"Ava are you okay?" Ava was leaning over her mattress holding her head with both her hands.
"People keep trying to communicate with me at the same time, its giving me a headache."
"Can't you just cut off the mind link?" Mindy asked.
"Usually, but my wolf won't let me, she just wants her mate. She won't even let me communicate with other pack members, and they are all worried about where I am, but I can't tell them I'm okay, because my wolf won't let me!"
"Then I think it's time that we go off to get your mate." Mindy rubbed her eyes and got off of her mattress and went over to Ava and grabbed her wrists to take them off her head. "And we should do it as soon as possible since your headache will only get worse, and holding your head will not help."
Ava agreed and put on her shoes before getting slowly up off the mattress, but it was too slow of a pace for Mindy, so Mindy grabbed her hand and ran to the door and opened it. The sun was now up, but barely. So it was still pretty early in the morning.
"When did you start getting the headache?"
"Only a couple of minutes before you woke up."
"The only reason I woke up is because you screamed," Mindy said.
Ava looked down at the ground. "I'm sorry about that."
I took a good look at Ava and how her hair was messed up from rolling around too much while sleeping. Mindy and her both slept in the same clothes they wore the day before since they didn't have anything to change into, and surprisingly it was hard to tell. Unless someone saw them the day before. Which was going to happen since they were going to the Alpha.
"No, it's okay. You just alerted me, that's all, I was going to wake up whenever you did anyway."
"You wouldn't have had to sleep in that shed with me all night if I just faced the facts that I'm paired with the Alpha. Why did I have to run away from him?" She was starting to blame herself.
"You said it before, you were scared, and that's fine. Everyone is scared of something. And I do want to tell you that I would do the same thing you did by running away from my mate, but then I would be lying, because if I ever saw my mate I would run right up to him instead of away."
"I couldn't have said it better myself," I told Mindy.
"Thanks," she replied.
"You haven't found your mate yet?"
"Nope." I could tell Mindy didn't want to talk about it, and neither did I, and Ava could clearly see that too.
"Well, eventually you will find him and hopefully act differently than me, but when I was younger I thought the same thing you did. Actually, it was probably last week that I told myself if I ever met my mate I would run up to him and hug him, but when it happened I didn't know what to do, and running was the best option. I have to admit though some of these mixed feelings I blame on my wolf. When I met my mate the connection was so strong that it was scary, and my wolf wanting to run towards him made me even more scared. And now she is forcing me. My wolf is annoying sometimes."
"Yeah, same as mine," Mindy said
"Hey!" That wasn't very nice."
"I was kidding. Sort of."
Ava and Mindy started walking slower through the woods as they got closer to the main pack area with the houses and closer to where the Alpha lived, but they didn't have to walk much further because there in the middle of a group people in pajamas was the Alpha. Some wolfs were yawning like they just woke up, and others were wide awake or in uniforms. Everyone from the pack looked like they were here, even the patrols.
Which explained why Mindy and Ava hadn't been caught already by patrols, since everyone was here at this pack meeting. No one was looking for them, yet.
"I bet they are talking about me, my dad is standing next to the Alpha. Of course they are talking about me." Ava was talking to herself very fast, but paused and looked over at Mindy. "Please, don't make me go up there now. Can we wait for him to finish speaking, maybe we can hear what he is saying if we get close enough?" It was funny how she was asking Mindy if it was okay, but Mindy nodded her head anyways.
This time they were careful to not go into the crowd and stay behind a house that had a massive trash can next to it that would hopefully disguise most of Ava's scent while the Alpha spoke, because Ava said she didn't want him to see her now and run up to her. She wanted to talk to him without so many people watching.
The Alpha took a big breath in and he looked slightly calmer. He started to speak, "I know it is early for some of you in the morning, so I thank all of you for coming and hearing what I have to say. I have found my mate, but she has ran away from me last night and I am having trouble finding her. Either she ran away or she has been taken, and if she has been taken the person that has her will be punished."
He went on to talk about Ava's physical description and where the last place he saw her was, Ava watched him talk like a little kid watching a TV show. "Now I'm not asking for people to go out of there way to find this girl, because I know we will find her soon, but if you see something. Say something. That is all."
As the crowds started to disperse Ava turned to me and asked, "Did you tell your parents where you are, because if you didn't I think they will be as nervous as how my dad looks like right now." She pointed out who her dad was, and he did look paranoid as he constantly examined the crowed looking for Ava as he followed Mathew back into the pack house.
"I think they are still sleeping, so I will let them sleep for now, and tell them everything when they are fully awake."
I was going to tell Mindy that we couldn't communicate with our parents until we transformed into wolf form, but then I realized that Mindy already knew that. She just lied to Ava.
"Why did you lie?" I asked.
"Ava doesn't need to know that I have not shifted into my Wolf yet, and I don't know want her to know that I haven't. I don't want her to look at me like the people at school do, and I especially don't want her to treat me like I freak."
"I don't think Ava would ever do that to you. She already thinks of you as a friend for helping you, and she's worrying about you getting punished for something she did. And that shows she truly does care about you."
"We just met."
"Friendships form fast."
