Chapter 10

I woke quickly at a bucket of cold water and hissed in pain.

I found myself shackled in silver and facing three or four wizards.

"Where am I?" I asked after they stared at me for a while without speaking.

"Azkaban." The one nearest me spoke.

I looked at him confused.

"Prison for wizards. Very shortly when we leave the guards, known as dementors, they shall guard you. Do you know what the dementor's specialist ability is?" The person asked.

I shook my head.

"They suck all the happiness out of people." The person smiled wickedly.

"No!" I shouted getting up only to fall on the floor because of the chains. "I didn't mean to! I... it was an accident!" I cried.

"Just be glad your professor Snape isn't here with you for helping a murdering werewolf. By the way, where's the vampire?" The person asked as a side thought.

"It was Matt." I choked out.

The people grunted and walked out leaving me alone.

"Don't leave me here! I'm sorta innocent." I paused. "Ok I'm not, just get me outa here!" I yelled louder.

"There gonna leave you here, you know that right?" A person said from the corner of the room.

I spun around and saw that a man was inside the cell I was in.

"No, no, no, this isn't good." I muttered to myself.

"Live with it. They won't come back for you." The man said.

"No, being with you isn't good." I said.

"Is it because of who I am? Sirius Black." The man asked.

I paused for a second. "Never heard of you. No, it's because I'm a werewolf."

The man turned from the wall and looked at me.

"Born or bitten?"

"Bitten." I pointed to the scar on my face.

The man grunted. "I'll be fine."

I looked at him shocked. "No, no it's not, I'll transform at the next full moon and kill you, without wanting or meaning to."

The man smiled. "You sound like my old friend I used to know, he was a werewolf too. I used to be with him when he transformed, and I'm still here today." The man said.

I smiled a little in relief, "I don't want to kill anymore without meaning to." I murmured.

"What do you mean?" He frowned.

"I accidentally killed someone a while ago. Went on the run, got caught, came here." I said.

"Your the werewolf that killed that Matt person?" He asked.

"Not on purpose, he bit a friend of mine, Matt was a vampire, and I punched him. Before I knew it I had killed him. I didn't mean to you know, I just, couldn't control it." Then, for the first time since the incident, I cried.

The man walked over to me and hugged me.

"And it's not like I could fully blame the wolf either cuz I was human." I told him wiping my tears.

"Everyone makes mistakes, I did. We all have, but it's what we do afterwards that counts." Sirius said.

I looked at him and he smiled.

I shivered suddenly and Sirius stepped back towards the wall.

"The dementors are coming." He said grimly.

Looking around I saw sort of ghosty looking things hovering off the ground towards me.

I felt cold and my stomach turned over and I was aware that Sirius was crying.

The dementors looked at me for a while while I looked at them afraid before they moved on.

It was a while before their effects wore off but I could hear people's screams and crying for a long time from the cells near us.

"I'm sorry about that, the dementors, they effect me badly." Sirius apologised.

"It's ok, I see now why." I said.

We sat together in silence for a while thinking of nothing yet everything.

"Hoot, hoot, hoot!" I heard an owl at an small window.

"Snaps?" I frowned. "What are you doing here?"

The owl lifted up a letter.

I went to move and hissed in pain because of the silver chains bound on me.

"I'll get it." Sirius said.

He got the letter and the owl flew away as he came back and gave it to me.

Ignoring the pain I opened it and read it out loud.

"Brooke,
I am so sorry your in Azkaban, I was reading a letter from you when a Aurora came in. They made me show them the letters I'd got from you. I should of burned them, I know.
They must of sent an owl to you pretending to be me because I'd been told that you'd been sent to Azkaban without a trial.
I tried to tell them you didn't mean to do what you did but they wouldn't listen. God knows what your going through right now but I promise you, on my life, I am trying to get you out of there.
Sit there and don't do anything stupid,
Snape."

Sirius jumped. "Snape? Did I hear you correct?"

I nodded. "Yes, he helped me while I was on the run. And when I was not, he seemed to me, that he was the only one who truly understood me."

Sirius looked shocked. "He was? Perhaps he's turned a new leaf." He said half to himself.

"Pardon?"

"It doesn't matter. I knew him a long time ago and he's changed since then. Thankfully for the better."

Sirius went into one of his pockets and drew out a pencil. "I'll write a letter back to him. The next owl that comes we'll send it.

Sirius then began to write for a long time before putting the letter in his pocket.

"Don't worry Brooke, you will be fine." Sirius smiled.

Four years later and apart from an owl once a month from Snape which included a potion to help me when I transformed we were subjected to the wrath of the dementors. No one came to tell me how long my sentence was for and so I came to the conclusion that I was to remain here forever.

Me and Sirius soon came to grips with each other, knowing each other's life inside out. When one of us got very effected by the dementors we tried to cheer each other up.

After the last transformation I had given up waiting for Snape to get me out of here and came up with a plan to get out.

It wasn't a happy memory because of the danger and the dementors so they didn't find out about it.

Fudge came once or twice a year but never for long and never too close to us.

Sirius taught me how to turn into an animal, a normal one, and that the animal stopped the dementor's chilling effects.

One night Sirius decided it was time for me to go. We used our strength to pull the metal bars off the small window we had and I transformed.

I turned into an silvery gray owl with an black line on one side of my cheek that was the same shape as my scar

"Go." Sirius urged me when I hesitated on the edge.

"Hoot?" I said.

"Don't worry about me, I'll make my own way out of here. Go now before it's too late!" Sirius said.

I bowed my head at him then jumped off the edge and began falling down the huge cliff like structure of Azkaban walls.
