Jedi Mind Over Matter

This is just a random little skit I came up with. Hope you find it enjoyable!

"No way! Absolutely not!" I said.

"Yes, way!" Ezra said.

It started off as a normal day on Atollon until Ezra said something highly unlikely.

"Ezra, I've mastered almost every Force ability there is and came up with my own! What makes you think you're better at the Jedi mind trick than me?" I questioned.

"Well, for one, I don't get ticked off that easily." Ezra commented.

I shot ice-cold glares at my Padawan, allowing my eyes to shift from brown to ice blue.

"Case in point." Ezra said, wearing a smug eating grin.

"Case denied. At least I don't whine and complain when something doesn't go my way." I said, my eyes turning back to brown.

Ezra glared at me with his striking blue eyes. His annoyed frown soon curved upwards into a competitive grin.

"All right. How about a little challenge?" Ezra asked.

The kid's words made me raise a curious brow.

"What kind of challenge are we talking here?" I asked.

"A Jedi mind trick challenge. Said ability only works on the simple-minded, so why not try and use it on those who are Force-sensitive like us?" Ezra suggested.

I pulled back and let the corners of my lips curve into a grin.

Interesting...

"I like that. Makes it a real challenge since the Force-sensitives here on this base are far from simple-minded. So, who are the test-dummies?" I asked

"Since Kayla and Nerezza are here, why not them?" Ezra suggested.

"All right, and if we end up in a tie, Kanan is the tiebreaker."

Ezra's grin couldn't get more mischievous.

"I like the way you think. Loser has to admit that the winner is better at the Jedi mind trick than them. Deal?" Ezra asked, extending his hand.

Plastering on a competitive grin, I grasp my Padawan's hand and shook it.

"Deal." I said.

Breaking our handshake, the two of us went to look for Nerezza.

"Oh, and another thing. We absolutely cannot tell Nerezza, Kayla, and Kanan about what we're doing," Ezra said.

"Like that wasn't obvious. What about Hera, Sabine, Zeb, Chopper?" I asked.

"Nah. Knowing Chopper, he's going to tell on us."

The thought made the two of us chuckle. Once we reached Kayla's ship, we saw said Jedi's Padawan, polishing her cortosis daggers.

"Ladies first." Ezra said, nudging my shoulder with his.

Rolling my eyes at my Padawan, I walked up to my friend's apprentice.

"Hey, Nerezza." I called put.

The Umbaran turned around to the sound of her name and she smiled when she saw me.

"Hey, June. What's up?" Nerezza asked.

"Oh, nothing much. Just training with my Padawan." I said.

Nerezza nodded and stayed silent. I took her silence as my cue to continue.

"Weird question, but can I see your lightsaber for a second?" I asked.

The Umbaran cocked her head to the side in confusion.

"Sure..." Nerezza said, reaching for her weapon.

Nerezza soon handed her lightsaber over to me. Taking the weapon from her hand, I admired the White Wing Saber.

"I see you've been using this weapon quite a lot." I said.

"Only to slice away the dread and sorrow for a brighter and better future for the galaxy." Nerezza said.

I nodded at the Umbaran with a fond smile.

Already sounding like a Jedi...

I soon activated the lightsaber, watching the white blade appear. Holding the lightsaber up in front of my face, I turned to Nerezza and smiled. I then held out a hand towards her. Nerezza looked at me weird until she straightened up and reached for daggers. Twirling one of her daggers, she sliced it through the white blade.

Yes...!

Checking to see if the weapon worked, I wasn't at all surprised when the white blade didn't appear. Lowering my hand, Nerezza blinked her eyes and shook her head.

"What just happened?" she asked.

"Nothing, what do you mean?" I asked.

"The last thing I remember was you asking to see my lightsaber."

I smiled and nodded at my friend's Padawan.

"Yeah. I can tell that you've become very fluent with it," I said, handing Nerezza her weapon back.

"Yes, I have. Maybe one day we can train together." Nerezza said, taking her lightsaber.

"I would like that. Well, I must be on my way."

Waving goodbye to my friend, I walked back over to my Padawan with a smug eating grin.

"Beat that, kid." I said.

"With pleasure." Ezra said, walking over to Nerezza.

