Meeting the Rebels
Here's how I met Rebels. Enjoy!
"I'm going out to do my rounds, Atlas." I said.
Atlas nodded silently. I put on my brown hood and went to the nearby city of Lothal.
It looked peaceful, but these people are suffering, and I want to do everything I can to help them get through this.
Then, I heard blasters off into the distance. I walked closer to the sound until I saw what looked like a freighter ship. Beyond the ship, I saw a teenage boy with raven blue hair, a man with brown hair, and a droid. The droid was holding up a stormtrooper helmet and was moving around, whereas the raven-haired boy was firing at it. I leaned against a crate, watching the scene before me play out.
Something doesn't... feel right... Why am I feeling the Force radiating off the man? He can't be what I think he is... right...?
I blinked back to reality and continued to watch them. Then, the boy stopped firing at the command of the man.
"Good target practice, Ezra. You're getting the hang of it." the man said.
"Thanks, Kanan. So, when are we going to start lightsaber practice?" the boy asked.
Lightsaber practice...?
"Soon, Ezra. Be patient. If you want to become a Jedi, a key trait about them is that they were patient and focused." the man said.
"Okay, we both know that you are NOT focused and NOT patient at all, Kanan." the boy teased.
The man rolled his eyes and laughed. I then felt their emotions through the Force.
So, they're both Force wielders? Incredible...
Then, the ramp to the ship opened and a green Twe'lik, a Lasat, and a teenage girl with blue and gold hair walked out.
No Force signatures from them... but out of all them, they're all good.
I then felt a presence behind me. I turned around and saw Atlas. I smiled as he down next to me.
"They... are the rebellion..." he said.
"They are?" I asked.
Atlas nodded. I turned my attention back to the group and tilted my head to the side.
So, they're the rebellion the Empire is after...
I straightened up and brushed the dust off my robe.
"Well, I better go meet them." I said.
Then, Atlas shook his head.
"Not now..." he said.
"Okay... then, when?" I asked.
"Tonight... I can see... stormtroopers... looking for them..."
"You just want to make a grand entrance."
Atlas looked away and smiled a little. I laughed and shook my head.
"Okay, fine. You and the pack are the masters of stealth, and you taught me everything there is to know about stealth." I said.
Atlas stuck out his chest and nodded.
"And you taught me how to make a grand entrance." I added.
Atlas playfully glared at me and growled. I smiled and climbed on his back. I looked back at the group's smiling faces and found myself smiling as well. Soon, Atlas was flying through the plains back to the rest of the pack.
Because of Atlas, I'm going to make a grand entrance. Do I mind? Nope...
Night soon fell and I raced to where the fight between the stormtroopers and the Rebels was taking place. It was at an old, abandoned factory.
Should have known the Empire would hide a secret base on Lothal...
The Rebels were greatly outnumbered. I soon saw the man and the boy from this morning in the front lines. They were deflecting every blast with their matching blue lightsabers.
A Master and his Padawan, fighting side by side...
"There's too many of them! We need to fall back!" the Twe'lik cried.
"We can make it!" the boy cried.
Guess I should start helping now...
I held out my hand and using the Force, the stormtroopers began to float. I came out of hiding and stepped in front of the Rebels. They looked at me with bewildered faces.
"Thought I should help." I said.
I balled my hand into a fist and the stormtroopers straightened up.
"It's her! The Wolf Jedi!" one of the stormtroopers cried.
I glared at the stormtroopers and then released the stormtroopers from the air. Their armor clanged as they hit the ground.
"Shoot her!" a stormtrooper cried.
They soon fired their blasters at me. I took out my lightsaber and deflected every blast at lightning speed. When they ceased fire, I looked up to Lothal's moons and howled. Few seconds later, everyone heard growling. The Rebels turned around and saw Atlas and the other Loth-wolves walking up to me.
"Loth-wolves..." the boy said in awe.
I looked up at Atlas and smiled inwardly. Atlas nodded. I looked at the stunned stormtroopers and smiled.
"Sick 'em..." I said.
The Loth-wolves growled and barked and ran past me, heading towards the stormtroopers. They fired their blasters at them, but they were to no avail. A few minutes later, Atlas and the other wolves drove away the remaining stormtroopers. Atlas looked down at me and nodded. I nodded back. I turned back to the Rebels and couldn't help but laugh at their shocked faces.
"Um... Thanks for the help." the boy said.
"Of course. I'd do anything for this planet, and the people who live on it." I said.
The boy smiled at what I said. The Twe'lik walked up to me and bowed her head slightly.
