Eren and I were more than ready to jump Annie in her titan state, but Mikasa grabbed us both by the back of our jackets and roughly pulled us downward into the tunnel. Armin ran behind us, panting as he tried to keep up with our speed.
"Why are we coming down here? She's going to wreck the city!" I yelled over the sound of our footsteps. Eren looked at Mikasa, waiting for her response.
"Even if you can change into giants and punch through titans, you need your gear just in case, you never know when it might save your life." She huffed, stopping just short of a long sheet draped over something. She bent and flung it away, revealing four 3D maneuver gears. We were quick to attach them on quickly, wrapping the parts into our belts and latching them on, letting the box-like sword holders hang by either side of our hips. We backed off quickly as a large skinless hand snuck into the entrance and felt around.
"She's trying to grab us, let's get out through the other way!" Mikasa hollered. We ran without a second thought, getting far away from the hand. Two survey members ran towards us from the other side of the tunnel with confused faces, and stopped at the sight of us.
"Whats going on?!" One of them shouted.
"You need to get out now! There's a titan outside!" Armin yelled. They didn't even have time to react. A giant foot came crashing down on them hard, making rubble topple down over us. Armin and I screamed, putting our arms over our head for protection.
"Get away from the hole!" Mikasa screeched, stumbling in the fallen debris. I watched as the foot retreated, and ran after the three, towards the middle of the tunnel. We stood on the side of the wall. It was the safest place to be at the moment, to avoid getting crushed out of nowhere.
"How can she do that...she's after Eren right? She could have crushed him." Armin whispered. Another foot came crashing down on our right. It was close.
"She's stomping around in hopes of not killing Eren, she's desperate." Mikasa murmured. I understood why Levi chose not to capture her when I had the chance in the expedition now. Erwin wasn't counting on capturing Annie down in the tunnels, because Hanji and the rest weren't down there. He was counting on her turning here inside the walls to try one last time to get Eren. It was perfect because she was trapped, there was no where to go in here, whilst she could wake up any moment outside the walls and turn again to escape. He wanted her alive after all, so getting her in her titan form was easier...still. It was a dangerous decision, there were people here. What the hell was Erwin thinking? Every decision he made involved getting people killed. He risked his team members lives during the mission, and right now he was risking every citizen in wall sina. How could Levi agree to that? I was mad...I didn't want to fight the titan here of all places, but she was wrecking everything anyway. I had to.
"We don't have a choice, we have to fight." Eren spoke to me with heated eyes, as if reading my mind. He pulled Mikasa and Armin close to him. "come here, I will protect you." His hand clenched and rose to his mouth, he bit down hard, blood gushed from the self-inflicted wound in small trails. We waited for the transformation to come in silence, watching his body in anticipation. Nothing was happening...He stared at his hand impatiently.
"W-why now?! Why is it not working?!" He shouted angrily. He bit down again, harder this time. His knees buckled and he fell on them as he clutched his hand in pain and screamed in agony, making his voice echo across the debris filled tunnel. "Dammit! It hurts! Why can't I transform?! Now of all times!" He pounded the floor with his bloody hand in desperation.
"Stop doing that! You'll make it worse!" I scolded and bent to his level, holding his hand in mine as I pumped healing chakra into it.
"Could it be that you can't think of a goal?" Armin whispered. Eren shook his head stubbornly.
"No! I have a goal, defeat Annie and capture her, I don't know why this is happening." He barked. Mikasa bent to her knees to look at him in the eye. Her stare was menacing.
"Could it be that you don't want to have a goal? Because you refuse to believe that the spy is Annie." She muttered in a very dark tone, eyes wide.
"No...that's not it..." Eren whispered. I stared at him, trying to read his eyes. He was shaking, no doubt realizing Mikasa's words and trying to comprehend them.
"Shut up! What happened between you and Annie? Did something happen between you two that I should know about? That bitch turned into the female titan that killed the captains team right in front of your eyes, so why are you being a prissy little ignorant kid? Why do you hesitate to fight?" Mikasa made the scariest faces when she was angry... She looked like she was about to stab Eren to death without mercy. Eren didn't reply, he stared at my glowing chakra as I healed.
"If you don't want to fight, that's fine, people are counting on you, not knowing your down here crying like a brat over how the spy turned out to be Annie, a weakling who can't fight against someone who has betrayed us does not deserve the wings of freedom, thanks for letting us down, Levi was right, Sakura is more competent than you." I cringed. She was being a little bit too harsh, but they were words Eren needed to hear nonetheless. Annie was bad news, he had to get over it, but I understood his situation. When Sasuke betrayed the village, only Naruto and I still hoped he would return, still held on to the belief he would come back. We refused to fight him like the rest of konoha wanted to do. I knew what it felt like to be betrayed, Eren was just experiencing it. In his own way, he was crying in confusion, asking why, trying to cope and understand.
"Don't worry...you're not alone." I whispered to him, squeezing his hand. Mikasa stood up and took out her swords. Another foot came crashing down to our left, causing the walls to shake. We were running out of space. Soon she would target this spot too.
