Chapter Two

I wish you were still just a human to me.
I wish you weren't like my favorite book.
I don't want to look at you, and see poetry.
I don't want you to break my fictional heart.
-k.p.k

"Elle!" My dad's deep voice comes through the door, I pause my music. "There's a guy here for you."

"Like a guy guy, or a police officer guy?" I ask. "Because you've tricked me like this before."

"A guy guy. That was once and it's not like you got caught. I raised you better than that." He rolls his eyes, smirking slightly. "Besides, that was funny."

"It wasn't funny." I mutter, climbing out of bed. "Who is it?"

"That tall Asher guy you like, did you know he doesn't know your name. He calls you blue." Dad points out, smirking down to me.

I smirk back up at him, "It's like that for a reason. I trust you didn't tell him."

"Course not," He winks. "Invite him in for dinner, we're ordering pizza."

I nod, but chances are he won't want to stay but it's not like I'd tell Dad that -he'd ask himself and Asher would probably be too intimidated to say no.

Walking to the door, I swing it open only to notice a second too late that Luci is bolting straight towards me.

Yelping as the dog slams into my bag, rather then the sight of Asher's sexiness, I tumble forward only to connect with Asher's sexiness -also known as a chest.

"Lucifer!" My dad snaps from the living room. "Come 'mere asshole."

Thankfully the husky takes off again, but I hear Mom scold my dad for calling her 'baby' a asshole.

He's not wrong though.

I smirk up at Asher, overly aware of his hands on my back keeping me in place against his chest, obviously startled by me slamming into him. "Damn, a day of suspension and you're already getting desperate Gold. Got something you want to confess?" I tease him.

He drops his hold almost immediate, shaking his head with a small breath out. "I confess, that you're really warm."

I hate heat.

Ripping myself from him hastily, my eyes flicker to the scar but that stops nothing to stop my smirk. "Ah, so what  you're saying is that I'm hot."

He shrugs with a smile. "Use whatever word you want."

I lead him to my room, about to tell him he can sit but then the nice guy's smile falters, something that rarely happens. "What happened after Link made us leave? Did you get hurt? You're the only one that got punished."

"Bullshit." I growl darkly, crossing my arms. "I shouldn't have been punished at all. I was defending you Gold. This is absolute bullshit. I let the guy punch me, then kicked his ass. I guess the fight sort of ended there, after they realize no matter what they did I wouldn't react and they'd get hurt more. Bloody nose though, my mom wasn't too happy."

"He actually hit you?" Asher asks, his voice deeper then usual.

I raise a eyebrow, questioning his obvious anger.

Do friends always get mad when someone hits the other.

Are we friends?

"Yeah, but Masons' practically harmless. Didn't even make me flinch."

"What makes you so fearless?" He asks, voice as quiet as always.

I grin at him, "Don't be fooled. I'm scared of everything, unlike you, I know how to hide it."

"I'm not scared," He says, a fake confession. "Not of you."

I take one step towards him with a wide smirk on my face.

He swallows, obviously struggling not to step back. I laugh at this, knowing that I'm making him uncomfortable and he's trying to prove a useless point.

"Relax Gold, I'm not going to jump on you." The relief on his face was instant, until I added, "Not until you ask me to anyway."

Asher gulps, instantly stepping back.

I giggle again, covering my mouth with my fist.

If only he knew I'm aware a person like him could never love me.

A loud whine makes my look over to the door, with a quick look back to Asher I step away from his chest and open my door.

Luci runs straight past me and tackles Asher straight onto my bed.

I wanted to do that.

Dog.

Tsk.

"Blue!" He yells. "Get it off me."

"Lucifer, get down asshole." I tell him. The husky instantly springs off him, laying on the edge of my bed and looking at me through guilty blue eyes. "Good boy."

"What is that, that thing?" Asher breathes, scooting away from him.

"Half wolf." I answer simply, grinning at the way his mint green eyes widen in fear. "Beautiful, isn't he."

"Y-yeah." He stammers, making me realize he's honestly uncomfortable.

"Luci, go get the Devil." My mom trained Luci, so he knows me as baby wolf, Dad as Devil and Xander as Ruckus. He knows our names too, just not as well -none the less he takes off to go find my dad.

"Hey Blue?" Asher says while looking around my room. I hum in reply, following his gaze around the three walls of bookshelves. "What is it about reading that you like so much?"

"I get to escape," I answer simply, I expect a small smile and a nod but instead, I see my usually sunshiny boy frown, so I keep going thinking he's just confused. "In that moment, with my nose in a book, me and the words are the only two things that exist."

But that only makes it worse.

I don't question why, instead I stand in front of him. "Why'd you come?"

"I wanted to make sure you were okay and say thanks." He explains, licking across his lips.

"Oh -why?"

"Because," He gulps. "You could have really been hurt, and you got suspended covering for me and Link. I think you deserve a thanks for that."

"In that case you're welcome." I reply with a wink, then I start smirking. "Wanna stay for pizza and a movie?"

Gold's head snaps up, looking startled. "Would you're parent's be okay with that? Would your dad?"

