Mission: Stealth Strike
One of the funniest episodes of Season 2. (Season 2 Episode 9) "Stealth Strike" Enjoy!
It was a slow day on Garel and Kanan and I were having a duel.
You can probably guess who had the upper hand...
Ezra was away with Commander Sato on a rescue mission to retrieve some comrades who have been taken by the Empire.
"Nice moves, Kanan." I commented, swinging my lightsaber.
Kanan quickly raised his weapon and grinned.
"I can say the same about you." Kanan said.
The two of us soon looked over at the Ghost when we heard a familiar voice call out our names. Looking up, we saw a worried-looking Hera.
"Guys, you need to come see this." Hera said, before disappearing into the Ghost.
Deactivating our weapons, we sprinted up the ramp and met up with the others in the common room. On the table was a holographic image of Commander Sato.
"Listen to this." Hera said.
When Hera played the message, Sato's voice was full of concern and distress.
"Phoenix Home to Ghost. We've been pulled out of hyperspace. The Empire..."
Sato's image then became unclear and disoriented, soon disappearing.
"The transmission was jammed. But still, that doesn't make any sense. You can't pull a ship out of hyperspace because you never know exactly where it is. A tractor beam can't get a lock." Hera said.
"That's 'cause this isn't a tractor beam. It's a gravity well," Sabine said.
"A gravity well? What in the world is that?" I asked.
"When I was at the academy, they were developing a new cruiser with gravity well projectors powerful enough to pull a ship out of hyperspace."
Whoa... That's insane...
"Well, it looks like they finished it." Kanan said.
"Chances are they're still testing the system. If they follow Imperial procedure, the testing zone for this type of ship wouldn't be that large. You'll probably find it not far from where we lost contact with Commander Sato." Sabine explained.
Makes sense to me.
"All right, everybody. Gear up. We're goin' out there." Kanan said, standing up and walking over to the door.
Nodding, I got off the wall and followed my Jedi friend. Then, Hera got up and placed a hand on her Jedi shoulder to stop him.
"Not everybody. You, Zelara, and Rex will go find that system. Find that ship, and I bet you find Ezra in the others," Hera said.
"Not Rex! I'll take Zeb or Sabine," Kanan complained.
"Rex's military experience will be invaluable, and he can also impersonate a stormtrooper."
"Right. That's because he is a stormtrooper."
"No, he was a clone trooper."
"Same thing."
"Kanan." I said sternly.
I know the Jedi and clones had a history together, but Kanan can't let bad memories of the past affect his future.
"Kanan, I sent Ezra. This is the only way." Hera said, her face concerned.
Hera's motherly side is honestly my favorite thing about her. It shows how much she cares about the rest of the crew as if they were family.
I turned to Kanan to see his features soften.
"All right. We'll get 'em back. All of them." Kanan said.
Hera nodded silently, her face still looking uncertain.
"You don't need to worry, Hera. Like Kanan said, we'll get 'em back." I reassured.
Before we knew it, Kanan and I were prepping for the mission. Once we were ready, he headed towards the ramp where we saw Rex checking his blaster.
"Look, for the record, this wasn't my idea," Kanan said.
"Just try to act like a professional," Rex said.
"What if you get in there and forget who's side you're on?"
"Kanan." I growled.
"I would never be on their side or wear that junk armor."
As if on cue, Zeb walked up the ramp with a stormtrooper over his shoulder and two in his hands.
"Here are your disguises." he said.
Zeb then dropped the stormtroopers in front of us. Rex bent down and took off one of the stormtroopers' helmets.
"Perfect." Rex groaned.
After a while, the three of us soon put on the armor.
I've never worn stormtrooper armor before...
"This garbage is nothing like clone armor," Rex complained.
"Looks a little tight on you, old man." Kanan chuckled.
"Yeah? Well, at least I know how to wear it."
Rex then proceeded to push down Kanan's shoulder plate.
"How do I look?" I asked.
The bickering men stopped arguing and turned to me. I smiled at the men and showed off the armor.
"At least Zelara knows how to wear this junk armor." Rex said.
Kanan glared at the clone before turning back to me.
"You wear it well. Of course, you look better wearing your cloak than this armor." Kanan said.
"I couldn't agree more." I said.
"Kanan, Rex, Zelara." said a voice behind us.
The three of us turned around and saw Hera with two Phoenix Squadron pilots at her side.