"Come on Armin, Sakura, it's up to us to take it down, Sakura, you can transform right? Armin and I will distract her from here and lead her to an open space, you can handle her from there, we will support you as best we can." Mikasa spoke to me quickly. I nodded and stood up as well. Armin took out his own swords.
"Right! I will go to the left, Mikasa you go to the right, she would have to chase one of us down." He breathed. He was taking deep breaths nervously. It was understandable. Mikasa nodded and ran towards the ruined entrance while Armin ran towards the hole up above that the titans foot created.
"Wait! Mikasa! How can you fight her?!" Eren shouted, tears forming in his ocean blue eyes. "How?! S-she's not just anybody...she's Annie...she's our comrade...how can you just accept that she's our enemy?" He trailed off hopelessly.
Mikasa stopped and stood still with her back to us, she turned around slowly, onyx eyes bore into light ocean blue. "Because if I don't fight, I will die. Eren... the world is cruel." With that, she turned back and continued running. Eren looked down at his hands with a dazed expression. I gripped his shoulder tightly.
"We have to hurry, staying here and being sad about it isn't going to help." I said, trying to get through to him. He shuddered and buried his face in his hands.
"I know...I know." He whispered. I smiled and rubbed his back. It was time for us to go out too, but seeing as Eren was having a mental breakdown, I would have to turn first. I stared at the palm of my hand, scanning the pale flesh. 'I will defeat the titan, that is my goal' I thought, concentrating on my desire. I brought my fist to my mouth, and felt the walls shake. The ceiling above us caved in as the titans foot came smashing through, crushing Eren. I screamed as the impact made my body fly against the beaten wall, knocking the air out of my lungs, pieces of fallen brick hit me, making me gasp in pain.
"Eren!" I screamed, staring at the retreating foot. I got up and limped towards the fallen slabs of heavy concrete and wood. A hand was visible through the debris and I summoned chakra to lift the heavy slabs that covered his body. He lay there, on his back with closed eyes. A piece of plankwood had impaled itself into his chest, causing blood to spread across his shirt. "Eren!" I lifted off some more debris and clutched his arm, trying to wake him. He wouldn't, he was unconscious.
"Eren! What happened?!" Armin landed beside me with his gear. Baby blue eyes stared at his friend with immense worry. I bit my lip to keep from stuttering.
"She stepped on him, I-I don't want to move his body, that stick might inflict more injuries than he already has." I stammered. Armin bent down to the sleeping boys body. He gripped his hand tightly.
"Wake up Eren! to win...you have to sacrifice what you have...I bet Annie can do that, so why can't you?" He cried out. He shook the boy in an attempt to get a response. He got none.
"What the hell happened?! Why is that titan in here?!" Jeans voice startled me. I turned to him with wide eyes. He stared at Eren, mouth agape. "Is he okay?" He whispered. I bent and felt for Eren's neck, I could faintly feel his heartbeat pulse.
"He's alive, but not okay, I can't tend to him and fight at the same time." I spoke out. I had to do too many things at once now, I was getting stressed out.
"Leave Eren to me, I can make him snap out of his sleep, i've done it before, you two go on ahead and take down Annie." Armin stated confidently. I was surprised at this, the shy and introverted Armin was taking charge. I admired his quick transformation.
"Right, lets go Sakura, that giant freak needs a bitch-slap." Jean howled. He waited for me to respond. I nodded and took one last look at Eren. He would be alright...he could regenerate. I worried for him but it would get me nowhere.
"Yes! Lets go! good luck Armin!" I shouted at the blonde before making my way towards Jean. We ran up the ruined slope of cracked bricks and 2x2's. Annie was running towards a field of trees, chasing Mikasa while people ran in panic. I could see members of the police, the people with a horse logo on their backs, staring at the titan from the roofs as Jean and I used our gear to levitate.
"Yeah...just stay there and watch like cowards...I wanted to be like them, now I just don't want people to look at me like i'm looking at them." Jean muttered. He cursed and stopped levitating, dropping on his feet to pant. I stopped too and waited for him.
"Whats wrong?" I asked, unsure of what he was doing. He shook his head.
"I don't know, my gear is hard to use, and why the hell is it so hard to press the freakin handle?!" He gripped his blade and pressed the button to release it but it wouldn't. I frowned and walked over to him to inspect it. I took the handle from him and pressed, struggling. "It's been like that ever since Annie offered to clean it for me..."
"You're right, it is hard to press the handle, here, take mine." I unlatched the backside from my belt and took off the attached handles.
"W-wait, what about you?" He asked as I took off the gear completely. If Annie tampered with her gear to swap it with Marco's, then she would also tamper with Jeans gear to render him useless in battle. This was a bitch move, made by a scheming bastard...I would be more than angry to find my gear tampered with and almost dying because of it.
"I don't really need it, I'll turn and take you to Mikasa, it's better to be with another than to be alone, especially with Annie." I said.
He gulped. "Alright..."
I waited patiently while he strapped my gear on his own body. His fingers worked fast. As soon as he was finished, I gave him a curt nod, telling him it was time.