I watched as my apprentice struck up a conversation with Nerezza before he attempted the Jedi mind trick. I watched Ezra wave his hand in front of Nerezza and saw that whatever he told her to do didn't work. She just looked at him as if he grew three heads.

Knew he wouldn't get it...

Nerezza soon waved goodbye and left walked away from Ezra. I walked up to my Padawan and started clapping slowly.

"What a wonderful display of the Jedi mind trick, dear apprentice." I said, sarcasm poisoning my words.

Ezra glared at me before letting out a disappointed sigh.

"Zelara 1, Ezra 0. So, who's next?" I asked.

"Kayla. I know where she is. Follow me." Ezra said, beginning to walk.

Nodding, I started following him.

Kayla's gonna be a little tougher. She has a very strong connection to Force; stronger than mine. Being that she is more experienced than me, it's not much of a surprise. She could probably do the Jedi mind trick on me if she could.

Once we reached our destination, we saw Kayla sorting crates with AP-5.

"Wanna go first?" I asked.

"Thought you'd never ask. Hey, Kayla!" Ezra said, walking over to my friend.

I watched my apprentice from afar as he struck up a conversation with my friend. After a while, Ezra waved his hand in front of Kayla's face. Kayla raised a brow before her posture straightened. My eyes widened in surprise.

No way...

Kayla soon shook her head and asked Ezra the same question Nerezza asked me. Ezra just waved goodbye and walked back over to me.

"You're up." Ezra said.

Glaring smugly at the kid, I walked over to Kayla and greeted her.

"Hey Z. What have you been up to?" Kayla asked.

When I opened my mouth to explain, Kayla covered it with her gloved hand.

"Before you say anything, I know what you and Ezra are doing." She said.

My eyes widened as Kayla removed her hand.

"You do?" I asked.

"Yeah. You practically got him beat. But if you really wanna take the win, use the Jedi mind trick on him." Kayla said.

My surprised expression was frozen on my face. My gaped mouth soon formed into a toothy grin. I nodded at my friend and bowed my head to thank her.

It's not breaking the rules if the person figures out what you're doing... I'll let Ezra have the win on this one.

Waving goodbye to Kayla, I walked over to Ezra with a fake disappointed look.

"Guess we're tied." I said.

"You know what that means, right?" Ezra asked.

I breathed out before facing my Padawan with a competitive grin adoring my features.

"Kanan." Ezra and I said.

The two of us nodded before we went searching for Kanan.

Now, Kanan is a tough nut to crack. Unlike Kayla who's strongly connected with the Force, Kanan is DEEPLY connected. For a man who is blind, he doesn't need his eyes to know his opponent's moves. I know for a fact that neither of us is going to be able to use the Jedi mind trick on him, so when we both fail, I can use it on Ezra and make him admit defeat. There's no rule that says I can't do that...

Once we arrived at the Ghost, we saw Kanan meditating on the cliff next to said starship.

"Padawan's first." I said.

Ezra grinned and walked over to his Master. Sitting next to him, the two of them began conversing. Holding a hand out in front of Kanan, I watched as Ezra tried to use the Jedi mind trick on his Master. As expected, nothing happened.

Not a total surprise...

Ezra soon stood up and took his leave.

"Good luck." Ezra said as he walked up to me.

Nodding to my Padawan, I walked over to Kanan and sat down next to him.

"Lovely day for meditating, wouldn't you agree?" I asked.

"Yes. Very peaceful." Kanan said.

After meditating with Kanan for about 3 minutes, I held my hand out to him and attempted the Jedi mind trick on him. He wasn't fazed in the slightest. Taking my leave, I walked over to Ezra with a defeated look on my face.

"Guess it's a tie," Ezra said.

"I must disagree with that notion." I said.

"How come?"

Sporting a cocky grin, I held out my hand in front of Ezra.

"Zelara is better at the Jedi mind trick than me." I said.

I watched as Ezra straightened up and looked ahead.

"Zelara is better at the Jedi mind trick than me." Ezra parroted.

Chuckling to myself, I dropped my hand and watched as Ezra came back to his senses.

"What just happened?" he asked.

"I won." I said.

"What? How?"

I chuckled at my apprentice and patted his shoulder.

"I'll tell you when you're older." I joked, walking away from him.

Walking back to the Ghost, I couldn't wipe the stupid grin that stained my face.

Told him I was better...
