CHAPTER THREE: FIGHT IN THE DINER

A five-year-old you was walking next to Reginald who walked into the living room of the Academy.

"Children" he said and seven kids all your age turned to him "Dad, who is this?" one of the boys asked "This is Natalie and she is gonna stay here. She is not a member of the family or the team and she is not gonna live here, but she is gonna train with us" Reginald said and the seven kids ran over to you causing you to take a step back, 'cause you were a shy girl.

"Oh great. Another girl in the house" a boy that was holding a toy knife said.

"Hello, Natalie, I'm Number Three. But you can call me Allison" a girl with black curly black said "Hello Natalie, nice to meet you, I'm Number Seven, but you can call me Vanya" the other girl said as she shook your hand.

"Hello Natalie, I'm Number Four, but you call me Klaus" one of the boys said.

"I'm Number Six, but you can call me Ben" another boy said.

"I'm Number One, but you can call me Luther" a blond boy said.

"I'm Number Two, but you can call me Diego" the boy with the knife said as you shook their hands.

You then looked at the last boy, he had short dark brown hair that almost looked back and the most beautiful soft warm green eyes you have ever seen.

"I'm Number Five, but you can call me Five" he said as he stretched his arm towards you "Hello, I'm Natalie Eversun" you said as you shook his hand.

As soon as your hands touch, you both felt warm and it was like an electric went through your bodies, it was like two puzzle pieces finally put together, two magnets connecting, a invisible thread tied you two together. 

"Five has a crush" Klaus said with a smile and Five quickly pull his hand back "No I don't" he spat at his brother.

"Five and Natalie sitting in a tree" Klaus sang before he started walking away causing both you and Five to blush a bit.

"Welcome to the circus Natalie" Ben said "Don't worry. You don't have to be scared, we're all here for each other" Allison said and you smiled.

From the age of five to 13, your mom let you stay at the Umbrella Academy everyday while she was working.

So everyday your mom drop you off at 05:30 am at the Academy and she would first pick you up later that evening.

Sometimes you would even sleep there, but it was only when your mom was on business trip.

Reginald trained your abilites. You never went on missions with the kids, but you trained with them and spend a lot of time with them and you quickly became very closed with them and because of them you stop being shy and started opened more up and was not scared of doing new things.

You were cloeset with Ben, Five, Diego, Klaus and Vanya, but you and Five quickly became best of friends and you became inseparable.

You of course also spend time with the others kids, like when you were not on missions with the others, you would stay at the Academy, hanging out with Vanya since she was not allow on any of the missions either since she was told that we was ordinary and didn't had any powers.

You always hang out with the other kids, not so much with Allison and Luther, but the others you hang out with them all day everyday.

You, Vanya, Ben and Five had a study group together and you, Vanya and Ben would sometimes tease Five about his super neat handwriting.

You and Klaus like pranking the other kids together and you would sometimes help Klaus when he got himself into trouble. You were actually the only one that took Klaus serious.

 You and Ben loved reading together in the Academy's library.

You were also really closed with Diego and you often help Diego with his homework or his stuttering.

Diego became like a big brother to you, the two of you had a kind of little sister and big brother relationship. He was very protective of you.

You would often either alone or with Five sit in Vanya's room, listening to her playing violin because the both of you found the music comforting. You two would read or just sit and listen while you were there.

Vanya was the only one of the siblings that didn't had powers and even so she was treated like a outsider, you were always there for her. You kept telling her that powers or no powers, you knew that she was strong, just like the rest.

Since Vanya was ordinary, she never went on missions with the others and since you were not allow to go on missions, you and Vanya stayed at the Academy while the others were out.

Sometimes, you, Five, Klaus, Ben and Diego met up in the park and the five of you would then sneak into movie theaters.

And you always help the siblings with their chores.

But you and Five had something special, the two of you had a very strong and unbreakable bond and connection no one could explain.

You and Five always hang out together, where one was, the other was not far away. When you were done training, you and Five always used to hang out, you either trained together, talked, read or all other kind of things. You and Five told each other everything and did everything together, it was like the two of you were made for each other.

You two always made your favorite snacks which was peanut butter and marshmallow sandwiches.

Five loves the way you made coffee, so everytime he wanted coffee, you were always the one that made it cause you could made it a special way like no one else could, not even Grace could make it, and Five loved your special coffee.

You and Five were always by each other's side and there for each other. You shared secrets together, you even had your own secrets whistle to each other, that you used everytime you said goodbye or when Five came back from a mission, he then let out a whistle to let you know that he was back and you always whistle back.