Mindy didn't respond right away and must have just stared at Ava as thoughtfully as I was. Ava was still staring at the closed door of the pack house like it was an underwater cave that had never been discovered before. And she was ready to go into the cave because Mindy was going with her. They were going to go into the pack house together.
"you are right,Wolff."
"Mindy." A hand was waving in front of the screen trying to get Mindy's attention. "Are you ready to go in now? I think I have finally built up my confidence to go in."
"Yeah, let's go," they keep walking behind houses until they make a quick dash behind the building and to the front door, before opening it, and slamming it behind them.
"Umm...mindy, you should turn around," Ava whispered.
"I am I'm just closing the door." The second that Mindy turned around, she saw it, and so did I. The Alpha was standing right in front of the staircase with one guard, and they weren't facing the other way, they were staring directly at us, waiting for us to say something, but Ava and Mindy were both staying silent. Most likely as shocked as me. These people looked like they had been waiting for us, instead of turning around when the door opened.
There was only one hand motion from the Alpha and the guard came towards us and instead of reaching for both Mindy and Ava, to bring them closer to the Alpha, he just grabbed Mindy's arms. He probably locked them in a grip behind her back by the fighting that Mindy was trying to do, but while looking down she looked more like a worm dancing.
"What are you doing?" I was surprised that it was Ava that asked the question, and not Mindy.
"She kidnapped you! No one could communicate with you, even your father couldn't reach you! Then he asked his pack members if they saw you or talked to you, and no one knew where you were. You had everyone worried. You had me worried."
"I couldn't communicate with my family because my wolf wouldn't let me. She didn't do anything to harm me."
I thought about the gun that Mindy had last night, and what would have happened if we had brought it here. Mindy would be in so much more trouble. I was glad she left it in the shed.
"She hid you from me, and that is a very dangerous thing. You don't want an angry Alpha. You must have saw the way I looked before you showed up at the speech. I didn't know where you were, but I could still smell your scent, and that made me feel a lot better."
"If you knew I was there why didn't you say anything?"
"I knew that you were there, I just didn't know where you were. I knew that you would eventually come out from hiding from me, or someone kidnapped you and was bring you back for an award." He slowly started making his way towards Mindy. "And she definitely kidnapped you, I can see a scratch on the side of your leg, and part of her smell is on your shirt. But she will not be getting an award today, she will be getting punished, just like I said."
The scratched on Ava's leg were because she fell on a tree branch and the smell on her shirt was the blankets and mattress from the shed. That wasn't enough evidence to prove a kidnapping! He was acting a lot different then he was at the party.
Claws elongated from his hand and I started screaming for Mindy to move away, because even if the claw barely touched her I still didn't have the ability to heal her yet.
"I can't say anything, the man has a hand over my mouth," she sounded as freaked out as me.
"Stop!" Ava yelled, but he still wouldn't move away from us. "MATHEW! STOP!" She screamed louder, and this time he moved away and stared at Ava. She had his attention. "All she did was say nice things about you, and yet here you are about to Claw her eyes out, for something she doesn't deserve. She is the one that told me to come back to you last night, but I was too scared to. And now you are giving me a great reason to have not come back at all!"
Mindy and Ava's dad both didn't say anything as they watched as the two mates fought it out themselves.
Mathew look over in my direction. "Mindy?" I hadn't realized it before, but when we walked in his eyes were a darker shade of brown than they originally were, which meant his wolf had taken over his body, but now as they started to change back to the original color I came to the conclusion that when Ava said Mathew's name, Mathew was starting to take control again of his body.
Mindy kind of stumbled forward, and I knew that the guard had finally let go of her arms, and took his hand away from her mouth.
"I'm so sorry, Mindy."
She didn't say anything back, but when she looked over at Ava she saw how mad she was at Mathew and knew she had to say something, she didn't want her new friend to hate her mate because his wolf took over once while his mate went missing. Mindy knew that she wouldn't run away from her mate, but she did know that if her mate got taken away from her. She would be acting the same way Mathew was. I was right, because she said, "You are forgiven."
"How could you have forgiven him so fast, after what he just did to you?" Ava asked, as she was still standing a couple yards away.
"Friend can be forgiven." She walked over to Ava and grabbed her hand and pulled her towards Mathew. Ava hadn't moved one step for the short amount of time they had been here. "And I know you can forgive your mate too. You can forgive him for caring too much about you, if that is such a bad thing."
Ava blushed as Mindy put Ava's hand in Mathews and once they made contact he pulled her in for a huge hug.
I stared at the happy couple and decided it was best if we started heading home now. They might be less worried if we aren't gone that long. I told Mindy my idea and she agreed. We thought that we could go home unnoticed, but Mindy's dad called, "Mindy, can you come here for a minute."
She didn't want to say no to a visiting Alpha and instead walked over to him. "I just wanted to say thank you for bring her back, and if you need anything I'm sure that my family will be glad to help you."
"It was no problem, but can I ask a favor of you to tell Ava that I went back home? She kind of looks preoccupied at the moment." And she looked content too. Ava no longer seemed to look at Mathew as the big scary wolf, and it made me smile knowing that Mindy had helped her.
"Of course."
We started walking back home, for breakfast.
Okay I'm building up the story at the moment, and at this point have basically plotted the whole story, but it can always go in a different direction.