"I'm Hera. Thanks for the help back there." she said.
"I'm Sabine." the girl said.
"Kanan." the man said.
"Name's Zeb." said the Lasat.
"And I'm Ezra." the boy said.
"Name's Zelara June, but you can call me Z, Zel, or Zela. Nice to meet you all." I said.
Atlas walked up next to me and groaned.
"This is Atlas, my most faithful and loyal companion, and friend." I said.
Atlas bowed his head.
"The stormtroopers... they called you the Wolf Jedi. Is that true?" Ezra asked.
I pulled my hood off my head and nodded.
"Indeed, I am. I'm just as wanted by Empire as you guys." I said.
Then, Kanan walked up to me.
He looks mean, but gentle in a way.
"Nice to meet another Jedi." he said, extending his hand.
I smiled and grasped his hand.
"Likewise." I said.
The other Lothwolves walked up to me and groaned.
"You guys go on ahead. Atlas and I will be right behind you." I said.
They nodded and disappeared into the night as they flew across the plains.
"Now I see why you're called the Wolf Jedi." Zeb said.
I smiled and nodded. Then, Atlas spoke.
"Light... in Lothal's darkness..." he said.
"It can talk?!" Ezra asked, surprised.
"Yes. Lothwolves are one of the very few creatures that are Force-sensitive. These magnificent creatures are deeply connected with Force." I said.
I placed my hand on Atlas' nose connected with him, feeling the steady pounding of his heart. I turned back to face the Rebels and smiled. For some reason, I began to focus on Kanan's Force signature. My eyes widened.
"I know who you are..." I said.
"We only just met. You don't know who I am." Kanan scoffed.
I sighed and took a step closer to him.
"Kanan Jarrus, Padawan of Master Depa Billaba. A survivor of Order 66." I said.
Nothing but silence filled the air. As if by instinct, I raised my lightsaber to block Kanan's.
"How do you know this!?" Kanan growled.
"It's called studying." I said.
Our lightsabers soon collided again.
"Where in the galaxy did you find that information!?" Kanan asked.
"From my mother's notebook, Heidi June. It was given to her by her master, Nova Kry'ila." I said.
Kanan stepped back and deactivated his lightsaber.
"Your mother was Master Kry'ila's Padawan?" he asked.
I nodded silently.
"I know every master that ever lived; Yoda, Luminara, Moone, Billaba, and many more." I said.
"Who was your master?" Ezra asked.
I became silent.
"I do not like to speak of him." I said firmly.
"Sorry..."
I turned back to the boy and sighed.
"No, I'M sorry. I didn't mean to say it like that." I said.
"It's okay. I've been there." Sabine said.
I smiled at her remark.
"Well, why don't you come with us to the Ghost? I can give you a tour." Hera said.
"The Ghost?" I asked.
"It's our ship name and our home." Ezra said.
I looked up at Atlas and he nodded.
"Go... with them... We will keep... Lothal safe..." he said.
I nodded and ran my hand down his muzzle. With a final nod, he raced across the plains, soon disappearing into the darkness. I turned to Hera and smiled.
"Well, lead the way." I said.
I followed the Rebels out onto the plains until we came across the freighter ship, I saw this morning. The ramp opened and the droid I saw rolled out. It beeped and warbled quite loudly.
"This is Chopper, a good friend of ours. He's part of our crew." Hera said.
"Chopper can be... unpredictable at times, but he is very loyal and trustworthy." Ezra said.
Chopper warbled and buzzed at the compliment. I bent down and patted the droid's dome.
"He's so cute. I'm Zelara. Nice to meet you, Chopper." I said.
Chopper beeped excitedly and spun his dome when he was called cute. We all laughed as we walked into the Ghost.
It was a lot bigger on the inside...
"Chopper, did you get the thrusters up and running again?" Hera asked.
Chopper warbled a "no."
"Well get to it. We're heading to Carva for a pickup tomorrow afternoon." Hera instructed.
Chopper buzzed a sigh and rolled away. Hera turned to me and sighed.
"Sorry, Chop's a lazy and slow worker," she said.
"But you can't say he doesn't get the job done, though." Sabine said.
"True that."
I huffed out a laugh.
These guys aren't so bad... I really like them.
Hera soon showed me around the Ghost. It was a nice ship.
I can see why it's their home...
"Hey Zel, can I talk to you?" Kanan asked.
"Sure. Thanks for the tour, Hera." I said.
She nodded and the Twe'lik walked away. Kanan and I sat in the common room and an awkward silence fell between us.
