The Visitor
Do you ever get homesick even when you are at your current home? Maybe you're not feeling homesick. Maybe you're feeling familysick. Mercy has been missing her family for a while. With Mark around, visiting family is harder than before. Although, when your family comes to you, you know you've been gone too long. That's exactly what happened to Mercy. Charles couldn't wait to see his sister again so he went to Miss Marla hoping she might know where Mercy is. Thankfully, she did know. She explained to Charles where she was, or at least where she knows Mercy last was living. He had a lead which might fall if she wasn't there.
"Who goes there?", a guard asked Charles. "I'm Charles. I am a lord and I have come to see if a friend of mine is here", he explained. Charles stared as they sent someone to fetch Daniel. When Daniel arrived, Charles was surprised to see a young lad who seemed way younger than Mercy. "Who are you? Who is it that you are looking for?", Daniel asked. "I'm Charles, a lord, and I am looking for Mercy. Is she in this village?", Charles replied cordially. "Hm... you're here for Mercy? Well, come one in", Daniel said gesturing for the gates to be raised. Daniel led him to the apartment building. Daniel had no idea exactly which room was Mercy's, but he did know it would have her name on a plaque outside of it. "Here's her room. I'm going to go and attend to my duties", Daniel explained as he slowly walked off.
Charles hesitated to knock. He didn't know if she'd be excited to see him, but then he soon realized she loves to see him when she can. He knocked on the door hoping she was there. "Who is it?", Mercy asked getting ready to open the door. Charles was relieved to hear her voice so he said, "Your brother who's missed you". Mercy quickly opened the door. "Charles!", she screamed as she hugged Charles tightly. "I've missed you too", Charles laughed. Then, Mark and Zane came out their rooms curious as to what Mercy was screaming about. "Who's this?", Mark asked clearly jealous. "It's Charles... a lord of a town", Zane answered for them. Mercy looked at Zane, then at Charles, then to Mark. "Are you jealous?", Mercy asked Mark. "Of course I am! I want you to have your arms around me! Not him!", Mark answered. Mercy blushed, but laughed. "He's my brother, idiot", Mercy chuckled trying to hold back another laugh. Mark looked like he calmed a bit more. "Still want your arms around me, though", he whispered. Zane heard it and growled slightly.
"Not gonna give your friend a proper greeting?", asked Charles, "Or are you jealous too?". Mercy looked at Charles and she really wanted to laugh. "I'm sorry I wasn't expecting to see you here... with her arms around you", Zane said mumbling the last part to himself. Mercy let go of Charles and looked at him occasionally turning to Zane. "Uh... Is he the lord you're friends with?", Mercy asked trying to comprehend the situation. Both Zane and Charles nodded. "Well then... why not celebrate his arrival with cake? I know all three of you like chocolate cake", Mercy smiled, "Especially my chocolate cake. All of them were staring at Mercy. They really did love the chocolate cakes she made. "Really?", all three of them asked. Mercy nodded. Making cakes didn't take her to long because she's done it so much she doe it quick, even with slow baking time.
When the cake was finished, Charles sat next to Mercy on the couch she bought a couple days ago. Mint sat on the other side. Charles and Mint didn't want Zane or Mark to get too close to Mercy. "So... um... Mark don't you think you should tell Charles who you are. Unless you've met him that one day... you know... I encountered you for the first time?", Mercy's voice trailed off. "I haven't met him that one day so I'll tell him who I am", Mark turned to Charles, "You see I am the High Court's leader". Mercy was suddenly reminded of the fear she once had of Mark and the High Court. "Wait... then why are you not enemies with Kitten here", Charles asked. He knew Mercy didn't really enjoy the High Court's rule. She feared them. Even though she never said so herself, he could tell she did. "Reasons... She's my guard for the time I live here... and well... more reasons", Mark shrugged. "Hey Zane. Why exactly are you living here? I thought you didn't want to live anywhere for a long time.", Charles asked. "Well I also have reasons. It's forbidden territory for my kind. There are also more reasons", Zane replied.
