Phone Calls

Mark's POV

Jack's been gone for a couple hours now and I was getting hungry. I also knew I needed to call my mom to tell her the good news. I grabbed my phone off the side table, I still hadn't left the couch since my nap, I dialed my mom to talk about Jack and how we met.

She picked up around the third ring and greeted me, "Hello, Mark! How are you?"

"I'm doing good. So mom, guess what?"

"What?"

"I found my soulmate!"

"That's wonderful! What are they like?"

"Loud, Irish, cute, giggly, smaller than me, a boy, kind, and just overall amazing. His name is Sean."

"Well that's good, but I did expect you to get with a lady though." She said with a chuckle.

"I don't make the rules mom."

"Oh I know. But I still want grandkids! And if your brother turns out to be gay too, I better expect some adopted grandkids."

"I don't think Tom's gay mom," I said with a laugh.

"Well I didn't think you were gay either!" I knew my mother said that without malicious intent.

"I'm sure he'll give you some great grand-babies."

"Good, I want to make cookies."

"You can do that anytime!@

"Yes, but they're not special magic grandma cookies."

I rolled my eyes at her statement. "Alright alright, I promise you'll have grandkids to make cookies for."

"Yes! Now go love on that boy."

"Will do mommy."

"Love you Mark."

"Love you too, Mom." And with that I set my phone down, smiling.

"I'm home Mark!" I heard Jack calling from the entryway. I looked over at the door to see Jack carrying a small white box.

"Is that my dinner?" I asked.

He nodded and walked over to me, "Its salad from Rocksalt inn."

"Haven't been there in a while, how was it?"

"Really good, especially for my first time."

I smiled and gently grabbed the box from Jack's hands and walked into the kitchen to get a fork. Jack followed me and we both sat down at the table.

"So how was hanging out with Felix?" I asked, not looking up from the food I was eating.

"It was good. He brought his friend along too and we faked being together to get food." He chuckled. I looked up, my fork still in my hand.

"What?" I exclaimed in surprise. I was actually worried about this.

"We told the waiter that we were a couple to get a big meal, it's no big deal." Jack said defensively.

"Did they do anything to you?"

He shook his head, "Nah, Wilford was fine. He called me a hunk and that's about it."

"Wilford?" I questioned.

"Felix's friend. He gave me his number before we left. I might head over to his house sometime."

"Could I come with you?" I couldn't help it, I was getting defensive.

"Yeah, he sounded interested in you," Jack said.

I ate the salad, trying to enjoy it. I tried to keep up a little bit of banter, but ultimately failing, leaving the two of us in an unsettling silence. Why did he bring me up? Why was this Wilford guy interested in meeting me? I had way too many questions and it made me feel sick to my stomach. I set down my fork and just started at my food.

"Are you okay, Mark?" Jack said, his voice laced with concern.

I shook my head.

"Whats wrong?"

"I just have a lot of questions..."

"About what?" Jack asked.

"A lot of things..."

"You're not helping me Mark. What are worried about right now?"

"Too much."

Jack groaned and I lifted my head to look at him, "Babe, come on."

I was silent as I turned my head away from Jacks gaze.

"I'm gonna head upstairs. I'll leave his number on the table incase you wanna call him." And with that, he set the small piece of paper on the table and walked upstairs. Once I heard the door close I quickly dialed the number.

I heard someone pick up almost immediately.

"Hello, this is Mark, Jack's boyfriend."

"Ah! Hello Mark! I've been expecting you to call. I'm Wilford."