"Look, about what happened when you told me about my master... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have reacted like that." Kanan said.
"It's okay, I understand. I react the same way." I said.
We both chuckled.
"But really though. How do you know Master Nova Kry'ila?" Kanan asked.
"I only know her because of my mother's notebook." I said.
I pulled it out of my cloak pocket and put it on the table. I opened it up to the page about Master Kry'ila.
"She fought in Order 66, just like you and Billaba." I said.
I soon turned to the page about Kanan's master.
"Depa Billaba served on the Jedi High Council during the final years of the Jedi Order. Her techniques and forms are amazing." I commented, pointing at a sketch of her.
"She really was..." Kanan said.
I looked at him and saw a hint of sadness in his eyes. I placed a hand on his arm and smiled softly.
"I know she's smiling down on you from the stars, and I know she is so proud of you." I said.
Kanan looked at me and smiled.
"Thanks, Zel." he said.
I nodded and smiled. Then, Ezra walked into the room.
"Hey guys, what are you talking about?" he asked.
"The past. Nothing too exciting." Kanan said.
"Oh stop. The past is filled with history and amazing stories to tell." I said.
Ezra sat next to me and turned to me.
"Can you tell me a Jedi story of the past?" he asked.
"I wasn't around during the Clone Wars or Order 66, so there's really nothing I can tell you, young Padawan." I said.
"How about YOUR Jedi story? How did you become a Jedi, Zel?"
I was taken by surprise.
Just thinking about it makes me quiver...
I took a deep breath and turned to the boy.
"I was a Padawan for 10 years, training and studying with a friend of... my parents..." I trailed off.
Ezra and Kanan looked at each other with concern.
"What happened?" Ezra asked.
"They were killed by an Inquisitor. My mother was teaching me how to use the Force, and that's when the Inquisitor showed up. He said that the Force was extraordinarily strong with me, and he wanted to take me and train me to be like him. When my parents refused... he struck them down... right in front of me..." I said.
"Whoa..." Kanan sighed.
"I grabbed my mother's lightsaber and ran... I then bumped into a friend of my parents; Master Crowvern. I soon became his Padawan, but then learned a dark secret about him..."
I took a deep breath before continuing.
"He was a servant of evil... a servant of the Dark Side... I taught myself how to see if someone is good or bad with the Force, and you know the Force never lies... When I confronted him, he tried to kill me, of course. Luckily, I escaped and came here to Lothal. That's how I met the Lothwolves and became the Wolf Jedi." I said.
It was silent for a good while.
"Wow... I'm sorry you had such a rough life, Zela." Ezra said.
"It's okay. It's good to learn from the past. What doesn't kill me, just makes me stronger." I said.
Ezra gave a small smile. I put the notebook back in my cloak pocket and patted it.
"How did you get your lightsaber?" Ezra asked.
"It's my mother's. That and the notebook are the last things I have of her," I said.
"Speaking of lightsabers, you want to help me train Ezra tomorrow morning?" Kanan asked.
"Sure, I would love to."
"Awesome! Now I have two Jedi Masters!"
Kanan and I looked at one another and laughed. Chopper rolled in, beeping and buzzing.
"What do you mean I'm going to kill myself using my lightsaber?" Ezra asked.
Chopper laughed and rolled off.
"Chopper! Get back here, you metal menace!" Ezra cried, running after him.
I looked at Kanan and smiled slightly.
"Does that sort of thing happen a lot?" I asked.
"Majority of the time." Kanan answered casually.
Must happen a lot if he's so calm about it...
"Well, I better get going. The wolves are probably wondering where I'm at." I said.
When I took a step forward, I heard a voice in my head.
"Stay... with them... Join them..." said the voice.
Atlas...
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yes... Join... the Rebels... Protect... and save... the galaxy... put an end... to the Empire's rule..." he said.
"I'll make you proud, Atlas."
"You already have..."
Everything soon became silent. I turned around and smiled at Kanan.
"Guess I'm staying with you guys," I said.
"Really? But, what about the wolves?" Kanan asked.
"Atlas had a vision that I would join you guys to protect Lothal and the galaxy."
"Well, if the vision came from a Lothwolf, I can't question it."
I nodded in agreement. Kanan then extended a hand.
"Welcome to the team." he said.
"Glad to be on it." I said, grasping his hand.
Wonder what tomorrow will bring...
Hey everyone! Hope you're enjoying this so far. In the next part, Zelara and Kanan will be training Ezra with the techniques their masters showed them. A heated argument soon finds its way to surface itself. May the Force be With You!
