The Final Trial
I opened the bottle and inside was another note.
"This is your final trial
You've come so far
With your conscientiousness tested
You'll finally see who you are
The location for this trial
Is a place you've always roamed
Stand in the middle of the room
And you'll finally be home."
"I think I know where we have to go," I said.
"Where?" Spencer asked.
"It could just be my imagination, but I think we're supposed to go back home."
"Oh... I get it. We're going back to place where the Wizard Trials began."
I smiled and nodded. Then, I turned to Crolick.
"Well, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you, Master of Darkness," I said winking.
"The pleasure was all mine, Courtney." he said.
"Please, call me Allegra from now on."
He smiled and nodded.
"I'll see you guys at the trial site." Crolick said.
He then disappeared in a puff of smoke. Spencer and I turned to each other and smiled. We walked over the dead Noxhound and walked out the mausoleum. Then, the vampires we fought before popped out of their graves again. I jumped in front of Spencer and glared at them, but then, they all moved aside. Spencer and I had a clear way to the cemetery's gates. I took Spencer's hand and began to walk. As we walked, the vampires bowed. I looked at Spencer with a confused look. He returned the same expression. Then, a vampire walked up to us. I tightened my grip on Spencer's hand as it walked up to me. It then grabbed my hand and looked at me in the eyes.
"Thank you..." it said.
My eyes widened and I smiled at the vampire. It nodded and stepped out of our way. Spencer and I walked out of Grimwood Cemetery with the sun starting to rise. I turned around and saw the vampires going back into their graves. I smiled and turned back to the rising sun.
"So how are we going to get back home?" Spencer asked.
"Remember, I have connections." I said.
I whistled and in an instant, Jet and Helios flew down. I hopped on Jet and Spencer hopped on Helios.
"I'll direct you guys to where you need to go." I told them.
Helios and Jet nodded. They took to the skies and flew off. I directed the two creatures back to our house the whole way. We passed Nimbus Forest, then Wandering Grove, then Flare Blaze Island, and then across the Aquarian Ocean. Jet and Helios landed on the shore and Spencer and I got off.
"Thanks for the ride, you two." I said.
They bowed their heads and took to the skies in a heartbeat. With the rising sun at our backs, we raced back home. We soon made it back home to our little house. I opened the door and we walked inside. Spencer and I walked in the middle of the room and looked around.
"Everything looks the same to me." Spencer said.
"Maybe we weren't supposed to come here..." I said.
Then, the room started shifting and wavering. I took Spencer's hand as we were being teleported. A bright light flashed, and I quickly shielded my brother. When the light died down, I looked up and saw a castle. Sandstone walls with blue turrets. I looked down at Spencer and saw that he was in new clothing. He wore a black shirt and a long, golden yellow vest. He had white pants and black, leather boots.
"Look at you, Spencer!" I said.
He looked down and admired himself. He looked up at me and his face broke into a grin.
"Look at me? Look at you!" he said.
I looked down and laughed. My hair was actually up in a ponytail in corn rolls. I was wearing a white shirt with a long, brown vest over it. I wore dark turquoise pants and black, leather boots.
"We look amazing." I said.
"Yeah, but where are we?" Spencer asked.
I looked at the archway and it was in some kind of language.
"Hey, I know that language." I said.
Spencer looked up at the archway and raised a brow.
"What is it?" he asked.
"That's Goapina. It's a very ancient language spoken in legends." I said.
"What does it say?"
I read each word carefully.
Not only is Goapina a hard language to speak, it's even harder to read, and it's been a while since I studied on Goapinan language.
"Got it," I said.
"Well, what does it say?" Spencer asked.
"Welcome to the Kingdom of Elvarna."
"Kingdom...? Maybe you were a princess back then?"
"Maybe? Come on, our trial awaits."
We walked through the kingdom gates and was welcomed in by a lot of friendly smiles. The town was very lively. It felt like a city. The creatures here got along with the wizards here. Then, a man saw me and his face broke into a grin.
"Hey everyone! Princess Allegra is back!" he shouted.
Everyone heard and gathered around Spencer and I. I turned to Spencer and flashed a grin. He did the same.
"Step aside, everyone." said a voice.
Immediately, everyone dispersed. Walking up to us was Rokai.
"Hey Rokai, it's been a while." I said.
"It certainly has. Welcome home, Allegra." he said.
"Home?"
My eyes widened as I looked up at the castle.
"You mean... that castle is my home?" I asked.
"But of course. You are a princess," Rokai said.
"That's awesome, Courtney." Spencer said.