You and Five also did homework together, you never did anything without each other. If one of you got hurt or sick, the other would take care of them, until they got better. If one of you got into trouble, the other would back them up and help them.

Five was the one that could motivated you to be brave and strong. And you were the only one that could make him act kind and soft.

Five was your reason not to lose control and you were Five's reason to live and to be soft and kind.

He was the sun that could turn your dark days into bright days again and you did the same to him.

Five never called your abilities for powers, he called them magic, because he think they were like magic.

Five is the kindest and harshest person you have ever laid eyes on. He always think that he was better than anyone and he always acted tough and kinda like an asshole towards everyone, except for you. He always acted kind, caring, sweet and soft towards you, which was the reason the other siblings realized and knew that Five liked you in a romantic way.

One of the reason why Five was in love with you was because you were the only one really there for him, you saw through him, understood him, listen to him, saw the good in him. He gave you the biggest hope just like you did to him. You saw something in him, that only you saw. Just like he did to you.

Every since you were five, he have always being there for you and you for him. When you were scared or sad, he would be there to hold your hand and comfort you. When you were sleeping at the Academy and couldn't sleep he would lay down next to you and hummed for you until you fell asleep. 

The other kids would always teased you in how closed you and Five were.

Everyone other than you and Five knew that you two were so in love in each other and the siblings would always tease you and Five about it, even so you both always denied it but everyone could see it.

Sometimes you would sneak out at night meeting Five and the others at a diner and eating doughnuts while having fun.

When Reginald would occasionally went away for a day for business meetings. You and the siblings would meet downstairs in the Academy and use a projector to have a massive movie night. The siblings would always fight over what to watch and who got to choose, but it was their only chance to feel like normal kids.

The Umbrella Academy became your second family and you were so happy that you have found others like you. That you weren't alone anymore.

You were the light in all of the sibling's lives even if you weren't a member of the family, you kept them whole, you kept them together, you made them feel like there was a reason.

The man gave the boy an address to a place before he left.

The boy folded the napkin where the address was on and put it in his blazer's pocket.

He was about to take a sip of his coffee when he saw in the bell's mirror a bunch of armed men all in black, walking into the diner.

The man pointed his gun at the boy's head who put his hands out on the counter in front of him with the coffee mug sat between his hands.

"Hmm. That was fast" the boy said in a calm voice "I thought I have more time before they found me" he said "Okay. So let's all be professional about this, yeah? On your feet and come with us. They want to talk" one of the men said.

"They want to talk, but I don't. Because I've got nothing to say" the boy said "It doesn't have to go this way. You think I want to shoot a kid? Go home with that on my conscience?" the guy asked and the boy sighed before he moved his head slightly "Well, I wouldn't worry about that" he said as he turned his head to look at the men "You won't be going home" he said before he slowly grabbed a butter knife.

But then the door to the restroom opened and you stepped out "Okay. I hope this wash off" you said as you fix your jacket but once you looked up, you stopped when you saw the armed men pointing their guns at the boy.

"Don't move" the man that was standing closest to you said as he pointed his gun at you and you froze.

"Shit" the boy mumbled as he saw you walking out of the restroom, hoping that you would have stayed in there for a little while longer so you weren't dragged into any of this, not that he cared.

Or did he?

"What is going on here?" you asked confused "Hands where we can see them" said the the man that had his gun pointed at you "Are you from the police?" you asked "Hands now" the man said "Okay" you said as you raised your hands next to your head.

The boy think it was weird that he was actually a little worried for what these guys would do to you. He knew that they were sent by the place he used to work for to get him back and they had probably been told to kill everything and everyone that got in the way and maybe they would kill you 'cause you were a witness or they would take you with them which he don't know why they would that. Maybe to get him to cooperate.

The boy knew he had to do something, otherwise the group would take him. 

Then without warning, the boy blinked away, appearing behind the guy closest to him, stabbing him in the neck causing him to groaned and he starting shooting in the air as he arched his back and fell to the floor while the others all started shooting at the boy which made you gasps when you saw as the boy disappeared in a blue light before reappearing again in the same bright blue light.  

Your eyes widened when you saw the boy appear before reappear another place. 

He had powers, which mean only one thing, he's like you. You thought that you were the only one left that had speciel abilities after Toby and Sabrina died, but you were not alone.

Or you could be hallucinating since the doctor told you that your mind could be messing with you.

Still with your hands up, you watched the boy fighting the guys.

