with swords and greatswords must be very helpful?"

Kin nodded. "Yas... Absolutely. Moreover, before traveling with Clark I barely used any weapons."

"That's why you train so diligently."

"Ya... Hahahah." Kin chuckled while looking away in embarrassment.

"Since you have taken out the ax, try to follow my movements." Yohei instructed as he approached Kin and stood in front of him. Kin, who had already taken out the 'Hobgoblin Axe', readied his stance. Yohei was momentarily stunned by the ax Kin used. Hauve, who was watching them from afar, looked at Yohei and gave a signal. Without warning, Yohei attacked Kin with his ax. Kin cannot avoid or withstand Yohei's attacks. Just before hitting Kin's head, Yohei stopped his attack. Kin opened his eyes and took a few steps back away from Yohei.

Kin activates assist.

[Assist level 1]

[Have skills from 1 NPC for 60 minutes.

Skill required: none.

Skill cooldown: 60 minutes.

Pick NPC: Carnice, Fakiha, Glav, Clark, Ai, Guarda ...]

[Assist with Gon.]

Yohei waited patiently for Kin to get ready to receive the attack. Once Kin was ready, Yohei launched and attacked Kin again. Kin succeeded in avoiding Yohei's first attack and managed to block the second attack. However, during the third attack, suddenly Yohei's ax swung faster. Kin couldn't able to react in time. Just before the attack hit, Yohei stopped his attack again near Kin's stomach.

Yohei withdrew his ax again and waited for Kin to prepare again. Once Kin was ready, Yohei attacked Kin again, but this time with a stab. Despite that ax is not a weapon used for stabbing because its tip is not sharp like a sword, so when Yohei tried to stab with his ax, Kin was able to block the attack easily. However, Yohei connected his ax with Kin's ax and then pulled upwards, causing Kin to lose his ax from his grip.

Kin was in disbelief after his ax slipped from his hand. Even though I already used assists with Gon who is also an ax user, why did I still lose? I've learned how to use bigger weapons when using a greatsword but why I couldn't react? Kin's face reddened.

After regaining his composure, Kin walked towards where his ax fell. "I thought Ax had an attack pattern similar to a greatsword, but I cannot understand your attack pattern at all."

Yohei smiled. "Each weapon has its unique characteristics. Maybe a greatsword and a large ax might be similar in weight and size, or maybe more or less the same. Their attack patterns are generally almost the same. However, you could change where your hand holding the ax, and with this change could change the momentum of the ax and it effectif to confuse the enemy. Also with the tip of the ax that curved a little, it can be used to hook and force the enemy to disarm his weapons."

Kin tried to absorb Yohei's explanation. "So... That means an ax is stronger than a great sword?"

Yohei shook his head. "Not exactly. The long handle of an axe is vulnerable, if there was a wallplaced attack hit it, the handle could break. Plus, a sword user could counter your attempt to hook by rotating their weapon. Everything comes back to the user's abilities, that's why a lot of people focus on mastering one weapon."

"So you think I should just focus on one of the weapons?" Kin asked.

Yohei shook his hand. "No. It's not like that. It all depends on your ability to understand each type of weapon. But in theory, if you can understand and take advantage of every weapon, then you will be stronger than someone who focuses on one weapon, you'll be more versatile. It all comes back to your ability Kin."

Yohei's explanation made Kin more confused, but he still nodded. "Okay. I'll try to think about it."

Understanding Kin's confusion, Yohei suggested. "How about you continue what you have done and just try various weapons? I will also help to train you with the ax and spear."

Kin smiled, grateful with Yohei's offer. "I appreciate that. Thank you Yohei."

"You're welcome. Besides, at night we can't continue our journey. So there's no harm if we join your training every night."

With renewed determination, Kin took his ax and started practicing with Yohei. Since that night, Kin started practicing with Clark and Yohei in turn. Every time they train, Kin uses the skill 'Assist' and selects an NPC according to the type of weapon he will use as they train. With the skill 'Assist' he could use skills related to the weapons he trained.

In the morning they got ready and continued their journey to the city of Tzami. It was not uncommon for them to encounter monsters along the way. To avoid attracting the attention of the bandits, they would immediately kill every monster that appeared. The further they moved away from the Stolita city, the more frequently monsters appeared. Also, it became rare for them to encounter other adventurers.

It's been eight days since Kin and his team left Stolitsa city, and more frequently the monster attacked them. Due to that, Kin and his team tried to find the best way to eliminate all the monsters fast. So they found a way by dividing the team into three people walking on the main road while three others followed from the forest. When the monsters attacked the three on the main road, they would withstand the attack while the other three from the forest tried to pincer as fast as they could. They would attack either with Ria's magic or Ken and Kin's attacks. This method is quite effective and the time they needed to kill the monsters became faster. Additionally, having people in the forest can help in scouting, so if there is an attack from a direction that cannot be seen by those who walk on the main road the three in the forest could warn them.

Three days have passed since they implemented this strategy. Kin hoped that these conditions could be maintained until they arrived in Tzami City. He also hoped that they only got attacked by monsters and never by bandits. According to Yohei's calculations, at their current speed in five days, they would arrive at Tzami city. Even though attacks from monsters became more frequent every day, their speed to respond was also getting faster because they were used to the strategy, and the monster's level on the road between Stolitsa City to Tzami City is not very high compared to Yohei and his team level. So it's not that dangerous.

On the twelve days of their trip, Yohei suddenly slowed down and raised his hand to give a signal to stop. He looked at the team following from the forest and gave a gesture to scout the area. Ria and Ken immediately understood and they checked their surroundings. Ken told Kin so Kin also started to help check the area around them. While Ria, Ken, and Kin checked, Yohei, Clark, and Hauve formed a protective circle, keeping an eye out for threats. while checking their surroundings.

After a while, suddenly there was the sound of a branch snapping, but nothing happened after that. They focused increase to finding the source of the sound. Suddenly an arrow flew toward Yohei, but Hauve was able to react quickly and block the arrow. Then dozens of other arrows flew towards them.

"Everyone run!" Yohei quickly shouted and ran leading them.

The arrows flying towards them didn't hit Yohei and the team. Kin, Ken, and Ria, who were too late to move, quickly joined the mad dash, trying to catch Yohei and the others. However, before they could move too far, ten bandits suddenly appeared from the forest in front of them. The bandits were closing in on Yohei, Clark, and Hauve.

Kin, Ken, and Ria paused for a moment to make sure there were no other bandits. Once they were certain no bandit left, they resumed running after Yohei and the others, urgency driving their every step.