"Once you're in, signal me, and I'll come in with Phoenix Squadron to blast you all out." Hera said.
"How are we getting in anyway?" Kanan asked.
Hearing loud clattering behind us, the three of us turned around to see an Imperial shuttle.
"How is it the Empire lets us keep stealing these things?" Kanan asked.
"Oh. I thought it was the same one we used before." Rex said.
I breathed out and rolled my eyes.
I just hope we can save Ezra and the others...
After a while of prepping, before we knew it, Kanan, Rex, and I were traveling through hyperspace in hopes of finding the gravity well cruiser. Right now, the boys and I were looking at a painting of ourselves.
Sabine's touch, of course...
"I don't know why she does that," Kanan said.
"I believe it's called artistic expression," Rex said.
"Yeah? Well, my expression is wrong. I'm not happy about being on this mission."
"Really? That wasn't clear."
Chopper and I couldn't help but chuckle at their bickering.
"All right, you two. Cool it off. So, what's the plan, Kanan?" I asked.
"Once we board this thing, Chopper will plug in, find out where they have our people, and we get them out of there," Kanan explained.
"We've got to disable this weapon, whatever it is. If the Empire is able to intercept our ships in hyperspace, this rebel movement won't last long." Rex said.
"I hear what you're saying, but remember, this is a rescue mission, first and foremost."
I nodded silently as I stared at the endless blue streaks.
Both points are very true... If they keep bickering like this, we'll never save Ezra and the others.
"We're coming up on Ezra's last known position." Kanan said.
"Let's just hope we can find that ship fast." Rex said.
Once we came out of hyperspace, the ship we've been searching for was there.
"Uh-oh." Kanan said.
Then, the comlink in front of us started beeping.
"Shuttle S257, this is a restricted area." said an Imperial officer.
"Copy that, sir. Boy, are we glad to see you. We have a 157. Repeat, a 157." Rex said.
Kanan, Chopper, and I looked at each other in confusion.
"You are not cleared. This is a 675 test zone and off-limits to you, S257," said the officer.
"Well, if we don't get some help soon, we're gonna have a 3376 on our hands. I don't think you're gonna want to have a 3376 off your starboard side, now, would you, sir?" Rex asked.
"Shuttle S257, requesting your emergency access code."
"Copy that, sir. Priority protocol 7..."
And Rex recited the code like it was nothing.
"This is the kind of stuff I can't stand, protocol nonsense," Kanan groaned.
"I don't know, Kanan. I find it quite interesting. Maybe someday I'll ask Rex if he can teach me about protocols." I said.
"Please don't..."
I chuckled quietly before turning back to Rex.
"Stand by for code check." the officer said.
Then, the comlink beeped once more, and silence fell.
"Cody and I practically invented these emergency protocols back in the Clone War. Trust me, the codes are good." Rex said.
Kanan rolled his eyes with a groan of annoyance. As we drew closer to the ship, the comlink beeped again.
"Copy Shuttle S257. You are clear to proceed on heading 1599 to hanger 11." said the officer.
Kanan and I pulled back and looked at Rex in surprise.
The protocol actually worked.
"Thank you, sir." Rex said.
The comlink beeped again.
"See? They don't suspect a thing." Rex said, putting his hands behind his head.
Our shuttle soon flew into the ship and rested in the hanger.
"Well, all set?" Rex asked, putting on his helmet.
"You bet." I said.
"I guess." Kanan said.
The ramp soon hissed open and the three of us and Chopper walked out.
"This must be just like old times," Kanan said.
"Just follow my lead and you'll be okay." Rex said.
"No, you follow my lead."
I sucked my teeth and let out a groan.
"The both of you will be following my lead." I growled.
Anything to shut you guys up for 2 minutes...
Once we reached the door, the two stormtroopers posted there stopped us.
"Command deck says you need to make your repairs and depart." said one of the troopers.
Kanan walked up to the troopers and waved his fingers in front of them.
"We need to get to maintenance," Kanan said.
"You need to get to maintenance," the trooper repeated.
"We can go on our way."
"You can go on your way."
The troopers stepped to the side and opened the door. The boys, Chopper, and I walked in without causing a ruckus, thankfully.
"Not bad. I've seen better." Rex said.
"Eh, maybe I'll practice on you some time." Kanan said.
