Chapter Seventeen

Books were safer than other people anyway.
-Neil Gaiman

"Stop messing with me, I'm tired." Asher mumbles, turning on his side.

I pout and rest my chin on his hip, so in his half curled state I can watch his handsome face. "But I really like your sleep voice, and you don't remember anything right now."

"That's because it's three am." He huffs, then tenses slightly.

I stop fiddling with the end of his shirt in confusion. "You okay there?"

"You're afraid to go to sleep -aren't you?" My nice boy says, and his sleepy voice makes me grin though his words make me want to frown.

"How'd you figure."

"You'd never keep me awake like this unless you needed something and you don't ask, so what is  it?"

"Oh, um..." I cringe slightly. "You know how we just lay in bed, like half a foot apart and when I wake up, you're already up and gone?"

"Yeah, you're sleepy." He mutters, mint green eyes hooded. "Why?"

"B-because I just want you to hold me, but I'm afraid to make you too warm because you hate heat and I always touch you first and I feel like if I randomly started hugging you in the middle of the night you'd get super freaked out but I can feel it. I can feel that when I go to s-sleep tonight I'll wake up screaming. You stop me from waking up screaming, but not when we're six inches apart." I lift my head off him, sitting up and away from me as I suddenly find it hard to look him in the eyes. "I'm sorry that I'm so needy and I didn't realize I was purposely keeping you up until you mentioned it, I'll stop."

"Why didn't you say something sooner?" He scolds me, gently nudging my chin up so I can meet his heartbreaking eyes. "Come here."

Suddenly I'm the flustered one, and shy away from his hands.

I hate heat.

"Y-you don't like feeling warm." I blurt. "My mom calls my skin hell fire and I don't feel like burning you. P-please just-"

Large, cold arms are sliding around my waist before I can even finish speaking.

Asher tucks my head under his chin and presses me into him, relaxing deep into the bed.

I suck in a breath, my hands slowly splaying onto his bare chest.

He doesn't flinch away, or squirm in any way, so I let myself relax too.

"It seems," Gold whispers softly in my ear. "That you are the exception."

"I am?" I yawn, scrunching up my nose as a small squeak escapes me.

"Yeah," Asher nods like he just figured out something he's been asking himself for years. "Being that good looking must be tiring."

"Then you must be exhausted." I wink, watching as he blushes furiously then buries his head into my hair. "Sleepy?"

"Yeah," He says. "Actually let me this time."

I laugh, but relax completely against him anyway.

I'm woken up by a fluttering kiss, making me smile into my pillow -which I quickly realize is actually hard range of abs.

Muscles.

Tsk.

"Morning." I croak, snuggling closer to him.

My arms are splayed over his chest while my legs managed to get sandwiched between his larger ones, his ice drawing my heat away, leaving me a comfortable cool compared to the usual hell fire.

"Morning Blue." Asher mumbles, adding a yawn a second later. "You don't have morning breath."

I smirk lightly, lifting my head up to meet mint green eyes. "It runs in the family, but that just means you'll be able to kiss me whenever you want."

The nice guy blushes lightly, reaching up to brush my crazy curls from my face. "Good to know."

With a small groan, because now I'm flushing, I move off him and lay my head back down on a actual pillow and start to try to sleep again.

"Promise me you won't forget me." Gold says, I stiffen slightly before rolling over in bed.

I know it was a surprise when I'm suddenly straddling him, but I could care less.

"Don't make me promise that." His eyes drop down, looking hurt. "People only ask you to remember them if they're planning to leave," I explain. "And if you're planning to leave please don't ask me to remember it."

"Oh." His hands come up to grab my thighs, fingertips dancing gently along the exposed skin. "Did you know you're the most beautiful person I have ever seen?"

My cheeks burn but a deep grin, my sharp teeth exposed as I feel my dimples pop out. They normally only show up if I smile, which is rare, but sometimes when I grin wide enough someone will get a flash of the two dimples my dad gave me.

"Whoa, you have dimples!" Asher exclaims, hands now clasped to my cheeks. "How do you just keep getting better and better?"

"I'm a gift that just keeps giving." I reply, winking.

"Yeah you are."

Giggling I lean down to kiss him, enjoying the feeling of his cold lips against mine.

Asher smiles boyishly as he eyes my bright red cheeks. "Don't worry," He whispers in my ear. "I won't tell anyone the big bad wolf is a puppy in disguise."

