Chapter Three
The train was pretty empty, considering it was a Friday. Josie thought there'd be at least 100 commuters on the train. In fact, there were only about 40 people throughout all the carriages. She was travelling with Anna, Sarah and Kaity to Jackson Woods, with her backpack in tow. Even now, Josie was still having her doubts about the whole idea. She stared out onto the foggy landscape, head pressed against the cool glass.
Is it really worth it just to prove I'm not a prude?
Well, there was no turning back now. Unfortunately for Josie, she was on a train that was not about to turn around at one teenagers request. If she wanted to go home, she'd have to get off at the next stop, and that would mean-
"Hey daydreamer, we're here!"
Josie turned her head to find Sarah's blue eyes staring eagerly into hers. They sparkled with mischief, a true reflection of Sarah's trait. Looking across from her, Josie found that Kaity had dosed off into a book, her brunette hair falling in tumbles to disguise her sleeping face. She reached to Kaity and gently shook her awake, which startled her.
"We're here, Kate."
The girls got off the train and looked at the sight in front of them. Jackson Woods. How could a forest look so eerie but so enticing at the same time? Whilst a heavy mist wove itself around the trees, there was a bitter air of mystery about it that interested Josie so much.
"The woods look kinda creepy", Anna blatantly stated.
"Well whaddaya expect? It's not gonna be all sunshine and rainbows, kiddo. C'mon, let's make our way over."
Walking towards the woods, Josie felt a feeling of unease suddenly hit her like a ton of bricks. The closer she got, the more she saw it. Towering, dark trees and no sign of light inside the forest. The canopy of the trees did well to ensure that no light found its way in, as nothing was growing. The closer she got, the more she heard it. Move, move, move. Now, she felt no excitement. No interest. She just wanted to run as far away as possible from that forest. However, she didn't get the chance to, as within a split second, she had collapsed to the ground.