"Stop it, you two. Focus. Chopper, plug in, and find Ezra and the crew." I said.
Chopper buzzed and plugged into the port next to us.
"Transferring him to a secure cell?" I asked.
"That means they know who he is. Let's go!" Kanan said.
The four of us then rushed towards a turbo lift. Making sure no one was watching, the four of us got on. Unfortunately, we didn't know what button to press.
"Hurry up. Hurry up. Hit the button." Kanan rushed.
"Which, which button? I don't know where it is." Rex said.
Kanan then let out a frustrated groan. Then, an officer walked in and pressed a button.
"Oh, no." Rex said.
You can say that again Rex...
It was quiet for a while until the officer's voice broke said silence.
"Your armor appears to be a little tight, trooper." the officer said.
Why were you even looking...?
The three of us just chuckled awkwardly.
"I'll tighten your face a little tighter." Rex muttered.
"What was that?" the officer asked.
"Possible hyper-sickness. Uh, I'm taking 565 and 196 here on, um, the 257." Kanan stuttered.
Way to play it cool, Kanan. Way to play it cool...
"The commissary? That's the last place I'd take him." the officer said.
The lift doors soon opened, and the officer walked out.
"Yeah, I'm gonna take you... Commissary..." Rex muttered.
I'm surprised we didn't get found out, but I'm even more surprised that 257 is actually a place...
It took a while to get there, but the lift soon came to a halt and we were on the detention level. The four of us ran out and started searching for Ezra. Once we were around the corner, we saw Ezra. The next thing I knew, all I saw was black.
Okay, what just happened...?
"Come on, Zelara. Wake up!" a familiar voice cried.
I slowly opened my eyes and rubbed my aching head. Looking up, I saw Ezra.
Good thing he's safe.
I looked to my sides and saw Kanan and Rex in the same state as me.
"What just happened?" Kanan asked.
"Oh. Uh... Did you see them? We were so outnumbered. There was a fire fight. A big fire fight, actually. You guys fought great." Ezra said.
I cocked my head to the side in confusion.
"Thanks. All I saw was you." Kanan said.
"Same." I said.
Chopper grunted and showed us a holographic video. It showed Ezra shooting at us. My jaw dropped as I pulled away in disbelief.
"No way..." I said.
"You shot us! I can't believe you shot us!" Kanan exclaimed.
"I mean, you were dressed like stormtroopers." Ezra said.
"Yeah!"
"No duh, Bridger!"
"You shot us." Rex said.
Next thing I knew, Rex let out a hearty laugh as the three of us stood up.
"I set it to stun." Ezra said.
"Yeah, well, you should've used kill," Rex said.
"What?!" Kanan and I asked.
"Well, just in case it wasn't us. I mean..."
"This armor doesn't protect you from anything!" Kanan said.
"Well, I told you."
There they go again...
"Now's not the time. We gotta find Sato and sabotage this ship. They have this gravity weapon thing that... You know all this," Ezra said, cutting his explanation short.
"So, what's your plan, kid?" I asked.
"Well, we should probably split up. I'll take Chopper, and he can get me to the reactor that powers this thing. You three bust out Sato."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. We are not splitting up. Let's get Sato and get out of here." Kanan said.
"The kid's right. We have to destroy this ship." Rex said.
I backed away next to Ezra as the two of them continued to bicker and bark like hostile Lothwolves.
"Do you know how many stormtroopers are heading this way?" Kanan asked.
"It doesn't matter," Rex said.
"Can't afford to separate."
"We have to protect the fleet."
Something in me just snapped. Using the Force, I made Rex's and Kanan's head collide. The two of them staggered backward, rubbing their temples.
"Will you two quit it already? Part of the reason I took this mission was to get a break from this!" Ezra said, pushing past the bickering Jedi and clone.
I can feel the kid's stress and frustration through the Force. He's had it worse since he's always in the crossfire...
"Okay, Chopper and I will meet you at Sato's ship." Ezra said.
With that, the boy and the droid disappeared around the corner. I looked at the two Clone War veterans, both sharing a look of astonishment. They both looked at each other before facing back forward.
"He takes after Hera sometimes." Kanan said.
Breathing out, I knocked my head against my helmet. The three of us put our helmets back on and turned down the opposite corner. After a while, we heard a voice, growing louder as we drew near.
"One of the rebels has escaped. Do not attempt capture. Eliminate the target." said a trooper.
