Chapter 8 part 4

The sun had already risen for some time when Igor woke up still hugging his fiancee. Carefully, he let her go and got up. He cleaned the cabin, revived the fire in the fireplace and prepared coffee that, with the smell that emanated, ended up waking up the girl who turned and looked at him, smiling. Shortly after, Igor returned the smile, sitting on the bed and kissing her. He moved his face away and raised a hand, extending his traditional rose.

"Hi, honey," he said. "Did you sleep well?"

"The best night's sleep in a long time, Igor," Eduarda replied, happy. "This coffee smell is irresistible."

"Then try to get up slowly that I help you."

Eduarda got up and, assisted by the groom, sat down in the rocking chair, grumbling:

"It's very bad to feel like this," she gave a weak laugh and continued. "Especially me, who never got sick in my life, except for blindness."

"It happens, my love," he extended a cup of coffee. "The toxin they inoculated you was too violent. In a few days you will be fine, gain your weight back and I will take care of you for the rest of your life. Funny, but how did you recover your sight?"

"Not even the doctors know, honey. One beautiful day, I woke up and saw everything. Many people called it a miracle, but I try not to think too much about it."

"Curious," commented the groom, thoughtful.

Eduarda began to drink the coffee slowly, feeling the heat entering her stomach. She wondered what everything would be like in the future, with so many changes that had occurred. She raised her face to Igor and asked, very seriously:

"What will happen next and how will our life be?"

"First, you need to get well so that we can have mobility; then, I intend to take you to a safe place."

"And where would that be?"

"Another world, where there are beings so powerful that even the strongest of wizards have to bow to them."

"And then?"

"Then it's obvious: I intend to destroy this creature that I released by ignorance."

"And then?" she asked again, worried.

"Then, how?" Igor laughed. "Then we live happily ever after, as we planned, don't you think?"

"Will it?" She wrinkled her forehead. "You are so different from me, with these powers and abilities. In a few years, you will start to get sick of our life—"

"For Godess sake, Eduarda." Igor smiled, gentle. "I would never get sick of you. If you remember, I lived very well with you and without using my gifts."

"But you can do all this, visit different worlds—"

"None of this makes sense to me without you, angel." Igor squeezed her hand between his. "Once Ezequiel said that we wizards have a very close connection, being rare for a couple to separate and I believe that. And we can live wherever you want."

Eduarda smiled and looked at him from top to bottom, saying:

"And these charming prince clothes?" she gave a little laugh, satisfied with his look. "Are they part of the package? Do all wizards dress like this?"

"Wizards wear different clothes yes, some prefer tunics and we guardians or guardian apprentices have capes whose colors define our position before society. The swords, however, only the warrior wizards can carry. They are the representation of the ancient druid warriors."

"Very cool and you are too beautiful." She laughed again. "If you go to college like this, I will be very upset with the girls, not to mention Anita from work. They already get on top of you normally, imagine drop-dead gorgeous like this. I'll need to walk armed!"

Igor laughed and commented:

"I only have eyes for you, don't worry. Besides, on Earth I wear discreet clothes."

"So that's why you always wore light clothes, naughty. Now I understand." She laughed, shaking her head. "You said it was out of habit."

"I tried to tell you three times that night, sweetie." It was the groom's turn to laugh. "I even changed my clothes in front of you, but you didn't even care!"

After coffee, the young wizard took his fiancee to the street to get some sun and sat her in the porch chair. Then he went out to look for something, finding it without difficulty and returning with a piece of root of a special type, large and hard.

Eduarda watched the groom, who had sat next to her and remained still, staring at the root while it underwent a slow metamorphosis, taking the shape of a small staff for the girl to lean on. The rod now had about a meter and, at the top, there was a wooden sphere where the hand would fit in a shell. When it was finished, it was so smooth that it seemed to have been turned.

Igor looked at the final result, satisfied. Then, with his free hand, he radiated so much heat over the sphere at the end that it ended up carbonized and then turned the carbon into diamond.

Once ready, he handed it to her, smiling:

"Ready, now you will have some support and you will not depend only on me," he said, winking. "This staff is impregnated with my energy and maybe you can do something new with it, but first, I want you to relax that I will do something to you."

"Yay," She laughed, mischievous and grabbing the staff, "cool!"

"Stop the nonsense that you are too weak." He could not resist and accompanied the laughter. "I also want that, but on another occasion, when you are well. Now I just want to awaken certain dormant abilities in you."

"What abilities?" Her curiosity was aroused.

"I think you are a latent or dormant sorceress," explained the groom, "and I want to awaken that, so hold this staff, relax and close your eyes."

Eduarda obeyed and he took her head gently, leaving his thumbs on the source. She felt very comfortable and emanated from him a feeling of peace and love very great. Slowly, she lost consciousness, lulled by the feeling transmitted. When she opened her eyes, he was with his face close to hers and kissed her, then moved away.