The lights continued to flicker as the boy appeared over by a small table "Hey, assholes!" he shouted and the men turned to him before they started shooting but the boy reach to blink again.

The guys stopped shooting and started looking around.

Then the boy appeared just outside the door peaking through the window.

The boy knocked on the window causing one of the guys to turn around and the boy lifted two of his fingers to his head, saluting him while smiling fakely at the guy.

The guy pulled the trigger but the boy reach to blink away again while the glass on the door shattered and fell to the floor.

The guy stopped shooting before he walked closer to the door.

The boy then appeared next to a guy, he grabbed a broom and broke it before he stabbed the guy with it and quickly disappeared.

The boy appeared behind a guy before wrapping his tie around the guy's neck, pulling him down so his back hit the table, causing him to grunt and the boy started suffocate him, causing the guy to groaned while trying to breathe.

Your eyes was widened as you saw just how amazing the boy was fighting. He knew what he was doing and he didn't hesitated to kill them. That boy just killed someone, he didn't even hesitate.

Who would teach a kid that young to kill?

Five never showed mercy or hesitation to his enemies simply giving them swift painful death. He can we very vicious when engaged in combat, and right here, he showed it

"You, get down on your knees now" the man that had his gun pointing at you said and you looked at him "Now" he said "Okay, okay. Easy. Look I'm cooperating, this is me being nice" you said as you got down on your knees.

Still with the gun pointed at you, the guy walked closer to you and when he was closed enough, you took the chance.

You grabbed his gun before you lifted it up making it point on the celling.

Then with your good fighting skills, you wrapped your legs around the guy's neck before you with your strength, pulled the guy down on the floor causing him to let out a grunt noise which 'cause everyone including the boy to snapped their heads towards the sound and the boy's eyes widened when he saw that you have taking down one of them alone.

Another guy pointed his gun at the boy, but while still choking another guy with his tie, the boy grabbed a pencil before stabbing the guy between his leg causing him to grunt in pain as he felled to his knees.

The boy took the pencil out of the guy before he stabbed him in the eye causing him to scream before he fell dead on the floor.

Another guy pointed his gun at you but while the boy was strangling another guy, he grabbed a plate before he threw it at the guy's face causing him to fell to the floor.

The guy that the tie was around, stopped breathing and the boy got up.

Two men got up before they pointed their guns at the boy but he ran towards the counter as the men lifted their weapons.

The boy went in front of the two men and as they started shooting, the boy blinked out of the way.

The two men who was standing directly in front each other, hit each other causing them both to fell to the floor with a scream and a grunt.

The boy appeared next to the man that he had strangled before he sighed and grabbed his tie from the man's neck, before putting it around his own neck.

Then suddenly the boy heard a gasp and he looked towards the sound to see that one of the guys had wrapped his free arm around your throat and was holding you in a headlock position while he had his gun pointed on your temple.

"Okay, you stay there, don't make me shoot her" the guy said.

It was weird, you were a stranger to the boy, he didn't knew you, didn't care, but why was he actually worried that the guy would hurt you.

"Put her down" the boy hissed "Not until you come with us" the guy said. The boy didn't want to carry about the gulity, he didn't want to carry around the responsibility for your death, you had nothing to do with this, you were innocent. You were just someone at the wrong place at the wrong time.

But then your eyes glow red and you put your left hand on the guy's left waist before red energy force came out of your hands, hitting the man, pushing him a few feet away from you causing him to let out a grunt.

You then quickly turned around before sending out more red energy force out of your hands, making the man fly backwards causing his back to hit the wall and he fell to the floor.

You turned around to look at the boy and his eyes widened in shock that you could do that. But it was also like he have seeing those powers before.

"You're like me and my siblings" he said as he saw that your eyes changed back to your normal color.

But then one of the men got up from behind the boy before he lifted his gun "Coffee Boy, get down!" you called out as you formed a red energy ball with your hands, and the boy quickly dodged as you threw an red energy ball towards the guy just as he pulled the trigger.

The energy force hit the bullets sending them flying backwards, causing them to hit the guy while he was also hit by the energy force causing him to fly backwards, his back hitting the wall before he fell on the floor.

"Fuck" you said, you were not meant to hit him that heard, you hope that he didn't died 'cause you can't handle killing. And you knew that you would started panicking if you killed another human being again.

The boy looked at the guy before he looked back at you and his eyes widened as he looked at you while he got up.

"Thanks" he said "You're welcome" you said.