Great. Just what we needed. More hurdles to jump...
"I got this one," Rex said.
"We don't have time for another one of your long-winded bluffs," Kanan said.
"You got a better plan?" I asked.
"Yeah."
"Well, what is it?"
"This!"
Like clockwork, Kanan shot at the stormtrooper without hesitation. The three of us soon took out the other two troopers who failed miserably to stop us.
"So much for stealth." Rex said.
"It's not like they don't know we're here." Kanan said, leaping over the fallen troopers and making a run for it.
"Valid point." I said, copying my friend.
The three of us made it to Sato's cell, but not before bringing a few friends along. Rex, Kanan, and I were having a shoot-off with a couple of stormtroopers who followed us.
"Never expected to make it this far with you as a partner," Kanan said.
"I did." I said.
"You know, you two aren't the first Jedi I've fought beside."
"But probably the last."
When Rex made a shot for a stormtrooper's head, he hit the wall instead. Part of me just wanted to burst into laughter.
Never have I ever seen someone as good as a shooter as Rex miss.
"Wow. You really do shoot like a stormtrooper. Guess I don't have too much to worry about." Kanan said, heading to the cell.
Rex let out a frustrated groan and removed his helmet.
"It's this helmet. I can't see!" Rex complained.
Rex threw the helmet down the hall and it collided with another trooper's helmet. I barked out a laugh before I started shooting again.
There's the accurate Rex I know.
Turning my head to the sound of footsteps, I saw Kanan coming towards us with Sato and the others in tow.
"We don't have time for time. I'll pull, you fire," Kanan said.
"Just like old times." Rex chuckled.
"Settle down, Captain."
Kanan extended his hand and started making the stormtroopers that were hiding down the hall visible. Every trooper Rex and I saw, we blasted him until there was a small pile of motionless troopers. Once the hallway was clear, Rex, Kanan, Sato, the others, and I started making our way to Sato's ship. Suddenly, our comlinks started beeping. Then, Ezra's voice came through.
"Kanan. We're on our way back. Where are you?" Ezra asked.
"We're headed for Sato's ship." Kanan said.
"Roger that."
As we were running, troopers started gaining on us started shooting at us. Since the whole ship knew who we were, Kanan and I had our lightsabers activated.
"There's too many of them!" Kanan exclaimed.
"I'm too old for all this running," Rex groaned, stepping out.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Get those men out of here. They need you two."
Kanan and I looked at Rex in confusion and disbelief.
"I can slow them down. Now go!" Rex said.
"Stop trying to impress me." Kanan said.
"I'm not trying to impress you! I'll see you back at the ship." Rex said.
Rex pushed us away and closed the door that was between us. Kanan and I stared at the door with concern painted across our faces.
"Kanan, come on!" I said, turning my attention back to the matter at hand.
Nodding towards me, Kanan got his head back in the game. Suddenly, my heart started to ache when I heard an agonizing scream.
No...
I looked at Kanan, and it looked like he heard it as well. Turning my head, I saw Ezra and Chopper.
"We sabotaged the reactor. Let's get out of here." Ezra said.
Kanan and I glanced at one another and shared a firm nod.
"Get Sato and his crew to the blockade runner." Kanan said.
"Where are you going?" Ezra asked.
Kanan let out a groan before turning back to the kid.
"I've gotta get my friend." Kanan said.
Following Kanan's lead, we pushed our way through the blockade of stormtroopers.
I'm surprised Kanan called Rex a friend. Well, more glad than surprised. He's finally letting the past be the past.
We soon made it to the control room with unconscious stormtroopers behind us.
"You ready?" I asked.
"Yeah." he said.
Putting on our helmets, the two of us walked in to see Rex with an interrogation droid over his head.
Rex, what did they do to you...?
Looking ahead, I saw an Imperial I've never met or seen before.
He looks like an admiral... He won't be for long by the time we're through with him.
"I am going to terminate you not like a soldier or honored veteran. Oh, no. You will be discarded and forgotten, like an obsolete piece of field equipment. And no one will know or care." said the admiral.
"We will." Kanan and I said.
Removing our helmets, Kanan blasted the interrogation droid.
"Stop them!" the admiral cried.
The stormtroopers wasted no time firing at us. Predicting such a course of an attack, Kanan and I ignited our lightsabers. The two of us were able to deflect the blasts back at the two stormtroopers while Rex dealt with the stormtrooper holding him. The admiral soon ran away into the next room.