"I slept!" she stated as a matter of fact. "And it must have been for a long time because the sun walked a good bit!"

"It was not quite that, but something similar and that gave you an extra rest," commented Igor. "Look at the staff."

Eduarda turned her gaze to the object she still held and noticed that the diamond shone with force. She widened her eyes.

"Am I doing this !?" she asked, amazed. "Come on, is this thing a real diamond?"

Igor nodded affirmatively and she thought it was great, smiling a lot.

"But now save your energies. To turn off the light, just wish. Try to visualize the staff opaque. It is loaded with a lot of my strength and will facilitate, as if it amplified your dormant powers, now not so much."

She obeyed and the staff went out. Laughing, she said:

"I think I'll like this," she laughed a little more. "Very much. Now I begin to understand how certain things happened, the chairs of those four idiots in the Living Center, for example, and other little things."

"Eduarda, my angel, never let anyone know this because until today there is fear and distrust about us," warned Igor, very serious and worried. "That's enough for the damage I did in Santa Sofia because of you."

"How long did it take you to learn?" she asked.

"I discovered my powers with only one year," explained the groom, shrugging his shoulders. "My parents were wizards of the fourth level and recognized my potential right away. I spent most of my life in the Citadel, being taught."

"I don't understand any of this," she said, frowning, a gesture that he was in love with. "You should teach me from the beginning, but first explain to me why we are like this. I never believed in these things of magic!"

"Well, my love, according to the most notorious scientists of high modern magic, our powers are a consequence of the brain having less idle sectors. In other words, our minds are more consciously used, about five to ten percent, but there is no consensus on that."

"So are we smarter?" Eduarda asked. "Actually, I don't feel smarter than a lot of people in college."

"Well, the activated sectors of the brain do not always have to be linked to intelligence. Our magic comes from the ability to shape matter and energy at our will. But you are very smart yes, sweetie."

"This smells a little like quantum physics, doesn't it?" Eduarda widened her eyes.

"Of course, pure quantum mechanics." Igor laughed. "It is the ability to shape and metamorphose subatomic particles, using for that the waves of thought, which allows us to create everything we do. Remember that waves are also particles, although devoid of mass.

"Okay, and these worlds, the Citadel, what are they?"

In Porto Alegre, a police car pulled up in front of a house. Two policemen got out and knocked on the door. Shortly after, someone opened it and they showed their badges.

"Police, we want to talk to Igor Montenegro."

Valdo opened the door more, looking at both of them and saying:

"Sorry, he traveled a long time ago. Here I just stay who takes care of the house for him because we are friends and he asked."

"What is your name?"

"Valdo Menezes."

"Well, Valdo, we have a search warrant." The policeman showed him a sheet of paper. "So, excuse me."

The young man got out of the way for them to enter and they looked at the house with all their attention. The first cup asked:

"I suppose the wife went with him, didn't she?"

"Wife?!" Valdo didn't understand anything anymore.

"Yes, wife. Eduarda Vargas Montenegro, according to these papers."

"I fear there is something very strange, because Eduarda married that scoundrel Samuel and not Igor. She and Igor were engaged, but Samuel did something and made Duda drop my friend."

"In these papers it states that she is married to Igor Montenegro."

"After all, what did he do wrong, can I know?"

"Not long ago, someone was researching his wife on the federal police computers and he was filmed leaving the police station, but not entering, that along with another person who could not be identified. In addition, there are his fingerprints at a crime scene in the city of Santa Sofia, not to mention the descriptions of many witnesses who saw him there."

Valdo was thoughtful and concluded that Igor had achieved his goal and maybe even rescued his fiancee, but he must have needed to use a lot of violence. Soon after, he remembered a news that came on television, news that he laughed and ignored because it was absurd.

"By the way, isn't Santa Sofia that city where they said there was a guy who got into Green Lantern who floated in the air and threw rays?" Valdo laughed a good laugh when he saw the face of little ease of the policemen. "Come on. Well, gentlemen, since you have a warrant, I can do nothing, but I would appreciate it if you don't mess up too much because I will have to fix it back. After all, we already know each other from college, about three years ago. Anything just ask."

"Yes" confirmed the delegate. "I remember that freshman party. And Igor plus Eduarda were the young people attacked, weren't they?"

"That's right." Valdo laughed. "And I think that ended up turning into a romance. Well, make yourself comfortable." The boy did not show it, but he was dying of fear, especially when he learned that they were filmed.

― ☼ ―

"Igor." Eduarda gave him a little nudge. "It looks like you went into a trance."

"Sorry," he said, almost jumping. "I was remembering things. I think it's better to tell you from the beginning—"