"Don't you dare lose yourself and forget i'm your friend in your titan state Dammit! Don't you dare try to eat me! You got that?!" He huffed nervously. "I'm trusting you to hold me and not crush me with your hand with my life!"
"I know, you can trust me." I stated confidently. I actually had no idea if I wouldn't go off on the survey corps members, but I didn't lose control the first time I turned, and that gave me courage. "Get ready."
He nodded and stepped back as I lifted my hand to my mouth. I bit into my thumb and watched my blood ooze from it. I felt it, the quaking in my chest, the shaking in my legs, and the vibrations in my heart. I was engulfed in red lightning, my vision went red as floated and gave in to the feeling of oppressment. I was rising...high into the air and my physical strain left with my real body. My larger body took over of all emotion and feeling the smaller one had. I no longer saw through the eyes of a human, but through the eyes of a titan. The world around me was no longer big, but small. I closed my eyes slowly, adjusting to the sudden increase of weight and height. Then I opened them and looked down at Jean, who was holding his sword above himself protectively with nervous, untrusting eyes. He looked like and ant at that moment, so tiny he could stand on my fingertip. That's right, I was going to take him to Mikasa. I bent slowly, terrified of accidentally toppling over him and squashing him like a bug. My arms lowered so that my palm was face-up on the floor next to him. He stared at it slowly, before looking back into my eyes.
"you can understand me right? I'm trusting you..." He muttered as he slowly crept into my hand. I rose up, turned the way the titan was running, and sprinted ahead at full speed. Jean staggered in my palm, which was close to my mid-torso to avoid having him fall back. He bent down and held on to my finger with one hand while shielding his eyes from the sun with the other. Wind hit us both as I ran past screaming people and following survey corps members. I could see Mikasa struggling with the blonde titan up ahead. Her body kept being thrown off in the wind as the titan kicked at her. Annie was using the same trick she used on me to get Mikasa off her back. Still, Mikasa held her ground, she picked herself up and slashed at the titans heels, making it fall on it's knees, then moved in to slash her neck, only to be blocked by the titans hand. Mikasa staggered, jumped back to gain some distance from the titan, and used her gear to gain speed in the air. She moved under Annie as the blonde picked herself up and kicked at the air behind Mikasa. I could faintly hear the dark haired girls small scream of surprise as she was thrown off balance and hit the pavement hard, rolling along the floor with such force that her swords strings snapped, making them fly off. She lay on the floor, weaponless and unconscious.
"Mikasa!" Jean shouted with worry lacing his voice. I felt dread rise up as Annie stood over Mikasa. I roared so loud Jean had to cover his ears. The blonde titan turned towards my running form and abandoned Mikasa, choosing instead to make a run for it. I ran faster, getting closer to the fallen girl on the floor. "Let me off here, go after the titan!" Jean shouted over the sound of my loud footsteps. I couldn't afford to stop so I gently threw Jean towards Mikasa as I ran past her. He caught himself in mid-air and used his gear to lower himself to Mikasa, picking her up by the shoulders and dragging her to the side of the street. I continued onward towards Annie, pumping as much chakra in my large fist as I could. Because this wasn't my real body, it was difficult, but possible nonetheless. I could feel the chakra gathering, strengthening my hand. Annie was running towards the open space Mikasa was trying to lure her into. It was perfect, I didn't have to worry about punching her and sending her body into a house with people in it. If I punched her from behind, she would land in that deserted area, I had to be quick and do it now. I picked up speed and got nearer to her, her hair swayed as she ran, the ground shook as her steps pounded on the floor. She didn't bother to look back to see how close I was because I was sure she could feel my own steps. I threw my arm back to land a blow as I got close enough to her and braced myself to hit her back with everything I had as green chakra swirled around my fist. Without warning, she swiftly turned and threw a punch towards my face, but I was faster. I ducked and landed my blow into her stomach. The impact was so strong my arm vibrated and tensed as Annie's eyes bulged. My knees shook and Annie flew like a rocket, literally, making nearby windows rattle and crack. She landed by the open space of trees so hard that the whole ground shook, even from where I was standing, which was quite a distance. She didn't get up, her body lay on the floor in a steamy heap. Did I kill her?
I ran towards her again, pumping some more chakra in my fist. The blonde titan twitched and slowly sat up upon hearing my footsteps. She had a disgustingly deep dent in her stomach and she looked too dazed to know what was going on. Even so, I didn't let myself feel pity, that would only get me killed. I stood over her and with a roar, brought my fist down on her chest. Her body slammed deeper into the earth and she convulsed, then lay limp. I took the moment to sit on top of her and grab her head with both of my hands. I pulled hard, hearing a sickening snap as her head came off. I threw it to the side to inspect the neck of the torso and caught a glimpse of the blonde titan shifter attached to the meat. Her eyes were closed, as if sleeping. The blow must have knocked her out in her real form as well. I pulled her out with two fingers and engulfed her in my hand. Her titan body began to dissolve under me so I stood up from the blackening corpse and walked back towards the way which I came from with the girl in hand. It was easy, she didn't put up much of a fight. But then again, my blow was powerful. If I had been better prepared during the mission, I could have taken her down easier. I walked calmly past the buildings as people scattered in fear, watching me from down below. I walked as slow as possible to avoid stepping on anyone dumb enough to not get out of the way. I could feel Annie in my hand and I had the powerful urge to squeeze her like she squeezed so many people in our mission. However, Erwin wanted her alive, no doubt wanting information from her. I just hoped she would get to explain why she had to go to such lengths just to get Eren. I saw the fallen building that Eren rested at a few blocks away and made my way there. I had to check if he was okay.