But then you both heard one of the guys groan so the boy calmly walked over to the guy and put his feet on both side of the man's head, grabbing the man's chin and hair before he snapped his neck while you look away caused you didn't wanted to see.

The boy then lifted up a tracking device that was laying close to the guy which neck he snapped.

He walked over to sit on the counter before he rolled up his right sleeve and grabbed a butter knife and he began cutting into his own arm causing him to let out a grunt.

"What the hell are you doing?" you asked "Calm down" the boy said while blood began to come out from the cut that only grew deeper and wider as he continue to press down.

He put the knife down before he dug two of his fingers into the open cut. He started groaned as his finger followed the muscle and moved through the blood until he found the tracker.

He let out another groan as he pulled out a small circle with a blinking green dot in the center that kept beeping.

"What is that?" you asked "A tracking chip" he said before he looked at you.

"Listen, you can't tell anyone what you just saw" he said "I'm just so confuse on what happened...Who were those guys? Why did you kill them? Are they after you? Do you work for them?" you asked as you looked at them.

"Care to explain why those guys try to kill you?" you asked "I broke a contract with someone and then left so I could get back and save my family and they didn't like that. They were able to find me because of the tracker I had in my arm but with that out they can't find me" he explain.

Even so the boy had just met you, he felt drawn to you, felt connected to you in some way and you felt the same.

"Listen, you're like me, gifted with special and unique abilities and since you seem to know what you're doing and even so I don't know you, but I feel like I do. I want you to come with me, just in case more of those guys will come" he said "Maybe I should just go home" you said "Listen" the boy walked closer to you.

"Those guys, there will come more of them and since you have being seen with me, it's a good idea that you stay near me. Unless you have a really good explain to tells the cops what happened here when they arrive" the boy said.

"Are you going to kill me?" you asked "Why would I kill you? You are not one of those people right?" he asked and you shook your head "No" you said "So why would I kill you?" he asked "That was most serial killers said, lure their target away and then kills them" you said "True, but you just saved me" he said. 

"I don't know if I should go with you" you said "Look, you can either come with me, stay here and wait for more guys like them to arrive, or tell the cops what happened, or walk away and beg they don't find you, bringing everyone around you in danger, it's your choice" the boy said before he turned around and walked towards the door of the diner.

You looked around the diner, at all the dead bodies. Maybe it was best to go with that boy, and it's just temporarily.

You took a deep breath "Okay" you said before you walked over to the door "Wait" you said and the boy turned around to look at you "I'm coming with you" you said "Let's go" he said and the two of you walked out of the diner.

The boy threw the tracker on the ground before he fix his tie as the two of you walked away from the diner before the boy opened the door to the front of the car.

"By the way" the boy stopped before he turned to look at you "I'm Five. Five Hargreeves" he said before he stretched his left arm towards you "Five, like the number?" you asked and he nodded.

Weirdly his name sounded so familiar.

"What? Was Number One, Two, Three and Four taking?" you asked and he chuckled "Kinda, my dad gave me this name, I have six other siblings and our dads called us numbers instead of names so" he said "Weird" you said "Yeah. We have a robot as a mother and she gave us real names" he said.

"Wait. You're Five Hargreeves, a member of the Umbrella Academy. Him who disappeared over 16 years ago" you said and he nodded again "Yeah. That's me" he nodded "I thought you would be just as old as your siblings" you said "I got transform back to this body" he said.

He is in the same situation as you.

"And you are?" he asked.

 "Natalie. Natalie Eversun" you said and it was like your name sounded familiar, like he had heard it before.

"Nice to meet you, Natalie Eversun" he said "Nice to meet you too, Five Hargreeves" you said as the two of you shook hands.

As soon as your hands touch, another electric feeling went through your bodies. It was like you two had met before.

"Have we met before?" you asked "No, I don't think so. I never forget a face" he said "Well, maybe it's just a feeling" you said "Well, I have the same feeling" he said as you looked at each other.

You think it was weird, not long ago, he was an asshole and now he is all kind to you.

"Let's just get out of here" he said and you nodded before you walked over to the other side of the car.

"Where are we going?" you asked "To my sister, she will listen" he said "About what?" you asked but he didn't answer as he started the car before driving away.

You were 12 years old and you had being injured in training and was now recovering, so you were laying in bed fast asleep since the robot name Grace who had being the one taking care of Five and the others kids had giving you something for the pain.

Vanya push the door to the bedroom slowly to find Five sitting on the bed with your head laying on his lap. He was stroking your head softly with his hand while he was humming quietly.