I growl, cutting off the sly smile with a kiss.

Unsurprisingly I fell back asleep, which made him fall back asleep but now, around noon we've both stumbled silently into the kitchen to get our daily wake-me-up drinks.

It got me thinking, the thing that my stupid boyfriend asked of me in his room.

"Hey Gold." I say, catching his attention over his mug of hot chocolate. He can't drink coffee. "If you ever wake up one day, and you suddenly don't love me anymore. Tell me over our morning kiss."

"We'll have morning kisses?" The groggy nice guy asks, in his sleeping state only managing to catch that and blush slightly.

The sight almost made me squeal about how cute his is.

How does one boy manage to be so cute, hot, sexy and nice all at the same time?

"I don't deserve you." I say, pushing the tawny hair away from his eyes.

"How dare you..." He mutters, sleepy green eyes regard me with a scold.

"I don't, you're so amazing and caring and nice. Someone like me doesn't deserve someone like you." I press on.

Asher's cold hand lazily move out and hold my waist gently, pulling me to him before he clinks our mugs together.

"Cheers," He unintentionally drawls. "To deserving someone as amazing as ourselves."

"You're so fucking cheesy." I grumble, then shift into a real smile a second later. "I like it."

"I like you." Asher blurts, in a second I burst out laughing and end up having to wipe tears from my eyes.

"You're terrible at this." I giggle, shoving him in the gut. "Leave the flirting to me."

The golden boy pouts, but ends up shrugging it off anyway.

That's my Gold.

Terrible flirting, ice and all.

I raise an eyebrow as Asher bursts into my bedroom-  -literally- -he slammed my window open and fell through.

"Now that has got to feel worse than it looks," I say, watching as he blinks from his spot on the ground.

"Link shoved me through." He explains, giving me a small smile. Him and his smiles. "He'll be here in a minute, fell out of the tree."

I almost laugh at how much it seems like he doesn't care, but then again I'm talking to the nice guy so Lincoln must be okay.

"Cool, but why?" I ask, hoping this is a one-off thing and not something friends do to each other.

Now I really wish I had other friends.

This better not be a typical boyfriend thing either.

"It's not important?" Gold says, voice raising towards the end. "Just whoever asks, say we've been here for an hour."

I shrug, pretty willing to do whatever he says.

Asher manages to scramble to his feet, standing on my left when Link heaves himself through, leaves in his hair and a branch attached to his shirt. "Attacking the wildlife, Weasley?"

This earns me a sharp glare, but I could care less.

Standing I open the door, making both their eyes widen in alarm. "Hey Mom, the two guys in my room have been here for an hour, so if someone comes to the door that's the story. Say we've been playing monopoly or something."

Both of them pale, probably thinking I'm more insane than they already do but then-

"Okay, just remember to get out the game." She calls back, not caring at all.

Their jaws drop and I grin. "So, now that you both are spending the night let's do something tomorrow."

"Like what?"

"Haunted house." I pause, sticking my head out the door again. "Mom can we go do something stupid in a haunted house?"

"Don't get arrested or end up in the hospital and you can do anything you'd like." She replies back.

Suddenly my dad barges down the hall, holding his hand. "Princess help! I CUT MY MIDDLE FINGER. That's like a epic 'fuck you' from God. I'm bleeding!" Dad yelps, I face plant into the door frame while Link snickers behind me, making the overgrown man child turn around and frown at me. "I'm bleeding, stop laughing."

I shrug, glaring at him. "The elder gods have demanded tribute." Then I slam the door.

Asher raises a eye brow at me, clearly asking me what the hell that was.

"When I got my first period I freaked out and told my parents, my dad said that and even though my mom smacked him upside the head I still hold it against him every time he starts bleeding." I explain, smirking as the nice guy blushes slightly due to period talk. "So, haunted house, yeah?"

"Yeah."

"I don't like the evil look you have in your eye at this." Lincoln tells me, eyeing the sharp teeth shown through my smirk.

"I don't like the way you look either."

"But I always look like this." He says, frowning.

"Exactly." I reply, expecting it when one of my pillows are suddenly launched at my head.

Totally worth it.

And I know the scariest haunted house in town -thank god we live in such a weird place.

Haunted houses and amusement parks are a year-round thing, only closed due to weather and they make tons a money.

It's why there's so many job opportunities here.

It's a good placed to be raised.