I walked carefully, watching a few police people scurry away as I took slow strides towards Eren, but stopped abrubtly when I heard someone shout out of nowhere. Explosions, once again, startled me as wires shot out, stabbing through my body. I fell and saw people jump out of the roofs to roll a net over me. I was rendered immobile. I couldn't help but feel confusion in the midst of all this. Why were they attacking me? I was on their side! Once the smoke cleared, I saw Hanji walk towards my face and watched as her mouth dropped in horror.
"Noooo! Idiots! You caught the wrong one!" She shouted hysterically. Everyone stared into my confused wide eyes and cursed under their breaths. Erwin ran towards my face quickly.
"Sorry about that, where is she?" He asked, waving at the people above to set me free. I moved my arm once I felt the wires being pulled off of me and held my fist in front of the head commander. I uncurled my fingers to reveal the sleeping blonde. He nodded.
"Good work." He stated as he walked towards her with Hanji. They inspected her before approaching her limp form. Many of the other soldiers stood by to watch. Erwin bent and grabbed hold of Annies shoulders and gasped. She got up with the speed of Rock Lee in his gate openings, and threw herself at Erwin. Hanji staggered back in surprise, raising her swords defensively. I felt my stomach turn as I saw blood spread against Erwins chest as Annie straddled him while standing, he stared down at her with shocked eyes. She had slashed at his chest with a knife. Hanji screamed something incoherent and many of the people around me jumped the blonde titan shifter. She ran past them into a dark alley as they chased after her. I tore myself off the net covering me and sat up quickly, watching Hanji run towards Erwin.
"Erwin!" She hollered, helping him sit down. He shakily took out a roll of grey duct tape and wrapped it around the ugly wound.
"I'm fine..." He whispered. "I was just taken off guard..."
My fault...it was my fault. I should have known if she was awake. I couldn't help but feel guilt. My hand reached out towards his wounded body, I could heal him quickly and find Annie afterwards. "Don't." He stopped me with a stern gaze. "You'll have plenty of time for that later, right now Annie is out there, escaping, go after her, that's an order." I struggled to leave. He was hurt...and I wanted to help, but he was right. Annie was the bigger problem, no pun intended. Hanji nodded at me as I got up and marched towards the way she ran, stepping over dead soldiers on the way. She was killing them with no problem...just like she killed Levi's team. I clenched my teeth in anger as I searched the ground frantically. Where the hell was she? That little bastard was hiding well...
I caught a glimpse of a yellow flash from the corner of my eye and I turned sharply. There, she was running towards the wall. She was trying to escape. I growled as I chased her with an outstretched hand. She pulled back and used a gear she had most likely taken from a fallen soldier to latch on to my arm. I stopped, and pressed my hand to the back of my neck, a trick I borrowed from her. She flew back as I swapped at her, trying to slam my hand into her body. She hovered in mid-air behind me, and was engulfed in red lightning. Crap! She was turning again! The sky gave a crimson glow as air violently swished around me. Some of the people below us screamed and scattered. I tried to turn my body around to face her and gain some distance, but it was too late. Her titan body was already pressed to my back, her arms latched around my neck in a firm grip as she tried to choke me. I struggled in her grasp and threw myself back, it was the only thing I could think of in this situation. We went down hard, crashing against a fountain and knick-knack stands. I sat up as quickly as possible once her arms flew off and I moved to stomp on her chest. She dodged, rolling to the side quickly and kicking my feet under me. I fell hard, making the earth shake with the massive weight. It was too cramped in here, the houses were making the fighting difficult and hard to move around. I cringed as she crawled on top of me and straddled my torso. Her hand pressed hard against my face, blue eyes bore into grassy green. She was going to smash my face into pulp by sheer weight alone. My mouth opened as I screeched, panicking for a split second. If she tore me out of my titan body, she would surely kill my real one. I clutched her neck with both my hands and squeezed, making her clench her teeth and wheeze slowly. It was a battle of endurance now, the winner would be the one who could hold out against the pressing for longer. I summoned chakra, squeezing as hard as I could. Her eyes bulged. She was losing.
