Chapter One

Staring at the phone, Josie felt her heart hammer against her chest and her hands go clammy. Who could be calling her? The phone was only a couple of days old. She hadn't gotten round to giving out her phone number yet...
As she went to accept the call, the phone immediately stopped in a huff, as though it didn't want to wait around any longer for Josie to pick up. Josie felt relief wash over her and her heartbeat returned back to normal, while her hands remained clammy. She flicked through her doodle book and reached for her colouring pencils in her drawer, eager to forget about the situation that just occurred.
It wasn't the first time something like this had happened to Josie. Growing up, she'd experienced frequent panic attacks, which were only worsened by the bullies through primary. Once she reached secondary school, however, the bullying stopped, and the panic attacks calmed down as a result. The chain reaction had helped Josie to make a small circle of friends. Kaity was the brain box of the group, who could answer an algebra question at the drop of a hat. She was the one who Josie aspired to be like at school. Anna was the quiet one, a girl who silently wished that the teacher didn't pick her to read out loud to the class. Then there was Sarah, the rebel of the circle. Sometimes, Josie wondered why Sarah was in the friendship group at all, since she stuck out like a sore thumb. Sarah was the girl with the looks, the class clown who loved nothing more than to talk back to the teacher just to keep her classmates amused. Although she wasn't that bright, Josie knew that Sarah was destined for a lifetime of greatness, full of wanderlust, which Josie herself so desperately craved. Josie was sort of the underdog of the group. She wasn't as bright as Kaity, didn't have the cute shyness of Anna and certainly wasn't as daring as Sarah. She was quite plain compared to her friends, who all had their individual quirks and personalities. But there was one thing that Josie had that no one else in the group had...
She just didn't know about it yet.
