The Earth Trial

I took the bottle and opened it. Inside was yet another note.

"The Wandering Woods
Is like an endless maze
But with your confidence
It'll be nothing but a phase
The Crystal Gardenia flower
Sparkles brightly in the sun
To find it, go to where
butterflies have fun."

"Looks like we're meeting Yukiya next," Spencer said.

"Yeah. Well, it's been real, Jedidiah. See you next time," I said.

"Right back at you, sis. Later, Spencer," Jedidiah said.

"Later man."

"How do we get to the Wandering Woods from here?"

"Don't worry about that. I've got a friend who can fly you there. You might remember him, Courtney."

Fly?

Jedidiah whistled and we heard a mighty roar. We looked up and saw a dragon coming towards us. It was black and blood red with yellow eyes. It landed in front of us and roared.

"Helios! Good to see you again." Jedidiah said.

The name hit me like a powerful wave.

"You remember Allegra, right?" Jedidiah asked.

Helios walked up to me and nuzzled his cheek against mine.

"I remember him. I remember I would always ride him across Meldaria, hours on end. It's so good to see you again, Helios." I said, hugging him.

Helios purred. I soon hopped on him and helped Spencer up on Helios as well.

"See you later, Jedidiah," I said.

"I'll be waiting for you at your last trial with the others, Courtney." he said.

"Call me Allegra. We're family, after all."

Jedidiah smiled and nodded.

"Wandering Woods, Helios!" I cried.

Helios roared and took to the skies. I looked back and saw Jedidiah waving goodbye at us.

"Do you have an answer yet?" Spencer asked.

"No... wait, are you going to ask me that every time we clear a trial?" I asked.

"Yup. I want you to know your answer instead of making one up on the spot when Rokai asks you the question again.

"Well... don't stop. It'll keep me motivated and make me more confident and comfortable with my answer."

Spencer smiled and nodded.

Spencer is always looking out for me, and I'm eternally grateful for that...

It was midday when we arrived at Wandering Woods. It was far off to the west of Flare Blaze Island and east of the Aquarian Ocean. Helios landed at the entrance, and Spencer and I got off.

"Thanks for the ride, Helios." I said, stroking his chin.

Helios purred to the touch.

"Back to Flare Blaze Island, bud." I said.

Helios licked my cheek and disappeared into the skies in a heartbeat. When Helios was gone, Spencer and I turned to the Wandering Woods. It was nothing but vegetation. Trees as tall as houses stood strong and proud.

"Come on." I said, walking in.

Spencer nodded and quickly caught up with me. The sun's rays were so warm, it felt like a loving hug. It's only been a few minutes, but it felt like we were walking in the same direction for hours.

"Geez... I'm beat, and this sun isn't making it any better," Spencer whined.

"I agree," I said, wiping sweat from my brow.

"Let's take a break..."

"I hear that."

We walked up to a tree and sat down on the soft grass. We sighed with content.

"Think you can cast a wind spell to cool us down, sis?" Spencer asked.

"I was just thinking the same." I said.

I held my hand up and recited a wind spell.

"Sanatio Aura!" I said.

I gentle breeze was released from my hand and surrounded us. We again signed with content.

"That's much better." we said in sync.

We looked at each other in surprise and burst out laughing.

"Well, the note wasn't kidding when it said that this place was maze," Spencer said.

"But it said it will be nothing but a phase if we use our confidence," I said.

"Where does it say we need to find this Crystal Gardenia flower?"

"Where butterflies have fun. Whatever that means."

The two of us sat in silence for a while, thinking about where we need to go.

Where butterflies go to have fun... where in the world is that?

Then, the answer hit me.

"A flower field!" I cried out.

Spencer turned to me like I was crazy.

"What?" he asked.

"A flower field. In every flower field in Meldaria, butterflies of every kind are there," I explained.

"Yeah, you're right! So that means there's a Crystal Gardenia flower field somewhere in Wandering Woods."

"My thoughts exactly, little brother."

We got up and brushed off the dirt and grass. Then, I took out my dagger and carved a mark on the tree.

The dagger I have belonged to my mother, and she gave it to me in case I couldn't use my magic. It has a red stone on the hand grip, and the blade is made out of the strongest metal in Meldaria, diamond titanium.

"What are you doing?" Spencer asked.

"Making a marker. That way, we know if we back tracked or not." I said.