A sudden roar of thunder startled me. Loud foot steps made large quakes as a mighty roar erupted into the sky. A giant fist connected with Annie's face and she was thrown off of me, staggering and landing on top of a church. I looked up to see Eren's titan form standing over me. His onyx eyes stared at Annie's form as she sat up slowly. The building she landed on was totally destroyed and the few surviving people ran from under her in fear, screaming at the sight of the blonde titan above them. I got up as well and stood next to Eren. She was at a huge disadvantage now, it was two against one. She had no chance and she knew it. Eren snarled and hurled himself at her. She got out of the way quickly and ran opposite of us, towards the wall. She was attempting to escape again. Well she wouldn't. Eren and I ran after her, stomping on the floor with such force the windows rattled. my fist glowed with green chakra as I pumped up for a punch. She looked back quickly and picked up speed, determined to avoid fighting us. I was a little bit faster than Eren so I was closer to the fleeing titan. I lunged, pounding hard on her back and sending her flying like a rocket yet again. She skidded to a halt a few feet away from us with her face on the ground. She was down, now was our chance. We ran faster to jump her. Hanji, Mike, and Levi appeared before us on their gears from the sidelines, surprising me.
"Good work! Remember, don't kill her! Just capture her!" Hanji yelled over the sound of the beating wind. We couldn't talk so we kept going. Annie was getting up slowly, she just wouldn't give up. I slowed down so Eren could get to her first. Many members of the Survey corps were following us now, using their gear with ease to keep up with our running. Eren pounced on Annie, smashing his fist against her face. She stumbled but held her ground. With a fierce cry, she crystalized the front of her lower leg and kicked it into Erens jaw, pressing his body against a building. He made a gagging sound but didn't give up. He bit into the crystal and scraped his mouth across her entire front leg, slamming his arm into her chest in the process. She didn't falter, with rage, she pounded on his head with a crystalized hand repeatedly, causing his entire body to jolt with each impact. She screamed with each pound as well. Annie had enough, we pushed her to her limits...
I gabbed hold of her neck and proceeded to crush it. She turned and slammed a crystallized arm across my head, knocking me out and making me fall flat on my back. She left Eren and I on the floor and continued running towards the wall with long strides. Steam rose from my head as I lay there, completely disoriented. I could see Eren sitting in his titan form with a steamy mutilated jaw, his whole tongue was hanging out. Gross...I felt movement creep along my chest as I closed my eyes and concentrated on healing my head. I could tell there was a hole there, I could feel the icy wind touching the nasty wound. Annie was smarter than she seemed, and fought better when she was cornered. So she was giving up on Eren...escaping seemed more important to her now...
"Hey, get up! She's getting away, did that blow really do that much damage?" My eyes shot open at Levi's voice. I sat up and looked down to see him standing on my lower stomach. I frowned, suddenly self concsious of my skinless naked form, parts of my body still had skin and bone. I didn't have anything to show...and neither did Eren, he was completely blank despite having the most skin out of the three of us, but I was still uncomfortable anyway. It was silly to be feeling this way at this time nevertheless, I had to pay attention. At that moment, Eren suddenly stood up, his eyes were no longer a dark onyx, but a deep crimson. His body shook as red lined it. I couldn't believe it...he was morphing?! His jaw suddenly regenerated and sharp teeth took place instead of his normal flat ones. He looked...scarey. He roared loudly, red lines of hot liquid trailed down his body as he let out all his rage, hair wild and fists clenched. He ran towards me at all threes, since he was missing a leg. I grabbed Levi in a swift motion and scrambled up to get out of Erens way. He was going to trample me if I didn't. Did he even recognize me? Well I wasn't his target so I guess it didn't matter.
I watched as Eren's screaming form raced towards Annie so quickly he looked like a large dog instead of a titan. My fist unclenched to let Levi get some air and watch as well. He was on his knees, staring ahead in confusion. I saw Erwin fly towards us in his gear from a few houses away with Hanji in tow. His shirt was slashed from the cut Annie gave him. I could make out the duct tape stuck to his chest. It was a smart move, it reduced the bleeding by a lot. They both landed on my outstretched hand next to Levi gracefully once they got close.
"What's going on with Eren?" Erwin asked Levi calmly, gazing at the outraged titan. Hanji wasn't excited for once, she stared at Eren in complete silence.
"I don't know, he just got like that all of a sudden, he most likely lost control again, but his target seems to be Annie, that idiot is going to kill her." Levi muttered under his breath. "He's a total novice, and unreliable, but we can let him take her down in his rampage, I'll cut him out before he can do any real damage."
Erwin nodded. "Alright, take us to them, but keep your distance." He spoke out to me. I began jogging in a steady space with the trio. I could faintly see the other teams standing on the roofs of the houses, staring at Eren tackle Annie to the ground. They were by the wall now, so close they could touch it. I ran faster and halted by the other members. Sasha and Connie stood next to Reiner and Bertholdt, who were both in a trance watching the scene before them. Eren was grabbing Annie's face in a vicegrip and he pulled it back violently while sitting on top of her back. She gave a piercing scream as she kicked him off, sending him flying. I rose my hand over my outstretched one in an attempt to shield the trio from the sudden blast of wind the titans brawl was causing. I squinted to clear my vision from the gust.
"She's climbing!" Armin shouted, while hopping onto my shoulder with his gear. So I was a giant boat for everyone to ride now? I stared at the wall. Annie was indeed climbing using her crystalized fingers to stab them into the concrete and pull herself up. Everyone around me gasped in horror at the sight of the cracks forming along the surface.
