Sarah pulled at Josie's arm.
"We need to get out of here. Now."
Before Josie had chance to speak out, Sarah ran through the corridors once more, so Josie had to run after her. The heat was really getting to her, now: her head started to pound and her eyes were starting to go hazy...
"COME ON, JO! WE NEED TO LEAVE, NOW!"
"Why are you so insistent?!"
She got no reply. Instead, she just had to keep running after Sarah. Josie's eyes were concocting images of swirling stars and black dots by the time she finally caught up with Sarah. When her back came in view, Josie slowed her pace to a jog-like one.
"Hey, why are you so..."
Wait, what? Josie looked around. She was sure that Sarah had just been there but now she was gone.
No, I must be going mad.
She dug her fists into her eye sockets and rubbed. When she opened them again, Josie was surprised that Sarah still wasn't there.
"Sarah?! Where are you?"
No response.
What was going on? How could Sarah just...
She stumbled over to the wall, the heat becoming completely unbearable now. Putting her back against it for support, she felt something odd. As though she was about to fall through it. Without any hesitation, she immediately shot up off the wall through instinct. Sure enough, the wall was starting to trickle with paint. It was melting.
But how? How could a building that has obviously been here for some time just melt?
None of the happenings made sense to Josie. She fought back the urge to collapse and ran through the corridors once more, the sun boring more intensely into her as she passed each window. Even the ceiling had started to melt, the white paint dropped onto her head and saturated her greasy hair. After long enough, Josie came across the way out. Stepping out into the deserted open, she just collapsed to the red hot floor, defeated. The next thing she knew, she was falling through a continuous black abyss, unable to stop, no concept of what was going on, no concept of time, until...
"Wake up, sleepyhead, we've made breakfast!"
