Question 3: Cats (how to change your cat's uncontrollable behaviour)

@XenoSaiyan asks: Why is my cat so playful? She thinks she's a dog,but she still displays clear cat instincts, like trying to scratch furniture, hissing when she doesn't like stuff, and not doing much more than purring while being pet.

A cat is actually not an animal I've owned for awhile, I may love them but I'm allergic. That being said I did have farm cats and they were very fun!

There is many, many reasons why your cat could be acting like this. One, cats are naturally active  due to being a predatory animal, running around chasing things (that more times then not are imaginary) is the sign of a healthy cat, but an overactive cat. Dog like behaviour in cats is actually pretty common, cats have the interesting ability of taking on the characteristics of those they grow up with, similar to us primates. Monkey see, monkey do, or in this case copy cat! (Sorry not sorry.) if your cat was raised around dogs then the cat will act more like a dog, perhaps this is to fit in and feel more connected. Next reason could be due to the cat's breed, the most common breed of cat in the world is the European short/longhair cat, which comes in basically every colour and is usually thought of as the mutt of cats, but it's still likely your cat has a scrap of a different breed in her, one with hyper as a feature.

Now if you want to stop your cat from acting all crazy, it's actually pretty simple. Going back to the playfulness, cats can easily become much more playful/hyper if they lack attention in excise, this usually leads to problems like scratching furniture, digging up plants, knocking things over, and yowling (basically the cat edition of howling, usually done at late hours) otherwise known simply as boredom. Try playing with your cat more with toys (a simple laser pen or a feather on the end of a stick works wonders) for at least a good twenty minutes. If you can afford it, buy a new scratching post and show your cat how to use it (yes I literally mean scratch it yourself, remember copy cat) and reward them with a small treat and praise. If you do this daily, it will solve what I'm pretty certain is boredom as she'll be excised to the point of being too tired to be hyper, a nice cat nap will probably follow and over time you should find that your cat won't scratch the furniture as often nor be so hyper.  Hope this helps!