Five then looked up to see Vanya looking at him with a raised eyebrow "Not a word" he whispered and she nodded before she enter.

"Shh, she is sleeping" he said "Why is her head laying on your lap?" Vanya asked, both of them talk quietly so they didn't woke you up.

"'Cause she couldn't sleep and she once told me that I'm her favorite and comfort pillow, so mom gave her something so she could sleep and then Nat ask me to stay until she fell asleep. But now she is asleep like this and I can't get myself to move. I'm scared of waking her" he said as he stroke his hand up and down on the side of your head.

"That's sweet" Vanya said "Please don't tell the others. I don't want to get tease about my love for her" he said and Vanya's eyes widened.

"What did you just say?" she asked "Nothing" he said, hoping that she didn't hear what he just said.

"I just came here 'cause mom ask me to bring this to Tilly" Vanya said as she put a glass of water and two pills by the night table "Thanks. I will make sure she take them" Five said "You're lucky that dad is off on a business trip 'cause otherwise he wouldn't be happy to know that you skip training and missions to stay with her" Vanya said "Well, I'm glad that Pogo promised me not to say anything to dad" Five said before he looked down at you who was laying fast asleep.

"It's just, I can't focus when she is hurt or when she is not with me. I can't think. I just need her near me" he said "You two have a special bond, connection and friendship" Vanya said.

"My friendship with her is very different. She is my center point. I can't breath when I'm not with her. When she leave, I keep looking at the clock just waiting to see her again, it's just time is going slow while I wait. It's like she makes me happy. I see her and then I smile even if I have had a bad day. As soon as I see her, all my pain and problems just go away. When I'm with her, I enjoy it. When she smiled it makes all my pain to go away, my legs goes numb and my heart is beating faster, her eyes makes the stars looks like they aren't shining. She belongs to the kind of bright people" Five said before he looked at Vanya "Have you ever known the kind of people who radiate colors but they don't even realize it themselves?" he asked and she nodded.

"I think the world shines because of Nat. My world definitely shines and has colors because of her" he said "What you say is very beautiful" she said "Or very stupid" he said "No, no. Not stupid at all. It's very romantic. I think it's something you'd say if you were very much in love" she said "In love?" he asked and she nodded.

"You are wrong" he said "Come on Five, everyone can see it. You are in love with her" she said "You think I'm in love with her?" he asked and she nodded "Yes, you don't realize it. You are in love with her" she said and he chuckled a bit "What do you mean, no, no. 'In love' is a big word. No, no she is just a friend, no more" he said "Being friends doesn't mean that you can't fall in love with them" she said "No, no. Besides, it's very risky. Imagine if I lost our friendship. No, no because friendship is the most important thing to me, you know what I mean" he said "But the most important thing is to follow your heart and listen to your feelings" she said.

"But if I lose her forever" he said "No, you don't lose her. If a friendship is strong, then is not like a hit song that goes out of style and stops being played. What you have with her is very strong and unique. And even if the years goes by, it will keep playing and it lasts forever. No matter how much time passes, it's strong" she said and he looked down at you who was still asleep.

"But what if I can't tell her what I feel?" he asked "Take it slowly, ask her out on a date or something else and then start from there" she said "But what if she don't feel that same? 'Cause if I tell anything and she doesn't feel the same way, everything will be ruin, our connection, our bond and our friendship. So what if she don't feel the same?" he asked "I doubt that" she said and he looked up at her "You have to tell her how you feel Five, before it's too late and you will lose her forever" she said and he looked down at you again.

"Oh my good" he said as his eyes widened "I'm in love with Natalie Eversun. I love her" he said and she smiled "See, told you" she said and he looked back up at her "Please don't tell anyone" he said "Don't worry. I wouldn't" she said "Especially not to Nat" he said "Trust me. I'm like a safety deposit box with double padlocks and plenty of security" she said "Wow" he said "Yeah, it's a lot. I'm very good at keeping secrets. I won't say anything. But may I give you a piece of advice?" she asked and he nodded "Tell her your feelings. Don't hold them in for too long. If you do, it will be too late and you will regret it for the rest of your life. And this comes from someone who keeps it all to herself" she said before walked out of the bedroom and closed the door after her.

Five then looked back at you that was still in a deep sleep "What would I do without you, Nat" he said as he stared down at you with a smile on his face while he stroke his finger down your cheek.

"Time goes by faster than you can imagine, act now or you'll regret it later in life"
