Too Good To Be True

The dinner with Alex last night went great. I had never spent that much time talking with him before. And I had no idea he had such strong feelings for Emily. He's sweet. I feel bad because I would rather have Emily be with Alex than Dylan. But thanks to Dylan, Emily didn't get the chance to choose.

Now I know why a fight broke out between them all. And poor Emily was stuck in the middle of it. With everything else going on, I imagined how overwhelming Emily must have felt. She didn't even know what Alex wanted to talk to her about. Dylan interrupted them before he could tell her his feelings.

The only thing I still don't understand is why Alex and Gray hadn't been talking to each other since the fight. Gray claims to not have feelings for Emily, so they're not angry at each other for that. But Alex did call Gray a hypocrite.

A headache was forming in my forehead. I should have been concentrating on work. The bright screen wasn't helping the headache. I decided to take a break and find some medication to help. I walked toward the breakroom and saw Alex and Gray having words by Alex's desk. They looked angry.

"What's your problem now?" Alex asked Gray.

"Why don't you mind your own business?" Gray responded.

"It was nothing. Calm down." Alex put his hands up.

"Nothing? So it means nothing to you? What are you trying to do?" Gray stepped closer.

"You know that's not what I mean. You don't have anything to worry about." Alex noticed me watching them. He smiled. "But if you take too long, I might have to step in myself."

Gray hadn't noticed me. He looked like he wanted to hit Alex. What on earth could that be talking about?

"Gentlemen!" Vince's voice boomed behind me.

I spun around. It was Master again. I hadn't heard him sound this serious since he fired Garrett.

"You two. In my office. Now!" Vince pointed to his office door.

Gray scowled at Alex's smirking. He looked startled once he turned around and finally saw me standing there. They walked to Vince's office silently.

Once Vince closed the door, everyone started to whisper.

"Do you know what that was about?"

"Was it about Emily?"

"Why was Gray so angry?"

"Dana, do you know anything?"

"Hey, Ella! Come over here." Dana waved me over.

I quickly walked over. "Yeah?"

"Do you know what that was about?" Dana asked.

"Did Alex say anything to you when you two were at dinner?" Charlotte asked.

"No, we mostly just talked about Emily and work. We didn't really talk about anyone else." I shook my head.

I couldn't tell them all the details. I assumed Alex didn't want people to know his feelings about Emily. Though some people guessed it anyway. They also suspected Gray might have felt the same. Since they both have been acting weird after she left.

Everyone seemed to give up guessing after hearing I didn't know either. We all returned to work. I stepped into the breakroom and took out some medicine from a cabinet. I took a couple of pills and drank a cup of water before I returned to my desk.

Alex and Gray had been in Vince's office for almost half an hour before walking back out. When they stepped out, everyone looked up. We were all confused. Alex and Gray were smiling and laughing with each other.

They each went back to their desks. After them, Vince came walking out and studied the room. He seemed satisfied with what he saw and walked back into his office.

"Alrighty then," I mumbled and continued with my day.

A couple of weeks later, everything seemed to be back to normal. Gray and Alex were talking again and spent more time together during breaks. It was nice to see. But of course, something else had to happen to ruin the calm atmosphere.

"I won't be able to complete all of this today. Chloe hasn't given me the numbers yet." Autumn stood by Gray's desk. Complaining like usual.

Chloe snapped her head up from her computer. "I sent you that email yesterday!"

Autumn scoffed. "Well, I didn't see it. Send it again."

Chloe rolled her eyes. She sent the email again. "There. Look."

Autumn strolled back to her desk and stared at her computer.

"Okay, now I have it. But I don't think I can finish it today. Chloe sent it to me so late." Autumn whined.

Chloe groaned.

I looked at Gray. His face was unreadable.

"If you worked this whole time instead of complaining, it would have been done by now." Gray coldly said.

"I'm going to need your help then." Autumn was snippy.

"You want help. Alright. I'll be right back." Gray stood up and walked into Vince's office.

I looked at Autumn. She seemed a little nervous after Gray shut the door. I could hear some loud muffled voices. It sounded like Gray and Vince were arguing.

A few minutes later, they both walked out and stood by Autumn.

"Ms. Byers, what seems to be the problem?" Vince asked in a very polite voice.

"Gray is asking something impossible from me." Autumn waved her arms around.

She continued to rant about whatever problem she had with her work and coworkers. We were all pretending to be working while listening in. Vince smiled, but he was getting just as frustrated as everyone else with her nonsense.

"Alright, may I take a look at what your assignment is?" Vince asked as he peered at her computer.

Autumn nodded her head in confidence. "Go ahead." She folded her arms and let Vince look at the document on her screen, and the emails Gray and Chloe sent her.

"Well, from what I can tell by this assignment and all the training you have received over the last ten years or so, I am confident you can finish this by the end of the day" Vince smiled at her again.

Autumn looked at the clock on the wall behind her. "But there are only two hours left of my shift."

Vince continued to smile. "Well, if you go an hour or two into overtime, I'll allow it. But I know you can finish."

Autumn looked stunned. She must have thought she would have been able to get away with getting help and having someone else do most of the work. I had to hold in my laugh. I took in a deep breath and went back to my own assignment.

It was dead silent for the next two hours. By the end of our shift, everyone else was getting ready to leave. Autumn was still working on her report. She looked pissed as she watched everyone walk by her desk to the elevators. No one wanted to offer their help. She had taken advantage of everyone for too long. Everyone walked out of the office happy with how Vince handled her.

Unfortunately, that didn't last long. We had no idea how petty Autumn could be.
