The World of Never-ending Adventures
Lunar was an adventurous sixteen-year-old girl and had a wondering mind. Sometimes, too adventurous and wondering for her own good. Lunar was on the shorter side and stood at only five feet two inches. Her face was complimented by her long, wavy, auburn hair that enhanced her blue eyes. On this summer night, she chose to enjoy the calmness of the world around her and the gentle summer breeze that caressed her skin. She was sitting on the back steps of her little country style home that was a short distance from the forest. As she was gazing into the dark forest, golden lights began to maneuver throughout the pathway that led deeper into the forest. Her gaze moved from the darkness to the lights, causing her curiosity to get the best of her. Lunar arose from the steps to follow the golden lights. The glow of the lights illuminated the surrounding area, allowing the curious child to see where she was going. As she followed the lights deeper into the forest, she noticed a soft blue aura a short distance ahead. As she neared the golden lights, they suddenly disappeared at the base of a staircase, leaving her in the presence of the blue aura that laid at the top. Lunar let her curiosity get the best of her and began to ascend the twelve stairs. She stepped onto the twelfth step and noticed there was an archway with a portal-like entry not even a foot in front of her. Her confidence gave her a boost of courage which allowed her to step through the portal-like archway. Standing in awe on another flight of stairs, Lunar took in the beautiful colors of the new dimension around her. The wandering girl began trudging up the second flight of stairs and to the second archway. Reaching the small space of landing, she noticed the mix of blue and purple serving as the portal. After taking a breath, the sixteen-year-old girl took a step into the blue and purple mix, and into a world of the unknown. Lunar regained her balance and began walking and taking in the new world that surrounded her. Little golden lights, that were fairies, fluttered through the air. Animals wandered aimlessly. Creatures that she had never seen before and that did not exist in her world were enjoying their habitats. Plants and flowers, both common and uncommon, grew in the grassy fields that seemed to cover all the land. The people that lived there were gathering food, herbs, and other necessities they needed to survive on. The adventurous girl was baffled at all the life forms that were thriving and co-existing with one another. Everything was so vibrant colored, almost like something out of a fairytale. Lunar felt a gentle nudge on her hand causing her to look down. A small deer had its nose under her hand, hinting that it wanted to be petted. Her chest filled with warmth at the sigh of the beautiful animal that was ecstatic to befriend someone new. When she glanced back up, she was surrounded by a variety of life forms. A female human stepped forward to grasp the girl's hand. Nothing was said as the young female began leading Lunar in another direction. Lunar kept glancing around at this foreign world. Her mind refused to quit trying to grasp and process everything she was seeing. When the sixteen-year-old girl snapped out of her daydream, she noticed she was now in a tent and in front of a thick book. The other female began making gestures right before she opened the old book. 'This must be the history of this place.' Lunar thought to herself. She grabbed the book and lowered herself to sit on the dirt floor. 'Finally, the last page.' Lunar mentally did a victory dance after reading the whole book and understanding the way of life for all the living beings here.
"I see Catalina showed you the book." A voice spoke out, startling Lunar.
"Yes. It is so beautiful! How long have you all been here? How have you all lived together so well?" Lunar eagerly asked the woman.
"It is beautiful. We have done our best to make it how we thought it should be. We prosper here by all working together and respecting each other. We have lived here for a very long time. This world is sacred and only the worthy are allowed here. My sincerest apologies, my name is Esther. What is your name child?" Esther asked the girl with a smile on her lips.
"My name is Lunar." The girl smiled genuinely at Esther.
"Come with me child." Esther called out as she exited the tent.
Lunar followed the woman eagerly, wanting to see all that was offered here. It was hard to tell how much time had passed by when Esther finished showing the adventurous child the entire land. Animals had flocked after the two women with hopes of getting attention. Their wishes were granted graciously. Esther introduced their guest to everyone else which resulted in excitement and every individual showing Lunar something unique about their way of living. The animals, creatures, and plants even participated in this event. 'I never knew that something like this could be out there. It sure is heavenly." Lunar thought to herself, sighing dreamily. She had learned how to plant and grow food on her own in case she ever needed to. She also had learned to exist with and respect others as well as other life forms. It was nearing nighttime in this world which meant Lunar did not have a choice but to go back to her world. The thought made her tear up. She was no ready to leave this place yet.
"Do not cry Lunar. You are always welcome back here. You must wear this," Esther told the girl while handing her a ring, "and you will be welcome back here at any time. Just follow the yellow fairy lights until you reach the blue light at the top of the stairs. Remember that the portal to this world has a blue and purple mix to it. Tell your parents we said hello and that they are welcomed back too." Esther spoke softly to the young girl, remembering on the past and present memories. The older woman gently hugged Lunar before the fairies took her back to the archway.
Lunar waved to everyone before she followed the golden lights back to the portal. Once she exited, she was back on the stairway. She gave one last look before traveling back down the stairs, through the next portal, and down the second flight of stairs. The adventurous girl felt happier as she made her way back to her home. She noticed her parents were home and waiting inside. Lunar stepped inside and was embraced by her parents.
"So, how was it?" Her father asked, him and his wife smiling at her knowingly.
"It was amazing! Esther told me to tell you that everyone says hello and that you are welcomed back at any time." Lunar grinned at her parents.
Lunar would never forget the amazing night she had and the friends she made. The family decided that they would have to make future trips to the world of never-ending adventures.