Like the Imperial scum that he is...
"Wow. Nice to know you care." Rex said, smiling at Kanan.
"Don't ruin this." Kanan said.
I rolled my eyes with a fond smile.
"All right, you two. Let's get going." I said.
Both men nodded and the three of us started heading towards Sato's ship, taking down any and every stormtrooper in our way. We turned down a corner and took cover from the rapid blaster fire.
"The whole ship's between us and that hanger." Rex said.
Kanan took out his comlink and spoke into it.
"Ezra, tell Sato to take off," Kanan said.
"No way, we're not leaving." Ezra said.
"Just do it. We've got another way out."
Putting away his comlink, the three of us continued down the hall away from the pursuing stormtroopers.
"We've got to get back to the ship," Rex said.
"No time." Kanan said.
"Then how are we getting out of here?"
As we advanced down the winding halls, the answer hit me.
"Escape pods." Rex and I said.
Turning down the hall, the men and I hopped into an escape pod and powered it up. Kanan took the controls, and we ejected from the gravity well ship. Seeing the blockade runner leave the gravity well ship's hanger, we attached to Sato's ship and wasted no time getting into the cockpit.
"Hey, you sabotaged that thing, right?" Kanan asked.
"Of course we did. Right, Chop?" Ezra asked, looking down at the droid.
The droid grunted with suffice.
"Make the jump." Sato said.
Once we entered hyperspace, we were pulled right out of it the second after. The pull was so strong, I had to grab onto the back of one of the pilot's seats for support so I would fall.
"We are caught! Again!" Sato said.
"Chopper! You said you sabotaged it." Ezra said.
Chopper grunted and warbled his reply.
"What do you mean, 'wait for it'? Wait for what?" Ezra asked.
Looking out the windshield, I saw two light cruisers floating towards the gravity well ship.
"Chopper's rigged their own weapon against them. It's pulling everything in." Ezra said.
"Including us!" Kanan cried.
"Not good!" I cried.
As soon as one of the cruisers smashed into the gravity well ship, it started to rip the hull apart. Everyone watched as the cruiser rammed into the command deck and exploded upon contact.
"Commander, we're free!" cried one of the pilots.
Wasting no time, the pilots directed the ship away from the gravity well ship, watching it explode in the distance. Everyone on the ship began to cheer.
Good riddance...
I turned my head to the sound of Chopper grunting and spinning his dome with glee.
"Oh, now you're the big hero?" Ezra asked.
Chopper grunted with suffice as he waved his mechanical arms around.
"It was a team effort." Ezra said, leaning on the droid's dome.
Chopper grunted, removing Ezra's arm off him. Looking down at the kid, the two of us shared a fond smile and shook our heads in amusement.
Chopper can be such a pain, but he always pulls through in the end.
After a while, Commander Sato turned around with a small grin.
"Gentlemen, Zelara, my crew and I owe you our gratitude. All four of you." Sato said.
"Thank you, Commander Sato." I said.
"Thanks, Commander. You know, when you two aren't fighting each other, you fight really well together," Ezra said, looking at Kanan and Rex.
"I couldn't agree more, kid." I said.
"Jedi and clones. Now I get it."
Chopper chuckled and followed Ezra as they walked away. Sighing, I turned to the two Clone War veterans.
"Kids. You know, crazy ideas." Kanan said.
I chuckled and shook my head fondly.
"Yeah. You know... Thanks." Rex said.
"Yeah. Yeah. I know." Kanan said.
Rolling my eyes, I turned to the clone.
"Anytime, Captain." I said smiling.
"Well, I guess there's nothing more to say about it." Rex said, turning around to take his leave.
I looked up at Kanan who had let out a silent sigh.
"Hey, Rex." Kanan said.
The clone turned around to the sound of his name. That's when Kanan gave Rex a regal salute. Rex smiled and did the same. Breathing out with a smile on my face, I joined the veterans in the salute.
The mission was certainly intense, but it was a success, nonetheless. In the end, Kanan and Rex finally got along. Seeing them salute each other made this mission worth every breath.
Sorry for the long update... School started for me over here... I still hope you enjoyed this part, nonetheless. Next will be a surprise. Suggestions are forever open and appreciated. May the Force be with You!
