Just a hour ago from this post my adult female Pygmy hedgehog Anita gave birth to six babies! I managed to get a picture of them when she was eating, this is the only time I'll get to see them for the next week as the first week is the most dangerous for the babies and it's best that I don't disturb them. Anita has had another litter before, but that litter was significantly smaller with only three squealers. That being said I have faith that she'll be a great mother like she was last time. 

Things to keep in mind if you ever have your own babies:

1) once you are certain your hedgie is pregnant, remove the male and place him in a separate enclosure, male hedgehogs will likely eat their young. 

2) don't disturb the female or her babies, and be sure to place her food and water dishes close by so she can easily get food and water. 

3) make sure the enclosure that the mama and babies are in is warm!
