Cougar

We were out hunting for rabbit and we came upon a den in the snow. I sniffed around for any sign of a territorial mark. There was faint whiffs of fur, but other than that, nothing. Fillin poked his head inside the abandoned den and took a look around.

"Whoever lived here was definitely wasn't a rabbit. It's not a wolf though." Fillin was just being his awesome self, while I watched.

"Do you think it could have been a mountain lion or a cougar?" I pitched in trying to be helpful. And right then, as if it was rehearsed, a cougar jump through the trees behind me.

"Did someone call my name" it seemed say in the stare it gave me. I growled trying not to show fear. Fillin jumped in front and motion me to get behind the group. I did what he asked without hesitation and started to howl for backup. Full grown cougars could easily kill a wolf if it wanted to.

"Circle him! Make him know he is out numbered!" Fillin was calling out orders while I watched in panic. I wanted to help, but had never fought before. And I don't have training because I am a she-wolf! I felt helpless.

***Fillin's pov***

I never actually been in a fight with a cougar. Only other wolves and prey. I growled at the cougar and tried to scare it as much as possible so maybe it would back off, but this guy wouldn't budge! I looked back towards Kit and saw her frightened face. I wouldn't let her get hurt, even if it means I have too.

I turned back to the cougar, who now lunged towards me but I dodged It. I dove for it's neck and bit down as hard as I could, trying lock a death grip. I failed and the cougar leapt on top of me and swiped at my face. It's claws caught my eye. Blood was dripping from ,my now blind, eye as I yelped in pain. I heard Kit in the background whimper and run towards me. Then everything went black.

***back to Kit's pov***

"Fillin, no!" I ran to his side while the others held off the cougar. I saw him go limp and his left eye torn down the middle, bleeding. I started to cry, as my father and a team of others joined the scene. I walked by Fillin as he was dragged back to the camp. The cougar had been killed and we were all heading back together. My father was silent the whole way and I knew he was angry at me.

"Kit! Kit, what happened out there!" Lana ran up to me when we reached camp and was curious. I new I had Fillin's blood on my nose when Lana started freaking out. "Oh my gosh! what happened to your nose! Kit, talk to me!"

"We found a cougar and they tried to scare it off, but it attacked Fillin who jumped in front of me. And I was to scared to help. Fillin got hurt, but I'm fine. It's his blood." I started cry and Lana embraced me.

"Let's go somewhere else. ok"

"Yea, ok" we turned and started to head off when I heard a slight growl behind me. Dad.

"Come here now, kit!" I turned to meet the furious eyes of my protective father. I followed him, but looked back. Lana gave me a "good luck" face and kept walking the opposite way.

"What were you thinking! Who knows what could have happened to you!" He treated me like I was still a cub.

"But, dad, nothing
happened to me. Fillin wouldn't let me get hurt and I was too scared to fight anyway! So nothing possibly could have happened to me!" I wanted to just run and not turn back, but I couldn't leave now. Not with what happened.

"How do you know nothing could have happened to you. You don't know that! From now on you cannot leave this den until I say!" He didn't just say that. Now I really did want to run.

"Ugh, dad you don't get it!"

"I don't want to hear it!" and with that he gestered towards the den for me to go in and I did. If I disobeyed not just as a daughter, but as a pack member, it would make things worse.
