Most of my commercial life,

I have been in Logistics.

(For the uninitiated,)

That means,

The movement of goods.

I owned heavy goods vehicles.

(For the uninitiated)

That means trucks.

I employed drivers,

And mechanics,

Ancillary support workers,

All to ensure, 

We carried out our tasks

Efficiently,

And safely.

We carried food,

To supermarkets,

So people could eat.

We carried clothes,

To department stores,

So people could dress.

We carried medicines,

To chemists,

So people were well.

We were proud,

Of what we achieved.

Now,

After Nice,

I am ashamed,

That a man,

Could take my beloved

Beasts of burden,

And use them to kill,

And maim.

I guess I am a cynic

By nature,

But, I wonder,

How low,

Is it truly possible,

For mankind to

Go?