"Come, come. The others are waiting."
Rokai turned around and started walking, with us close behind. We walked up a stone staircase and through the castle doors. The castle was huge. The carpet was velvet and the pillars were quartz. The walls were snow white with large windows, allowing the sun to shine through. At the end of the carpet were my brothers and sisters I met at my other trials. I smiled and ran up to them. They opened their arms and accepted my hug.
"Welcome home, Allegra..." they said.
I pulled away and smiled.
"So Rokai. When does this trial begin?" I asked.
"Right now." he said.
He summoned his scepter and tapped it on the floor. Then, we were teleported to the bowels of the castle.
"You are to escape the castle before one of your siblings get you." Rokai said.
"And if any of us tags you, you lose." Crolick said.
"If you didn't know, conscientiousness means using the best of your ability." Clara said.
"If it's okay with you, just for the trial, we need to lock you in a cell, that way you can get the feel of really wanting to escape." Yukiya said.
"If it's for the trial, then it's okay with me, but only if Spencer is doing this trial with me." I said.
"Deal." Jedidiah said.
Spencer and I walked in the cell and Rokai closed it.
"I enchanted the lock that way no magic can break through." Rokai said.
"Fair enough." I said.
"Alright, good luck, you guys." Farcilia said.
Spencer and I nodded. Rokai tapped his scepter and they all disappeared.
"Okay, how are we going to get out of here? We can't use magic on the lock because it's enchanted." Spencer said.
"We have to use the best of our abilities, Spence." I said.
I looked at the cell and an idea clicked.
"Stand back, Spencer," I said.
"Why?" he asked.
"You'll see."
I looked at my hands and clenched them into fists. Then, they became red hot. I took hold of two bars and they began to melt. I grabbed another bar and that one melted. I shook my hands and the heat diminished. I looked at Spencer and gestured my head for him to follow me. We ducked under the bars and looked around.
"Now what? We can't just walk out of here casually, we'll get caught." Spencer said.
"Well, they have to see us to catch us." I said.
I took Spencer's hand and raised my other hand over our heads.
"Hidden Prism!" I said.
White particles rained down on us, and we then disappeared.
"Whoa, an invisibility spell. Great idea. They won't even see us," Spencer said.
"Or hear us. This spell allows us to be invisible to the eyes and mute to the ears," I explained.
"Double whoa! How long does it last?"
"A good while."
"Well, let's not wait a second more. Come on!"
We sprinted towards the stairs and we were out of the dungeon. We soon realized that we were in a living room. I looked around and saw Yukiya and Stella.
"Come on." I said.
We walked by them without either of them noticing. We walked along a long hallway until we heard another set of footsteps. We looked ahead and saw Crolick. In a puff of smoke, he turned into a Noxhound.
He's trying to smell me out.
Spencer and I walked by him and started running.
"These guys are going to stop at nothing to try and stop me." I said.
"Then they're just going to have to try harder." Spencer said.
I nodded in agreement. We soon made it to a library. Books upon books were stacked on high shelves. It was completely empty.
To be honest, I have no idea where we're going.
We walked out the library and found ourselves in back in the foyer. Then, we started flickering.
Oh no... The invisibility spell is wearing off!
Next minute, we were visible. Spencer and I ran and hid behind a pillar. I peaked my head around the pillar to see who was there. Clara, Jedidiah, and Farcilia were there. Then, we heard a door open. I looked over and saw Stella, Crolick, and Yukiya walk in. I leaned in closer and listened in on there conversation.
"Any sign of them?" Clara asked.
"No, but they are around. I just came back from the dungeon. They weren't there." Crolick said.
"They can't be too far. With the six of us guarding the foyer, there's no way they'll be able to escape before time runs out." Stella said.
I leaned my head on the pillar and sighed.
"Now what?" Spencer asked.
I racked my brain to come up with ideas, but only one popped up.
"Okay, I going to need you to cause a distraction," I said.
"What kind of distraction?" he asked.
"I'm going to turn you into a creature. You walk out there and distract them while I get out of here."
"Like your idea, but why don't we do it together? We started these trials together, seems only fitting to finish it together."
I smiled and nodded. I raised a hand over our heads and thought of what we should be. Then, I recited the spell.
"Transformo!" I whispered.
Pink particles rained down on us and swirled around us like a tornado. Next minute, we realized that we weren't ourselves anymore, we were fairy foxes. I was royal navy blue and Spencer was dark emerald green. We walked out from behind the pillar and whined. The others heard us and turned around.
