The Sight Of The Wise Man
Wren blinked blankly, what was starting? Did Sensei know River?
Thoughts cycled through her mind like a tornado "What does that mean, Sensei?" Wren asked cautiously. Sensei chuckled and responded "This was bound to happen, you see years ago I was visited by a one-horn. Or more commonly called, unicorn. The old mule told me that you, Wren, and you, River, would have an important mission." Sensei explained. Wren gasped in surprise, unicorns were prophets and gave important missions to those who are destined for them, this was important.
River cocked her head cluelessly, Wren looked at her in shock, where did she live?! Wren gave her an intense look "You do know what Sensei is talking about don't you? About unicorns?" Wren asked slowly, as if talking to a child. River looked at her sheepishly, she shook her head "No, I don't have anyone to teach me anything, I grew up in Natantis, which is pretty remote..." River trailed off. Wren nodded in understanding "I see, well unicorns are known to be able to predict the future with their horns, with the added factor being that if you cut off their horns they are completely doomed." Wren explained stoically.
Sensei nodded in approval "Now, let us get back to the matter at hand," Sensei began "The unicorn, Acar, told me that three children, one left after you, would have to travel to the ground to find something to save us." Sensei explained.
"What?! The ground?! That's impossible, and save us from what?!" River yelled, Wren would never raise her voice but she did agree with the general message, this was madness.
Sensei again made the swatting-a-fly-motion and dismissed her worries. He paused, his expression becoming solemn "There's possibility of a major plague outbreak, a virus called pestis. It takes hold of the victim, beginning with a high fever and coughing. Then the victim cannot move, and afterwards generally fall into a coma-like state. From there they can die any minute." Sensei explained grimly.
River nodded "I see..." she murmured. Wren nodded as well "Ok, so pestis, what started it?" She asked while placing a hand under her chin gingerly. Sensei shifted his gaze to the sky "Ah, well it started long ago, the ground has always been a dangerous place, ruled by shadow-creatures, which feed on fear. When our ancestors finally joined forces and combined the elements to create our islands and homes there were those who were against it..." Sensei trailed off for a moment.
River looked appalled "But they should've known it was their last chance!" she protested, Sensei looked at her "Yes, that is what they thought as well, however it is natural some oppose change... It happens."
Wren nodded in agreement, her eyes flashing with a need to hear the rest of the story "What happened next?" River looked at sensei again, her long aqua hair swaying with the motion.
"Yes, well, naturally the individuals who were opposed chose a leader; Lily," River paused, looking awed.
"Wait, so who was Lily?" River asked, Wren nodding along in agreement "A beautiful and powerful woman, she honestly believed she was doing the right thing. Though she never hurt anyone, she just gave an option for those who wanted to stay." Sensei told the girls.
"Woah~! That's awesome!" River cheered happily. Wren smiled slightly at her friend's eagerness. Sensei chuckled,
"I'm glad you think so River, seeing as she is your great-great grandmother."
