Rasberries
There was a cracking noise and I saw Mindy's arm do the same thing as her leg.
Kimberly just stared and watched. She stood at least two feet away. She was the one that picked us up out of the car, but the second she gently placed us on the ground she moved away. She had a look on her face that made me think she was battling with herself if she should come over to help or not. She decided on no, as the tree she was standing next to was practically in a bear hug. "If I go closer to you, you will either end up hurting me or hurting yourself."
There was nothing that Kimberly could do to make it better, but just having her support, although she was far away, it was still enough.
"Keep breathing. Breathe in and out. Breathe slowly!" Kimberly kept commanding.
I didn't understand what was happening. This wasn't just Mindy's first shift. This was my first shift.
Another cracking sound, followed after another. The sound erupting like fire crackers.
The surroundings started to became hazy. The trees started to become blobs of green, and Kimberly was molding together with the tree she was standing next to. I could start to hear things clearly and then it would be like I hit a mute button and everything would became quiet. My screen was becoming blurry with tears, but I could start making out someone running up to Kimberly. I had to really focus to the point that my headache started to become worse, but I knew for that split second when everything became clear that it was Ava who was talking to Kimberly. I only caught the words "wrong" and "care."
I saw her take a step towards me but Kimberly grabbed a hold of her arm with one hand. I couldn't hear what they said to each other, but Ava pulled her arm free and didn't move her feet anymore.
I could feel myself have movement in one of Mindy's legs, it was weird. Like half of me was in her head as the other part was in control of her leg movement. The process continue until the screen that I was looking at circled around me, so that I could see behind me and in front of me. It felt like a hand pushed me in the back and suddenly I was thrusted outside of Mindy's body.
Kimberly stopped her yelling and released her arms from around the tree and straightened out her shirt. She didn't take a step closer to me, but she did stare for a long time before she blinked. "I've never had to watch someones first shift before today, and I really don't want to again."
I wanted to take a step towards Kimberly, but forgot I had four legs and almost fell flat on my nose. "Are you okay, Wolff." Mindy's voice sounded like it always did, but it felt weird having me in control.
"I'm good, how are you holding up?"
"Tired"
Feet appeared in front of me and I looked up to find Ava in tears. "Why didn't you tell me that you never shifted before."
I don't think she expected me to answer her, but there was no way I could. She wouldn't understand a growl anyways. I did want to ask her why she didn't go back to her pack though, instead she was standing right in front of us.
"Do you want to shift back," I asked Mindy.
"No, I want you to run for a little bit. Have some fun."
I shook my head at Ava and turned my head towards the forest on the right side of her. She seemed to understand and took a step to her left. "Fine, but the minute you get back I want answers." I nodded. And without Kimberly needing to say anything to me, I took off in a sprint into the forest.
I stuck out my tongue. No one told me to slow down or stop, I could just feel them watching me until I knew I was out of sight. I could feel branches hitting me on my sides, since my steering wasn't the best, but the more I ran the better I got.
I could also finally look behind me to make sure I was alone, something that I couldn't do looking through Mindy's eyes.
I got tired fast and decided to take a break by the pond that I recently encountered and lapped up some water. I forgot what it felt like to taste certain things, and the water wasn't bad at all, I could feel it travel down my throat and had the feeling of contentment as I plopped myself down beside the pond.
I closed my eyes and smelled raspberries. The smells made my stomach growl and I tried to follow where the scent was coming from, but every time I ran in one direction it was like the raspberries moved and I had to chase after them. The scent would become really strong and then start to faint. It was becoming really frustrating.
"Mindy, can you stop going in circles, you are making me dizzy." Ava stood about two yards away. "What are you looking for?" I sniffed the air one more time, but the smell was completely gone, like it was never there in the first place.
Too exhausted to run anymore, I decided it was a good time to shift back. "So how are we supposed to do this?" I asked Mindy.
"I remember I took a class a while back about shifting back. And it said to think about who you want to shift too. That's how it works for shifting into you or me."
"Okay, I'll give it a try."
I closed my eyes really hard and imagined having two legs, but it didn't work, when I opened my eyes was still in wolf form. The second time I tried harder. I though about the first time I saw Mindy looking at herself in the mirror, that one day of school in the bathroom: Blonde hair and gray eyes.
The process was slightly painful, but It felt better then shifting the first time. When I opened my eyes again I was stuck again looking through a screen.
Kimberly came out from the direction where the car was and threw a set of clothes at us. I forgot that when we change back she would be naked. Mindy didn't make a big deal about it as she put on the clothes.
"I knew that extra set I clothes I had would become handy someday." Kimberly smiled to herself.
"So now you have some explaining to do," Ava said as she looked directly at us.
"I think you are the one that needs to explain."
"What do I need to explain?"
"How are you still here?"
"Oh, right." Ava wore a slight smile. "My dad and my mate made an agreement for me to stay at the pack house for three days before I go back. It would give me and my mate more time to know each other better and more time to plan."
She stopped talking, and practically begged Mindy with her eyes to ask her a certain question. "What plan?"
"We came up with a way for me to run my pack, and for me to still be with my mate of a different pack. We are going to combine packs. No one knows any of this information yet, so you can't tell anyone. She looked at Kimberly, and then to us.
I didn't know how to react, people have tried to combine packs before and it either completely works or it goes down in flames. It was better to stay positive, and that's what Mindy must have thought to "I think that is great news."
"Thank you." Then Ava became serious, "Now you have to tell me why you didn't tell me you couldn't shift.
Mindy told her every detail of when she realized she couldn't shift, until now. Ava took everything in and by the end gave Mindy a big hug. "I will tell Mathew about this, and don't worry, you will never have to be hurt again." The bullying at school story really got to Ava. And I'm glad now that Mindy has two friends that will look out for her.
Mindy's stomach rumbled and Kimberly piped in, "Well, someone's hungry."
"You must be starving," Ava said. "Let's go get something to eat."
"My car is right over here,' Kimberly said. "So what do you want to eat?"
"Do you have any raspberries?"
"Not at my house, but I'm sure we could go to the store and pick some up. Does that sound good?"
"Yep."
"Is there a reason why you want to get raspberries?" Everyone was strapping themselves in the car, including Ava who was in the back. Apparently she was going to see Mindy to tell her the news about her and Mathew when she got close enough to Mindy's house, she heard Mindy scream and came running over to see what was happening.
"No particular reason, I just like raspberries."
I know its been a long time since I updated...and it will be a really long time till I update again. Maybe never?
I know you all have questions (Probably the three of you that waited for this chapter) but I have just lost all my interest for this story. It's not that I have writers block and don't know what to write. I actually planned out the whole story from the very beginning, every single chapter. And maybe that's why Im not interested in the story anymore, because I already know what happens.
Im a pantser writer (I write by the seat of my pants) I like not knowing what is going to happen, but when I outlined this story for the first time, it was like,"Okay, now what?" Its so weird knowing the story without it being written, and now I'm bored with it.
Don't get me wrong, I love werewolf stories, but sometimes I just need a break from them. Im actually writing another story right now that I want to get traditionally published in the future (Hint: Its one of the ideas in my "Story Ideas" book.)
Thank you so much for reading <3
