Showers and Fires
The morning sun crept through the window, waking me from my slumber. As my eyes adjusted to the light, I realized I was not alone in bed. Gray lay next to me, his arm draped over my waist.
As I lay there, I took a moment to appreciate the morning's quiet stillness. I watched as Gray's chest rose and fell with each breath. A sense of contentment washed over me. For the first time in a long time, I felt pleased.
Gray started to stir as I lay there, lost in my thoughts. He opened his eyes and smiled when he noticed me looking at him. "Good morning," he said in a sleepy voice.
"Good morning," I replied, unable to keep the smile off my face.
We lay there for a few more minutes, enjoying the quiet of the morning.
Eventually, Gray perked up. "Let's take a shower." He sat up in bed.
"You can go first." I say as I turn over to stretch.
"No, let's take one together." His face lights up.
"Oh." My face flushed. "I guess we can do that." My heart raced for some reason. Even with what happened between us last night, showering together seemed much more intimate. Yet, another thing I had never experienced before.
As I stepped into the shower with Gray, the water cascaded over us, creating a sensual atmosphere. The steam fogged up the glass doors. I could feel his presence behind me as he reached for the shampoo bottle on the shelf. His warm breath on my neck sent shivers down my spine.
I closed my eyes and tilted my head back as Gray massaged the shampoo into my scalp. The scent of lavender filled the air as he lathered my hair. I sighed, contented, as he rinsed the suds away with the handheld showerhead.
He then reached for the body wash and began to lather up a loofah. I turned to face him and closed the distance between us. He started washing my body from my shoulders and worked his way down. His strong hands on my skin sent a wave of pleasure through me, feeling the tension in my muscles melt away.
The water continued to pour over us as Gray finished washing my body. He then hands me the loofah, and I wash his chest, feeling the muscles beneath his skin ripple with each stroke. I traveled down his stomach, lingering over his abs before moving lower. He moaned softly, his body responding to my touch. The sound of water falling and the occasional sighs of pleasure were the only sounds in the room.
He slowly turned his back to me. I started washing his broad back, working my way down to his waist. I could feel him relaxing under my touch as I continued to scrub his skin.
Gray handed me a shampoo bottle, and I lathered up his hair as the warm water poured on us. I worked my fingers through the strands, massaging his scalp as the shampoo bubbled and foamed.
After we rinsed off, Gray first stepped out of the shower and handed me a towel. Wrapped in towels, we made our way back to his bedroom. I quickly put on yesterday's clothes to run across the street to my apartment to change into fresh clothes. After changing, I met him at his car, and we headed to work together.
Arriving at work together had become less awkward. Everyone in the office seemed to have finally adjusted to Gray and me being together. We held hands as we walked into the office, and I noticed our co-workers' looks of acceptance and admiration.
All except Autumn. She scowled as usual. I shrugged it off, and we approached her desk. I smiled, but she stared at us coldly.
Gray put his arm around me and said, "Good morning, Autumn." She didn't respond and looked back at her computer.
I couldn't help but smile, knowing she was about to finally get what was coming to her. I settled into my desk and tried to go about my morning like usual, first checking emails. But I struggled to focus as I kept glancing at Vince's door, waiting for him to come out.
Ten minutes felt like hours before Vince finally stepped out of his office, looking immaculate in his tailored suit. His eyes were cold, and his expression was stern as he surveyed the office. Everyone stopped what they were doing and stared at him, their eyes wide with fear.
This extreme tension radiating off him was very rare to witness. He walked with purpose and authority, his head held high and his gaze fixed on Autumn. His face softened as he stopped in front of her desk.
In a quiet but firm voice, he said, "Autumn, I need to speak with you in my office."
As she stood up from her chair, Autumn remained silent, feigning confidence. Her pale face gave her away. The door closed behind them, and everyone in the office breathed a collective sigh of relief. The office once again filled with the sound of typing and quiet chatter.
A minute later, I heard loud, muffled voices. It sounded like Autumn and Vince were arguing. Slowly, everyone started to notice it, too, and stopped working. We all stared at Vince's office. The shouting grew louder and clearer before the door swung open.
"I gave the best years of my life to this damned pathetic company! I should have had your job twenty years ago!" Autumn stormed out of his office.
Vince followed her. "You don't deserve the chances this company took on you. Now leave!" He said.
She wouldn't turn back to him. Instead, she turned to me and pointed. "You. It was you, wasn't it? I'll do worse to you next!"
I was shocked at how she was reacting. There was no doubt in my mind that she would have made a scene. But not like this. As she stormed into the elevator, I watched her disappear behind the elevator's closing doors. The look on her face disturbed me. Such an evil look.
I took a deep breath and looked away. Autumn had been a thorn in everyone's side for weeks, and her departure was a welcome sight. With her removed, we could finally focus on the tasks at hand and make real progress.
