Chapter 4: The Council of Rulers

(SCENE: HALLWAY)

Inside of the castle of the royalties, Oscar and the girls can be seen walking down one of the many hallways towards their mentioned Council room. While walking, Oscar decides to share some of his tales.

"And then, after cornering both that Succubus & Katakan and killed them, that goddamn Orphanage owner had testicles of a mountain to give me only 5 coins. Can you believe that?!? 5 coins for both a Succubus and a Vampire!" Oscar rants on for a bit as the girls could only shake their heads at this.

"What an ungrateful bastard. You risked your life for him and those orphans & all he gives you is 5 coins for your troubles? What a cheap prick." Mirellia says as Oscar nods in agreement with her. "Yeah. After that, I said I'll never take on another contract from him ever again. I followed through with my threat as he posted another contract that involved a crime boss of sorts. Last I heard, his body was relocated at the bottom of a lake." Oscar says in an uncaring tone.

The group arrived at a door that dons artistic dragon symbols on it, signifying it to be connected to a place of great important. "Guessing this is it, huh?" Oscar asks as Celestine nods in confirmation. "Yes. Most of the Council members are behind the door, except for two, who are off doing gods knows what." Celestine says while sounding angry & disgusted at the mention of the two missing Council members.

"And I'm guessing one of them is Mirellia's husband?" Oscar questions as Mirellia nods in confirmation. "The other bastard is Flare and Norn's father: Proum. He's as much of a bastard as Aultcray is, if not worse." Olga says.

Oscar starts thinking of how much of a whoreson these two are as he wonders if he should respark his Ruler Killing reputation once more.

That's right, Oscar has killed Kings and Queens before. Granted, they were corrupted rulers and he & his friends were paid by the citizens to dispose of them. But after his friends died, he decides to retire from the king slaying & queen butchering business for good. And now? He's thinking about coming out of retirement.

Unknowingly to Oscar, Celestine has been reading his mind for a long time now and she now knows of his killing of rulers. 'I can't believe someone as sweet as Oscar is capable of killing humans. But I can't scorn him or anything. The rulers were corrupted and were worse then scum. But I don't want to do if he decides to go back on his king killing ways.' She says in her mind as she worries for Oscar on his choice about reinstating his title as the Slayer of Rulers.

She pushes those thoughts aside as the door to the Council room opens.

(SCENE CHANGE: COUNCIL ROOM)

Oscar and the girls enters the room to find a large room with a desk like table in front of a very large painting.

In front of the table, two people are seen having a friendly discussion between each other, a man and a woman. The man appears to be above the age of 60 & grey hair while the woman is around 30 or 40 years old and had pink hair.

This is King Argus & Queen Elizabeth, wife of King Proum. While Proum is an asshole, Elizabeth is actually a sweetheart. She tries to talk sense and reason into her daughters, but it only ends with them ignoring her and Proum berating her.

Growing tried of this pointless war, Elizabeth filed out a divorce and was going to have him signed it once he returns from his pointless and stupid partying. Same thing could be said for Mirellia and her husband.

The two rulers took notice of Celestine, Mirellia and the others. "Ah, girls, so glad you can show up." King Argus says as he spots Oscar. "And I see you brought a friend." He says as he approach Oscar.

The Witcher's face holds no expression as the king approached him. Argus stops as he's into Oscar's eyes. The two have a stare down as everyone present are fearful on what'll happen next.

However, their looks of fear changed when King Argus starts laughing. "So, you're the young man who stood up for that merchant? I must say: what a brave and kind young man you are." He says as he pats Oscar's shoulder.

King Argus then takes notice of Oscar holding the weapons of the Heroes he defeated. "Ah, I see you have the Heroes missing weapons. That's good, hand them over and I'll make sure to return them." He says, earning looks of uneasiness from Oscar, Celestine's group and Mirellia.

"What?" King Argus asks in confusion. "Your majesty, you might what to sit down." Oscar says, earning a confused look on the King's face.

"And so, that's that." Oscar says, finishing telling him the story of his battle with the Hero Party. "I see." King Argus says with no emotion as his face shows one of frustration. "They told me they were unjustly attacked by some cat eyed bandit that stole their weapons." Argus says, earning simultaneous 'Not True!' from Celestine's group & Mirellia.

"Yeah, expected something like that to happen." Oscar says as he de idea to change the topic to something else. "Speaking of their weapons, tell them this: I'll only give them back to them if they can earn them in a fist fight with me, no magic and no weapons allowed." Oscar says as King Argus nod his head at this and made a mental note.

"But enough about the Hero Party, we're here to discuss about Oscar." Celestine says as she turns to Oscar. "Think you can wait outside while we talk?" She asks as Oscar decides to play along and leaves the room.

(POV CHANGE: OSCAR)

After waiting for about 2 hour or 3, the doors opened up and some woman in a maid's outfit exits the room & approached me. "Master Oscar, the Council have finished talking and are now requesting your presence." The maid says.

"Okay, guess I'll see what they want." I said as I got up and enter the room. I approached the table as I see Celestine, her group, Mirellia and the two other rulers giving me blank looks.

This caused me to be on edge as royalties having looks like this are never a good thing. "Oscar Storm, we have talked it over and have decided on what to do with you." King Argus says with a serious look appearing on his face.

I don't know what he was about to say, but I'm prepared to attack in case they decide to go down that road. After all, I'm a man that has nothing left to lose anymore, so I'm not scared of fighting anyone above my weight.

However, I was surprised when their expression changed into a happy one. "We have decided to make you apart of our forces. Your skills are valuable and your abilities are enough to triumph even our best warriors. And so, we would like you to join our side." King Argus says, shocking me greatly.