"The wall!" Sasha shouted. Annie was fast, she would surely escape in that pace. Eren got up, however, and ran to her. He reached up to grab hold of her foot with one hand and hung there, refusing to let go.
"Can he bring her down?" Hanji murmured, watching the scene. Annie looked down and furiously kicked at him, her foot colliding with his face. He went down, landing hard on his back. It didn't work after all... Mikasa hopped onto my shoulder next to Armin.
"Sakura! Can you get close enough to her so that I can reach above her head with the gear?" I understood what she meant. Gently letting off the others in my palm into a nearby roof, I turned to Erwin and Levi. They nodded.
"Go." Erwin instructed. Hanji stood watching Eren with hopeful eyes, willing him to get up. He showed no signs of doing so however. Armin hopped off as I ran under the climbing titan. The wall loomed over us as I stood directly beside it. The cracks were spreading, she was destroying it in her haste to escape.
"That's enough!" Mikasa shouted to me. Because of the open space, it was difficult to use the gear, but with the wall up close, Mikasa used it to travel up towards Annie. She flew towards the blonde with excellent speed, twirling in the air and moving in close to slash at her bare, uncrystallized fingers. Annie had no way to defend herself, she had her hands occupied. Her fingers snapped with each slice Mikasa gave and she fell. It was dramatic, as if in slow motion. Annie was falling from the wall with outstretched arms in the afternoon sun. Mikasa lowered herself into Annies nose and stared into the blondes eyes.
"Annie...fall." She muttered slowly. Mikasa finally got what she wanted, to get revenge against the blonde titan for attempting to take Eren. She pulled herself upwards as the titan finally landed on her back. Eren got up and jumped her as soon as he got the opportunity, straddling her on the floor and punching her face. She convulsed under him, unable to stand or fight back anymore. She was tired. I watched as Eren roared in rage, pounding uncontrollably. He was losing his mind...was he the same Eren I knew? People scattered as he tore Annie's head off and flung it aside with strength, causing waves of air to swirl and the ground to shake, not even bothering to check if it would land on someone. What the hell was wrong with him...
He took the headless torso below him by the shoulders and searched for the girl inside the neck. I caught a glimpse of her from where I was standing. Annie was...crying? Yes, she had tears in her eyes...It made me rethink my opinion of her entirely. Annie...what was her motive for doing all of this? Was she truly a bad person? Eren opened his shark-like mouth and brought the torso closer. He was going to eat her, but something odd was happening, her body was being engulfed in crystal, and it was affecting Erens hands as he held her. I instantly ran to him and wrapped my arms around his shoulders to stop him. He snarled and elbowed me hard. I cringed but held on. This wasn't Eren, it was as if the titan had a mind of it's own. He lost all interest in Annie and jumped on me, slamming me on the ground. He bit into my neck, making blood gush from the wound. My mouth flew open in a silent gasp as I tried to push him off.
"No Eren! Stop!" I could hear Hanji screaming at the top of her lungs. He wasn't listening, he was tearing away at my flesh with his mouth in a frenzy. I felt a swish of air run past my face as a figure swept past me and flew behind Eren. The titan above me went limp as the brown haired boy was pulled out with a slash of a sword. Levi...He stood on top of the titans back neck, holding Eren like a rag doll.
"Don't attack one of your own idiot." He scolded him before hopping off to put the boy down on the ground. Armin ran to his aid, bending down to loom over his unconscious friend. I pushed the hot, steamy, decomposing corpse that used to be Eren off of me and I sat up. People were no longer at a distance anymore, I noticed everyone rushed towards the spot where Annie lay. Her titan form was also dissolving into nothingness. I watched as Levi hooked his wires into my shoulder to travel up towards the back of my neck. It was time, he was going to cut me out next. I lowered my head and let my pink locks fall to the front to give him better access as I felt his feet land softly. He slashed across my flesh and my eyesight went dark as I was disconnected from my titan body. Warm hands held me by my arms, pulling me out slowly. My mind was fuzzy, and my body felt numb. It was as if I forgot how to move and walk. The sudden blast of cold air was what made me fully awaken. My eyes shot open and I blinked several times, trying to clear my blurry vision. Levi held me upright, then slid an arm under my legs to carry me. I gave a small gasp as I was swept off my feet, I could feel his other arm around my back, using it to hold my weight. He hopped off my previous body, making me wrap my arms around his neck to steady myself. The air swirled around us gracefully, I stared up at the dark haired mans face as we flew down. My heart pounded with each second, my face felt heat rise up. Time moved in slow motion as Levi levitated downwards, his dark silky hair caressed his face as the sun formed a sort of halo around his head. I almost heard holy music in the background...
My trance was broken when he landed beside Eren and set me down carefully.
"Do you feel alright?" Levi asked in a husky voice. I swallowed, trying to clear my dry throat.
