Ch.2 - Guests

Akæna~

I stalked through the undergrowth, silently. I heard a small croon and peeked through a bush to see a duck billed dinosaur eating. It was alone and young, a perfect catch.

I bent down farther and stayed down wind, I crept forward and pushed some leaves aside. I earned a look from the creature but it didn't seem to notice me. I moved forward and soon I was within striking distance, I winded my arm back and threw my spear. It soared into it's neck but it didn't go very far and the duck bill shook it off and ran. I sighed and retrieved my spear, I guess the pterodactyl will have to do.

I turned and marched back to them, they weren't inside the hut but they had set up something made of canvass. It looked like a standing triangle, I remembered seeing them before, people used them for camping... But I couldn't remember what they were so I just shrugged and turned to the lake. I grabbed a curved in rock and filled it with water, I knew this was salt water so I started my cleansing ritual. And soon I knew the water was cleaned, I took a sip to test it and I was right. So I went back to them and handed them the water.

"Must stay hidrated or you'll make a meal for others." I told them and the boy, Zenix grabbed it and sipped before passing it around.

"What was that thing that attacked us?" Asked Willie as he handed me the rock.

"A pterodactyl," I replied, dropping the rock and barrying it.

"Does that mean... Dinosaurs are on this island?" Mikado asked, his eyes wide.

"Yes, and this island is called... The Isle Of Extinction." I created the name in honor of Eve and I knew she would be proud.

"Really? I want to see a T-rex!" Mikado laughed, his blond hair swishing.

"Are any of you hungry?" I asked as I went to my hut to put away my weapons.

"Yes!"

"Yes!"

"Yeah."

"A little..."

"Yes please."

"Yeah..."

I nodded more to myself then to anyone else, I slipped inside then pulled my T-rex tooth dagger and started slicing chunks off the pterodactyl. I filled my hands with the meaty chunks and dumped them into a large metal bowl that the people had brought with them. Then I poured the rest of the water into it and grabbed a few berries from my dug out. I searched through the berries and picked out the red and purple ones then placed the rest back and put the red and purple ones into the bowl.

Then, after the people made a fire, I gently placed the metal bowl onto the flames and began to stir. The sun had already sunk below the horizon and now the moon began to rise which was why I was becoming frantic.

I sat back and put my hands together in prayer to Goddess Eve.

"What're you doing?" Zenix asked as he sat close to the fire.

"Praying." I glanced at him before grabbing the bowl with my red cloak and setting it in the sand. "Dinners ready."

All six of the people gathered around and are their fill and I got the left over inch of it. I sighed and stood, stretching.

"Why did you make dinner so late?" Willie asked and laid back, patting his belly.

"Because predators hate the moon at highest. Now we are safe," I pointed up at the moon, my nervousness evaporating.

"Really?" Mikado seemed really interested about dinosaurs.

"Yes, now rest. I will be in my hut if you would have need of me." I informed them as I cleaned up and went into my home. I cut the rest of the pterodactyl and put the chunks into the dug out before collapsing onto my bed and falling asleep.

----------|----{~Next Day~}----|----------

I awoke to the smell of a fire, my heart thudded in my chest as I leapt out of bed and out the door... To see the two boys sitting around a fire as the men slept. I sighed in relief and sat across from them.

"Hey Akæna, how old are you?" Mikado asked as Zenix stared at me intently.

"Well... I came here when I was five or six so... One... Two... I should be thirteen or fourteen. Why?" I answered with a question of my own.

"We were trying to bet on how old you were. Zenix won," Mikado smiled and handed Zenix a piece of green paper.

Zenix grinned and shoved the paper into his pocket and looked at us proudly. "Could you show us around?"

"Oh, yeah, sure. But stay close," I warned them of the dangers out there and yet they still wanted to go so I grabbed my spear and we headed out.

We went through the line of trees to get to the over hang and we saw the last tricerotopses leaving. My eyes went wide when a wounded tricerotops struggled to remain with the herd. I knew it would die but it still made me hope that it would live.

"We have to help it!" Zenix said with Mikado nodding.

"Keep it down!" I whispered, tugging both of their hair down. "A predator can smell the blood, if we help it then we're putting ourselves up for breakfast."

"But it's going to die!" Mikado insisted, he crossed his arms stubbornly.

"Yeah, we need to help it." Zenix agreed, he turned and began slipping down the ridge, Mikado following.

I sighed in frustration, no wonder there's no dinosaurs on the mainland; they'd grow to fat to move! With one more sigh I followed the stupid boys and made it last to the field. I kept on my toes as I searched the place for any danger, like a deer grazing.

After I reached the tricerotops Mikado and Zenix got enough gut to check the poor creature.

"It's leg is shredded..." Mikado informed us of it's injury.

"And it's side has been torn..." Zenix added in slight sadness.

"Grr! Move aside!" I pushed them away and knelt down to it's leg. I knew it was on the brink of death and that I had meet minutes to work. I pulled off my crimson cloak and wrapped it around the tricerotops' leg, slowing- if not stopping the bleeding. Then I ripped part of my sleeve off and dabbed it in the creature's side wound. I felt the sharp point of a claw and pulled it out, blood rushed and sprayed my face in scarlet.

"Take this," I handed them the claw, I would inspect it later. I felt a warm hand brush mine and I realized it was Mikado's.

I nodded, more to myself, and pressed my hands against it's wound, blood seeped around my hands and ran down my arms. My face twisted as I pressed harder and, within a minute, the bleeding had slowed until it stopped completely. I pulled away and grabbed my cloak to inspect it's leg, it wasn't as bad as I had previously thought. Just a few gashes, it should be fine.

I sighed in relief, "it should be fine now..." I fell backwards in exhaustion and closed my eyes for a minute or two. I waited 'til my breath became even before I reopened my eyes to see both boys watching me. Ugh! Stupid boys! Run! I climbed to my feet as I felt the ground shake from a giant weight landing on it. I grabbed my cloak and wrapped it around my shoulders before grabbing my spear and running.

Hopefully the boys were following.
