The Wolf Under Moonlight
A/N: Hello. I said I would post a fanfic a couple weeks ago, but the one I'm working on isn't done yet. I'll start posting the chapters hopefully pretty soon, but until then, here's a really short story for you that I wrote to practice my writing that I like to call, "mysterious". Hope you like it.
(But before you begin reading, I want to say that I own the cover because I drew it. Okay? Okay. We're cool.)
I stand out in the open in the flat fields. It's dark, and the darkness surrounds me like a deep blue blanket-almost black, but not quite. The cold air nips at my skin. I feel alone and scared, so I look up at the sky. The stars shimmer high above me, and the full moon is shining brighter than I have ever seen it shine. I can't help but smile. As long as the stars are scattered across the sky, I don't feel frightened. But when I glance down at the ground again, the darkness seals tightly around me.
I hear something. A howl in the night. The sound sends a chill shooting up my spine. Then I hear the howl a second time.
The sound grows louder and louder. I take a couple steps backwards. As the howling intensifies, my heart beats faster and faster. The creature causing the howling to go on and on in the night is nearby. But I don't know exactly where it is, and that frightens me.
It could be anywhere, and I'm out here in wide open space for it to get me. Now my heart threatens to burst out of my chest. The howls fill my ears, and I'm more frightened than ever. But soon the howling comes to an end. It all stops.
It's quiet. It's so quiet that I can hear my ears ringing. I stand in the darkness-silent, holding my breath, waiting for something to happen-anything. I can't stand the suspense.
I look around hesitantly even though I can barely see anything in the night. But this time, I see something that astonishes me. It's the creature-a gray wolf.
I stare blankly at the wolf for a long period of time. It's staring right back at me with it's glowing pale yellow eyes. I grin and let a delighted little laugh escape past my lips. It's absolutely beautiful.
Usually when someone sees a wolf, they're scared, but for some unknown reason, I feel relaxed-calm even. The wolf sniffs the air as I stand still. It points its ears in a specific direction, then it takes off into the night.
I turn on my heels to continue my journey. But I could of swore I heard another faint howl in the distance. It leaves me to wonder.
A/N: So, how was it? I would appreciate it if you would be so kind and leave a comment. I would love to hear your opinion on this little story of mine. Well, have a wonderful day! I have some writing I need to get to. :)