"I-I'm fine, just kind of tired." I muttered quietly. I looked down at my body quickly to see if I had torn clothes again, and was relieved to find them intact. I smoothed out my brown jacket and looked up at Levi. His eyes bore into mine, I could see tiny speckles of cerulean blue in the deep grey of his hues. So they were timberwolf, not blue like I had thought...It was a bizarre but pretty combination of colors and it went well with his bedroom eye feature, they were almost like kakashi's. Heart still pounding, I averted my eyes from his exotic orbs to gaze at my decomposing titan body. Her vibrant green eyes were half lidded with long lashes decorating her lids. Unlike Eren's mouth, her mouth was kind of like Annie's, with plump red lips, only she had two oval-like holes on either side of her cheek, showing her flat teeth under high pale cheekbones as pink hair fell over her face. My titan form had a certain beauty to it.
"Eren is waking up!" Armin exclaimed happily, making me turn my attention to the boy in the midst of the running crowd. He stood up slowly, eyeing Levi and I with a dazed expression.
"Annie? W-what happened to Annie?" He asked slowly. I looked at Levi as he walked off towards the crowd that gathered to the spot where Annie lay. Eren, Armin, and I followed silently but quickly, eager to see what the commotion was about.
"She's unconscious." Levi spoke quickly, walking just as fast to see what lay beyond the horde of people. Eren took shaky strides, no doubt still feeling dizzy from the transformation. I was feeling a bit off too, but I didn't falter. I wanted to see the blonde girl that was so determined to climb over the wall. Levi and Armin got to the front first, which was understandable considering they weren't pulled out of a titan like Eren and I were. I had a hard time walking straight. Even so, we got past the crowd of people and saw Jean, Erwin, and Hanji standing over a large blue crystal laying on the concrete floor. Jean was pounding on the crystal with his sword while shouting loudly.
"So that's it?! You're just gonna hide there forever?! Coward! Get out and explain yourself Annie! Annie!" His swords broke in half with the pressure. He cursed under his breath, clearly upset. "Dammit! What kind of crystal is this?!"
"Stop that, it's not going to work, you'll only end up hurting yourself." Levi spoke as he held Jeans wrist firmly. Jean's lip curled up in a silent cry as he fell to his knees. Eren and I got closer, inspecting the crystal that was receiving so much attention. Annie was indeed captured inside it. Her lithe form was suspended inside the crystal as if she was frozen in ice. Her pale porcelain skin was vibrant, giving her a doll-like glow. I stared at her face, she looked so serene, at peace. Whatever Annie was thinking in her last moments of consciousness, it must have been a very dear memory...
"Annie..." Eren whispered beside me, he gazed at the blonde girl with a look of hurt. He was still feeling the sting of betrayal.
"What do we do now? We were supposed to get information out of her, but we failed...again" Hanji said out loud, resting a hand on the surface of the crystal.
"We bring her underground. She will be held there until she decides to come out, she'll have too, lest she starves or dehydrates." Erwin responded with an unhappy gaze.
"So we ended up not accomplishing anything...the court will make sure we hear the wrath of the king." Levi drawled nonchalantly.
"We didn't lose entirely, we successfully caught one of the spy's that infiltrated the walls five years ago, for the first time in decades, humanity has won against the titans." Erwin's words were eloquent, smooth. He was perfect when it came to speaking.
"One of the spy's?"Jean spoke out in a confused tone. He stared up at Erwin from his perch on the ground.
Erwin nodded."There are two more spy's hiding among us, the armored titan and the colossal titan, we will bring them out of hiding and annihilate them."
Several people gasped and muttered amongst themselves, gazing at others fearfully. My eyes swept across the crowd...Christa, Ymir, Connie, Sasha, Bertholdt, Reiner, Jean...two of them were spy's, but who was it? There was really no real way to tell. My eyes lingered on Sasha's face for a while. She wore an expression of dread. Her eye's were unnaturally wide and her mouth was carved down in a frown. She stared above me at the air with complete horror. I frowned, confused at her sudden paralyzing gaze and turned back to look at whatever she was staring at. My eyes swept the sky. Nothing...there were only birds flying around in the red-orange sun. I continued searching the sky...until I saw it. A large slab of concrete had fallen from the wall, revealing half the face of a skinless titan. Now MY face was contorted in confusion and dread. A titan...in the wall? There was a titan in the wall?! I could see Mikasa hanging by her gear across from it. Was she staring at it as well? Sasha's high pitched scream erupted into the air. She was pointing at the face shakily. Many people joined her in her screaming once they followed the spot to where she was pointing at.
"What the hell is that?! A titan?" Hanji stammered loudly, gazing at the seemingly half asleep titan.
"Mikasa get away from there!" Eren shouted at the frozen girl beside the giant. She turned her head back to us and complied, using her gear to let herself fall gently, landing on the ground.
"Erwin! Levi! What is this?! How is there a titan in the wall?!" Hanji was throwing a fit, she stared at the head commander and captain for a reply. Levi stayed silent, staring at the face with wide eyes.
Erwin did the same, his blue hues were wide with surprise and shock. "I don't know..." He muttered slowly.
