--------SEVERAL WEEKS LATER--------

Coralheart twitched but still could not get to sleep. She hadn't been able to sleep for a while, not since Shadow and Star had come back with the terrible news about the pack. They all mourned the loss of their pack. 

Coralheart stood up and padded silently about the island, feeling the cool night air brush through her fur and the soft beach sand simmer between her toes. It was a pity that the night should be so lovely, considering the horrible thing that, although it had occurred a fortnight ago, was still fresh on all of their minds.

She stopped and watched the waves of the ocean gently splash against each other. How harmless it seemed, but her experience told her it could be and was a monster too.

More than any of their lost pack, she would miss the alpha female, Skyclaw. They had been almost like sisters. They had been there for each other when they were younger, just like Star, and Snowy.

And they had had their pups around the same times, too... she vividly remembered, when Star and Shadow were younger, the way they frolicked with Skyclaw's pups, and Skyclaw and she talked, while their mates were away hunting...

Suddenly, Coralheart sensed something moving. She listened closely, ears trained towards the spot where she had heard the sound, and eyes narrowed for any source of movement.

She heard quiet, playful howls, but they surprised and disturbed her-they were the sound made by wolves who were playfully flirting... and judging by the sound, the male was much older than the female. She listened again, and leaned forward-she must have accidentally stepping on a twig in doing so, because a loud 'snap'! sounded across the grove. The howls stopped, and she imagined the two wolves were frozen, and the female's eyes were wide with fear, and the male wrapped his tail about her and-

Coralheart, she chided herself, You are a grown wolf-with a mate and two pups. You know better than to think such ridiculous thoughts. 

And even as she walked away, the pair of wolves were still frozen, the male's tail wrapped around the female.