"Aw... Where did you two come from?" Clara asked, walking up to us.
"They must've snuck in and got lost in the castle." Jedidiah said.
We whined again. Clara knealed down and petted me. Spencer walked away and scratched on the doors.
"They must want to get out." Farcilia said.
"I'll open the door for them." Yukiya said.
As he was walking towards the door, Spencer and I began to follow him.
We're going to make it!
Then, Crolick grabbed his shoulder and stopped him.
"You guys really are gullible," Crolick said.
"What do you mean?" Stella asked.
"Ugh... What color are these fairy foxes?"
The others looked at me and Spencer, and back at Crolick.
"Blue and green, why?" Clara asked.
"Not just blue and green, royal navy blue and dark emerald green. Who do we know loves colors like those?" Crolick asked.
Then, it hit them.
Why do you have to be so smart, Crolick!?
I gestured Spencer to back away. Then, the six of them turned to us.
"After them!" Stella cried.
Spencer and I jumped out of the way when Yukiya and Clara lunged at us. We then sprinted out of reach.
"They're getting away! Come on!" Farcilia cried.
Spencer and I ran for our lives as the others were hot on our trails. Spencer gave me a "What do we do?" look. I looked ahead and saw that the hallway split in two. I gestured Spencer to go right. He nodded in understanding. When the fork came up, we split. My siblings stopped and looked down both paths.
"We'll go after Spencer." the girls said.
"We'll go after Allegra." the boys said.
The boys went left and the girls went right. I looked behind me and saw Jedidiah, Yukiya, and Crolick catching up with me. I turned the next corner and ducked into a room. I hid in the door's shadow as I watched the boys run down the hall. I darted out the room and backtracked my way back to the foyer. I flipped in the air and turned back into my normal self. Then, I saw Spencer running next to me.
"If we can just make it to the door, we'll be home free!" Spencer said.
"We just have to make it there without getting caught." I said.
Believe it or not, this is actually really fun.
We soon made it to the foyer and sprinted to the door. I looked over my shoulder and saw Clara, Crolick, and Stella gaining on us. I looked ahead and stopped short. Blocking our exit were Jedidiah, Yukiya, and Farcilia. Spencer and I were completely surrounded.
"No where left to run, I'm afraid." Yukiya said.
They came closer and closer. I looked around at them, trying to come up with an idea. I looked at Spencer and he looked back at me with his idea face. I smiled and nodded. He took my hand and took out his wand. Then, he recited a spell.
"Saltar Rise!" he said.
He pointed his wand at the ground, and the two of us were propelled in the air.
"Now, Courtney!" he cried.
"Wingoreous!" I said.
Light blue particles rained down on us and we were soon hovering in the air.
"Oh no you don't!" Farcilia said.
With the slightest of ease, she rose in the air. She lunged at us, but we dodged her just in time. The two of us flew towards the door, and before we crashed into it, I quickly recited a ghost spell.
"Ghoul Faze!" I cried.
We then became transparent and went through the door. We landed outside the door and I snapped away the ghost spell. The doors flew open and standing there were my smiling siblings.
"You guys did it!" Stella said.
"Awesome work, you two." Jedidiah said.
"Thanks you guys," I said.
"Honestly, I had fun. It felt like we were playing Castle Escape, our favorite game, Courtney." Spencer said.
"Now that you mention it, it did feel like we were playing Castle Escape."
"I had fun, too." Farcilia said.
"Same." Crolick and Yukiya said.
"Me too." Clara said.
We all laughed. Then, Rokai appeared.
"Congratulations Allegra! I am happy and honored to say that you have completed the Wizard Trials!" he said.
"Thanks Rokai, but I didn't do it alone. I had my little brother to help me." I said, slinging my arm around Spencer.
He looked up at me and smiled.
"I wouldn't be able to complete them if it wasn't for him... Thanks Spencer... for everything." I said.
"Anything for you, Courtney..." he said.
Rokai and the others smiled. Then we heard screaming from the town. We turned around and saw Noxhounds terrorizing the town.
"Noxhounds?" Rokai asked.
We all turned to Crolick.
"That's not me, I swear!" he said.
We turned back to the Noxhounds and saw that the sky was getting darker.
Oh no... If it's dark, the Noxhounds will become much stronger.
Then, we heard ominous laughter. We looked closer and saw three figures walking in front of the Noxhounds. They had black hair and hazel eyes. Their skin was light and fair.
"No... It can't be them..." Rokai said.
"Who?" I asked.
"The Black Lake Sisters..."