"Stooooop! Don't let light shine on that titan! Cover the hole! Quickly!" A running priest shouted at us loudly, his fragile form stumbled as he panted. It was the same priest from the trial, the one that was so set on having Eren and I killed.
Hanji frowned at him but obeyed his plea. "You heard him! Don't let sunlight touch that titan! Patch the hole up!" She shouted at the stunned soldiers.
"Y-yes!" They shouted while scattering to gain the necessary materials.
Hanji glared at the priest. "You know something...come with me, you have things to tell me." She hissed. I shuddered, she looked scary when she was mad. The old geezer huffed as he bent to catch his breath. Hanji wasn't going to be kept waiting, she took him by his elbow and dragged him towards the wall. Erwin and Levi watched as they departed. What was Hanji going to do to him?
"Eren!" Armin shouted. Mikasa ran towards us at full speed, darting towards the boy as he fell flat on his back. Levi walked over to him.
"Whats wrong?" I asked shakily. My body was wobbily. I suddenly felt extremely tired. What was happening?
"He fainted." Levi stated bluntly. I staggered towards Eren, my eyes feeling heavy. Why did I feel tired? My energy was literally drained... I had to heal Eren...then Erwin, I couldn't afford to sleep now, but sleep sounded so deliciously good right now, I couldn't help it. I fell forward, landing flat on my chest. I could faintly hear the voices of Erwin, Levi, and Armin. The last scene I saw before darkness took over were the eyes of the walled-in titan as it stared at me with a shiny, understanding gaze.
...
Hanji had forced the priest to venture on top of the wall directly above the titan. The supply team had already covered the hole by putting a dark sheet over it. The brown haired woman glared at the priest. He was quiet, despite obviously knowing about the titan residing within the wall. She saw Levi carry Sakura away from afar, while Mikasa carried Eren on her shoulder. It appeared the two had fainted, which was understandable. They were exhausted. Erwin lingered for a few moments before following after Levi. He had entrusted the repairs to Hanji, and expected her to fill him in on what she could dig up. She didn't mind. She was enraged of the circumstances. Why were the survey corps kept in the dark about a titan being in the wall, they risked their lives for the sake of finding out information on the titans dammit! What the hell was the meaning of keeping it a secret? Her people scattered around, working together to cover the hole properly with wet concrete.
"Alright talk, why is there a titan in the goddamn wall?" She seethed.
The old man looked down. "I-I can't tell you that, I'm sorry!"
She got in his face, challenging him. "Is the whole wall filled with titans?"
"I can't say, that's confidential information."
"Who else knows about this? The king? Is this some religious conspiracy?"
"My...Did anyone else see the face? I hope not, it would only cause more panic." He muttered nervously. She growled and gripped his shirt furiously. The bastard was avoiding her questions.
"If you don't speak! I'll kill you right here and now!" She howled in anger.
"Hanji!" Her squad members spoke out to calm her. Mike was the only one watching calmly from the sidelines.
"Do it! I would rather die than talk!" The priest yelled frantically, meeting Hanji's angry gaze.
"Think I won't do it? I'll make you meet your precious god by dropping you off the very wall you worship so much." She violently hurled him beside the edge of the wall, he was on the verge of falling, if it weren't for Hanji grabbing him by his clothes.
"Hanji stop that! You can't get away with killing a man!" A squad member spoke out nervously. She grit her teeth. She didn't give a damn.
"Tell me now, or I will let you fall to your death." She breathed heavily.
"Do it! I do not fear death, you will only get in trouble for killing me without real cause, not even your rank as a soldier can save you." He spread his arms wide. "Let me fall and meet my god! You can torture me, break me, kill me! But you will never make me talk."
"Are you insane?! You'll die a horrible death! I'll throw you to the titans instead!" She moved to swing him across the walls surface, on the outside of the wall where titans roamed freely. He would be eaten in a matter of seconds.
His stare stopped her. "I don't care what you do, nothing will make me tell you what you want to hear, the secret of that walled titan is more important than my very life, kill me!" He was challenging her now, even as her arms shook, she wanted to smash his face with her fists in frustration.
Hanji frowned, almost letting go, so close to just let the religious bastard fall off and die. She couldn't, because he was right. The tension around her was so great she could feel the stares boring into her back. She would only hurt herself in killing him after all. She chose instead, to hurl him into the surface of the wall, making sure he hit his head hard on the wall he loved so much. He clutched his head and curled into a ball, attempting to brace himself in case Hanji beat him. She didn't, she just didn't have it in her. She wished Levi was there to do it, he would beat the crap out of him until he could no longer move. That was just how Levi rolled, not her, she wasn't the violent type.
"It doesn't matter if you don't talk, we will find out the truth." She spoke out with confidence. She stared out at the town, watching her comrades retreat into the survey corpse building. Their forms were too far away to discern, but she somehow knew who was who, and she hoped they would get to discover the many mysteries suddenly revolving around them, turning their world upside down. She watched her friends and hoped no one else would die. Yet Erwin was right, they had two titans as allies now, this time was different. This time, they actually had a chance against the titans.