Mercy grew tired so she kicked Charles off her couch and sent him to the one Zane and Mark were sitting on. "Your bed's over there. Why'd you kick me off?", Charles asked. "Tired and too lazy to walk over there", Mercy replied as she laid on the couch, "Now let me sleep. You can stay if you guys wish. Charles you'll sleep on that couch if you're going to stay". Mark, Zane, and Charles were too noisy for Mercy to sleep. She decided to pretend she's asleep. Maybe she'll fall asleep that way. She listened to the boys conversation. "So... Zane. Do you like my sister? Is that the other reason why you're staying", Charles asked thinking Mercy was actually asleep. "What? Of course not!", Zane replied. "You say that, but at the festival, you wanted her all to yourself", Mark teased. Mercy was trying her hardest not to laugh, but she couldn't hold back her blush. The boys were too busy talking to notice. "Zane! Never thought you'd be like that!", Charles fake gasped. "Whatever. Now let's quiet down. Kitty could be awake still and we don't know it", Zane demanded. He had no idea how true that was. "What's with the pet names?", Mark asked. "They're for fun", Zane answered giving staring at Charles to let him know to not answer.
Mercy ended up sleeping, but only for half an hour. The boys were still there. Mark didn't want to leave Charles alone with Mercy even though he knew they were siblings, kind of. Zane didn't want to leave Mark with Mercy so he stayed too. When Mercy woke up, she felt as if she had a long rest. "You guys are still here? Odd, lonely idiots", she yawned. "Well seems as if little beauty is awake", Mark teased. Zane and Charles glared at him. Mint was asleep. "What? Can't be honest?", he huffed. Mercy laughed. It was about night, but none were tired. Zane and Mark slept during the day before they heard Mercy's screaming of excitement. Charles had a long rest before he went to visit Mercy so he wasn't tired either. "So... Zane... is Zoe in town because I want a girl to hang out with. Since you think she's annoying she is the perfect friend to have around", Mercy asked. Zane shook his head. "Dang it. I'm stuck here to annoy you and Leo by myself", she huffed.
"Wait... hold up... Didn't Alicia say Zoe will come back since she was called too early. If she did she's probably on her way here. I can smell her annoying scent nearby", Zane growled. Before they knew it, there was a knock on the door. "Great!", Zane sighed. Mercy was happy. Two visitors she missed. That is, if Zoe is the one knocking. She opened the door happy to see it was Zoe. "Mercy!", Zoe yelled happily, "...and Zane... plus others?". Mercy pulled her in. She was glad she wasn't the only girl now. "Zoe meet Mark and Charles", Mercy quickly explained. Charles and Mark waved. "May I have more of a description?", Zoe asked. Mercy replied with, "Mark is the leader of the High Court and Charles here is my brother". "Wait! I just realized this. Weren't you an orphan? I thought you had no family. Only friends", Zane asked. "Not real brother. We call each other that because we think of each other as that", Mercy hissed. She didn't want to do too much explaining.
"I have to go soon, Mercy. I'm going to ally the lord of this village. Then, I have to leave.", Charles explained. Mercy smiled and softly said, "It won't matter so long as I know you can visit me". Charles smiled back. "Wait... didn't you say he was a lord earlier?", Mark asked Zane. Mercy looked at Mark. "Yes he is", Mercy replied, "Lord of Mythicks. Don't do anything rash... I know you guys had him on check because he was said to ally me... If you end up doing something, I swear you won't be happy in the end". Everyone looked at her a bit frightened. "I thought I was the protective one", Charles laughed. Mercy smiled, "Well I value family. I wouldn't want to lose my brother seeing as I've lost my mom and dad. Oh! Have you met Kiara the new orphan?". Charles nodded. "She's a good girl, but she doesn't want to leave the orphanage even though she can", he explained. "Her choice. I did the same. Anyways, she's my sister now", Mercy smiled. Charles nodded.
Tomorrow Charles was leaving. Mercy was glad to at least spend a day with Charles. She introduced him to Mark and Zoe and showed him she is more protective.