After all, me and royalties haven't gotten along for as long as I can remember. "I'm flattered. Really, I am. But are you certain you want me for the job? I mean, I'm sure there are thousands of people here who can do 20x better then me." I said as King Argus chuckles and shook his head.

"There might be, but only you have the skills to handle all kinds of threats, be it monsters or humans. Not to mention, you single-handedly wiped the floor with the Hero Party, a feat that many in our kingdom thought to be impossible. Besides, you can get a comfy house out of it, be free to stop all that wondering around. You can also be free to do other jobs besides killing." King Argus explains.

This.....actually got my attention. All my life I've been doing nothing but roam the land and killing things. Maybe a change of pace wouldn't be so bad. Sure, it kinda goes against Witcher law and such, but I'm the only Witcher here for miles and miles, so I'm sure things won't end horribly.

"You know what? I will accept your terms. But, of course, there are limits that would like to be addressed as a later point in time." I said as King Argus nods in agreement. "I expected as such. After all, without rules and boundaries, we be as primal and savage as our ancient ancestors." King Argus says as he hands me a piece of paper.

"This is the address of your temporary home until one can be either found or built." King Argus says as I fold the paper up and stuffed it in my pocket. Then, both Mirellia and Elizabeth stands up from their seats as they turned to their heads to the rest of the Council.

"If it's alright with our new Witcher friend, me and Elizabeth would like to talk with him about something very important." Mirellia says as this peeked my interest a bit. So, I decided to go along with them on their little discussion. "Sure thing, just as long it doesn't take up too much time." I said as both she and Elizabeth gets up from their seats, grabs me by my arms & guides out of the room.

(SCENE CHANGE: HALLWAYS)

As me, Mirellia and Elizabeth walk down the hallways, I decided to pop the question. "So, while we're not doing anything, think you all can clue me in on what your big plans for me are?" I asked as Mirellia and Elizabeth give me a shook of their heads and a small smirk.

"We'll tell you soon. But first, a little privacy." Mirellia says as she grabs a nearby torch on the wall and pulls on it. To my surprise, it reveals to be a hidden passageway. "Come. We'll find a much better place to discuss things in here." Mirellia says as she and Elizabeth enters the passage, with me following behind them.

(SCENE CHANGE: SECRET PASSAGEWAY)

We walked through secret passageway until we reached an ancient looking hideaway, stocked with various books and alchemist inventions. "This hideout once belong to my great grandfather. He was a brilliant alchemist and inventor. But he decided to immortalize them in his books instead of letting them exist & risk being thrown into the wrong hands. Which explains why he destroyed all of his serious inventions and left only a few non combat inventions left intact." Mirellia explained.

"And my father helped as well. The two were best of friends and they had a dream to bring peace to our lands. But, they knew it couldn't be done because of the various villains that creep and crawl like rats." Elizabeth adds on as I nod in agreement.

Makes sense to me. I saw first hand what could happen to someone if given too much power, both good and bad.

But enough of that, it's time to get answers. "So, now we're alone. Wanna tell me why you brought me here or not?" I asked with a bit of impatience in my voice. "Of course. You know of our husbands right?" Mirellia asks as she holds up two pictures of two men: one with the bitch's hair color and the other with black hair.

I nod in confirmation. "Good, and Celestine told me about your hidden reputation as a killer of kings, queens and other lords & rulers." She says as I was shocked at this 'cause I never told her or anyone else that. "She read your mind. She apologized afterwards and promise to never do it again." Elizabeth says as I sigh at this and decide to let it go.

"So, what about it?" I asked as Mirellia and Elizabeth hands me several files: all with their husband's name on them. Raising a brow, I start reading through each file. Needless to say, once I finished reading through them, I think I'm starting to understand what Mirellia and Elizabeth want.

"I get it now. You two want me to kill your husbands. But why? Isn't a divorce enough as it is?" I asked as Mirellia and Elizabeth got grim looks on their faces. "Normally, yes. But with these two, they would rather die then give up their power and fortune. If left alone, they could overthrow us, kill our friends and enslave half of them because of their Demi-Human bloodlines. Their too dangerous to be left alone for too long, they need to die." Mirellia explained as Elizabeth nods in agreement.

"I know it's a lot to ask of you, but we feel like you're the only one we can trust to do this difficult job. You don't have to decide now, you've got sometime." Elizabeth says as I begin pondering on what to do.

On the one hand, these bastards need to die before they could cause any irreversible harm. But on the other, I didn't want to ruin my craft's reputation in this new world. While I don't expect Mirellia and Elizabeth to cause too much of a fuss about this, I can't expect the same for citizens who likes them.

Though I'm certain that number is near to nonexistent with these two.

Eventually, I came to a conclusion. "Okay, I'll take out your husbands and I'll even do it for free. But I want you two to keep that Hero Party off my back when I do. Otherwise, they'll most likely cause complications and such." I said as Mirellia and Elizabeth squealed in joy at this.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! We promise you won't regret this and we'll make sure the Hero Party doesn't intervene!" Mirellia exclaims with excitement and joy as she then hands me a document.

"That's everything you need to know about our plans. Read it well and learn everything." Elizabeth says as I nod my head. I then folded up the paper and stuffed it in one of my belt's pockets. "Thanks. I'll read it once I get to my temporary home." I said as me, Mirellia and Elizabeth leaves the secret hideaway.

(SCENE CHANGE: OUTSIDE OF THE CASTLE) (POV CHANGE: 3RD PERSON)

Oscar is seen on top of Zephyr as both of them are facing towards King Argus and the rest of the Council. "Well, time for us to be on our way. Till we meet again." Oscar says as he rides off with Zephyr.

(Here's chapter 4 done and Oscar, not only gets a temporary home, but also a job in the future to kill Aultcray and Proum. Next chapter will take us to Oscar's temporary home.)