"Smart."

I put my dagger away and turned to Spencer.

"Let's go." I said, already walking.

Spencer caught up with me and started walking at my side.

"So we need to find the flower field the Crystal Gardenia flower is resting, right?" Spencer asked.

"That's right, little brother," I said.

"Wait... on the note. What was the second part?"

"It's like an endless maze, but why do you... oh no..."

I put my hands on my hips, bowed my head, and sighed deeply.

"We're in a maze... for goodness sake..." Spencer said.

"But don't worry. If our confidence is being tested, we need to be confident in the decisions we make going throughout this maze." I said.

Spencer turned to me and nodded.

"You're right. Let's keep pushing forward." he said.

I smiled and agreed with my brother.

It didn't feel like a maze, but it actually WAS one.

It felt like hours have passed, and we couldn't find the flower field.

"What are we going to do?" Spencer asked.

I tapped my foot in thought until an idea struck me.

"I know. I can use a flying spell and see if I can find the flower field from above," I said.

"Good idea, Courtney." Spencer said.

"Stay here. I'll come back and get you when I found it."

Spencer nodded. I raised my hand over my head and recited the spell.

"Wingoreous!" I said.

Light blue particles rained down on me and I started to levitate.

"I'll come and get you when I find the flower field. Stay put." I said sternly.

Spencer nodded firmly and I smiled. I gained control of the spell and flew above the trees. When I was over them, the trees were literally in the form of a winding maze. I flew in many directions for a few minutes, and then I finally saw it. The flower field. I soon realized that it wasn't just a field of flowers, it was a valley. I turned around and headed back to Spencer. I soon found him, resting on a tree.

"Spencer!" I called out.

He looked up and ran up to me as I came down.

"Find it?" he asked.

"I wouldn't have came back if I didn't," I said.

"Well, where is it?"

"Follow me."

I rose in the air and made my way back to the flower field with Spencer below me. I soon saw the flower valley again and landed on the ground. I turned around to see Spencer coming out of the maze. He stood at my side and looked out at the valley.

It feels like we're in a painting.

Flowers of every kind rested here. From roses to violets, lilies to tulips, and many more. We also noticed that there were beautiful butterflies, dancing in the gentle breeze. As I scanned the area, I saw something sparkle in the sun. I walked into the valley with Spencer close behind. When we reached the flower, we saw that it was in the form of a daffodil, but its petals were crystal clear, with small rainbows coming off of them.

The Crystal Gardenia flower...

"Is this...?" Spencer asked.

"It is... the Crystal Gardenia flower. We found it!" I said.

When I touched the bright green stem, I felt a lot of powerful earth magic radiating off of it. I carefully plucked it out of the ground and held it up to the sun. It sparkled and dazzled like a beautiful light show. I then snapped it away.

"You're doing amazing so far, little sister." said a voice behind us.

Spencer and I turned around in surprise and saw a man with green skin, dark brown hair, and brown eyes matching his hair. He also had bright green leaves on his arms and legs

Yukiya.

"Hey Yukiya... it's been a while." I said.

He walked up to me and gave me hug. His leaves tickled my neck a little, but I didn't care. I smiled and hugged him back. When we parted, a wide grin was plastered on Yukiya's face.

"Half way there. You're doing amazing, Allegra." he said.

"Actually, Yukiya..." I began.

I soon told him the same thing I told Clara and Jedediah. He sighed and nodded.

"I understand. Remember, the rest of us are here to help you along the way. Whatever, however, and whenever, we'll be there," Yukiya said, patting my head.

"Why do I feel like you were the one who always looked out for me?" I asked.

"All of your siblings did, but I looked out for you the most."

Our eyes locked and we smiled at each other.

"Thanks, Yukiya." I said.

Yukiya caressed my cheek and placed a kiss on my forehead.

"Before you guys go, I found this on the way." Yukiya said, holding up a small sky blue bottle.

Trial four... let's do this...

"UGH! CAN'T WE STRIKE NOW!?"

"I agree. She's collecting some of the most powerful magical objects in Meldaria, and she doesn't even know that, needless to say she's knows how to use them... sister, now is the time to strike! If she gets all of the Ancient Relics..."

"That's what I'm hoping for... she'll be absolutely clueless, hopeless, and useless on how to use the relics and how to stop us..."