"My dad's the one that told me to invite you." I laugh. "So yeah. Got anyone you need to ask before you stay?"

He pauses for a heartbreaking moment before shaking his head. "I live alone."

"Unexpected, but okay." He breaths out in relief as I don't press for answers as my raging inner voice screams at me. "In that case, you're staying."

"But are you sure it's okay?"

"Gold just shut up and come on." I say, tugging at him arm. He shuffles awkwardly in front of me and while walking into the living room I'm so focused on Asher's sexy back muscles that I don't notice the dog toy in front of me.

Not until I've already tripped over and face planted into him.

He turned at my loud squeak, making me hit him straight in the abdomen.

"Shit," Asher cusses, taking me by surprise as he stumbles, hands wrapped so tightly around my waist that he takes me with him as he trips over Luci and lands harshly at the floor.

His grip only tightens on me, making me stay upright -just straddling him as he's obviously winded from the contact.

That's what you get for just taking a whole other person with you.

"Damn Gold, making me fall for you already?" I ask, smirking.

His ice cold hands fall off me, and the blistering heat of my body returns. "Ugh, get off me." I stand, snickering at his dazed look.

"That was the most entertaining thing I've seen all day." My dad says, a smirk of his one as he looks at Asher. "You okay kid?"

"Yeah." Gold says, sending him a smile as he stands.

My mom gasps at his head, her nose scrunching up. I'm not the only one surprised by that then, good to know. "Are you afraid when you fall? Because there's such a long way to go."

"Uh...not really?" The nice guy says as politely as he can, utterly confused. "It goes pretty fast." Mom huffs, slightly unsatisfied with the answer. "I swear you can trip over your own shadow." Asher mutters this, and I know I wasn't supposed to hear.

"My shadow is a tricky bastard, she like to make me fall down to her level." I tell him with a grin, my teeth flashing out to my bottom lip that his eyes follow the movement.

"Come on baby wolf, give him a break." Mom tells me. "See what you made our daughter, Wolf?"

"Well Carter," My dad snorts. "You're the one that named her."

"Wolf?" Asher asks. "Is that your last name?"

"Uh...no?"

"Yes."

"What?

Me, my mom and Dad all say at once.

I lie, of course Mom doesn't hesitate to answer, but my stupid Dad responds to our last name like Gold was calling him personally.

"Should I call you Wolf now, instead of blue?" Asher continues on, blinking innocently at me. "Even if I don't know your real name?"

"You didn't tell him your name?" Mom exclaims. "Baby wolf."

"Wolf is right..." Gold murmurs, eyes once again focused on my teeth. I raise my lips more, showing him just how sharp they really are -he surprises me by blushing and looking away.

"We're not that wolf like." Me and Dad say in sync, my mom having agreed with Asher.

Both my mom and him scoff, rolling their eyes.

"Blue you're so dense when it comes to being self aware, that it hurts." Asher says, smiling boyishly at me.

I smirk and snort slightly, ignoring how my heart picks up and say, "Oh no. You've insulted me. What can I do now, now that I'm self aware and injured so? I'm mentally scarred."

"It'll haunt her for years and years." Dad continues, grinning.

"Both of you, sit down and shut up." Mom snaps, then giggles up to Asher when the bell rings. "That's the pizza, I hope you like meat lovers or extra cheese." I think you can guess what kind of people would load meat onto things -us Wolf's. "On second thought, can you get plates and napkin's E- I mean, uh, baby wolf."

I breath out in relief from my spot on the couch as she doesn't say my name. "But you told me to sit down."

"And shut up." She cocks a eyebrow at me, hand on her hip. "But I don't see you doing that either, plates, napkins, now."

Grumbling under my breath I slip away to the living room, seeing Dad let Asher sit in my large comfortable chair with a growing smirk.

Parents.

Tsk.

Soon I bring the plates out, sending a glare to my dad who pretends not to notice what he did.

I growl under my breath when I realize the napkins are all out and the others are on the kitchens top shelf, and I would have to get them.

I'm already on the counter, reaching for them when a deep voice sounds out from behind me. "You could have just asked me to get them for you."

Asher.

Of course.

"Yeah, and I doubt you would." I snap back, frustrated that I'm only slightly taller then him right now.

Shortness.

Tsk.

"Of course." He smiles,I gape at him as he simply reaches up and plucks the napkins down. "Do you need help down?"

This time I gasp and glare at him. "How dare you insult the vertically challenged!"

Gold only laughs at me. "Okay then."

A second later, as I look at the straight, long- -for me- -drop to the floor I regret my decision and let out a defeated sigh. "Yeah...please help me."

With a boyish grin Asher wraps a arm around my hip, using his only free one to lower me to the ground before stepping back. "There ya go Munchkin." He pats my head as if I'm a dog before turning back into the living room.

"You said that like I was a pet!" I complain, dashing after the nice guy with much too long legs.

"You're a Wolf," He replies. "Close enough."

"Amen." My mom says, giving a high five to Gold which makes both mine and Dad's jaw drop.

So rude.
