The High Court's Leader
Mercy continued up that path in which she traveled on. She noticed a group of people heading her way. They were heavily armed and highly protective. There was obviously someone important in the middle. The guards were in a circle formation, never breaking it. Mercy just tilted her hat down as she was getting much, much closer. "Mercy, are they who I think they are", Mint asked. Mercy just shook her head to shut him up.
"You there, we want to speak with you", someone said quite angrily. Mercy lowered her head and faced the guards. "Yes what may I help you out with", Mercy asked trying to seem innocent. The guard confronting Mercy said, "You can stop by moving that hat out of the way". "I-I'm s-sorry b-but", Mercy lied as she was forcing tears down her cheek, "m-my mother g-gave me this hat before she passed. I... since then... I was u-using the hat as a w-way of hiding my sorrow". "You should face the that fact she's go-", he began until another guard smacked him. "Don't mind this guy he's just very rude when he doesn't get the answers he needs", a female voice said. "I-I u-understand", Mercy said.
Another voice was then heard. It said, "May I ask you something". "S-sure", Mercy replied. " Now... witch.... did your mother really die or was that a lie. Are your tears of sadness a lie, too", he asked in a devilish tone. "W-what are y-you talking abo-about", Mercy said while still trying to put up her act. The person who was speaking happened to be the person in the middle. He broke the circle apart as he approached Mercy. Mercy stayed silent. "Witch, I must know. How long do you intend on putting on this act. It may be believable to most, but I can see through lies. I have to admit, I've never heard one like it. So... ", he said as he reached for Mercy's hat.
Mercy could not see his hand reaching toward her hat. He pulled off her witch hat and whispered, "...You see, the leader of the High Court must know a lie when they see one". "Ehhh... you managed to find out even when I was crying? Now that's something. Now if you'll kindly give the hat back that would be wonderful... W-WAIT... D-D-DID YOU SAY?!?!?! LEADER OF THE H-HIGH C-C-COURT". Mercy hadn't realized who he was until he said so himself. "Yes I did", he said proudly. "Uh... heh... n-never thought I'd s-see you like this. I thought I w-would b-be c-captured by then", Mercy said frightened. Mercy then snatched her hat back and ran off. The guards readied to run, but were ordered not to. "Let her go for now, we have other chances", said the High Court's leader.
When Mercy, finally stopped running she took deep breaths. "Mercy, was he who he really said he was", asked Mint. "...Yes... h-he... was... ", Mercy replied still trying to catch her breath. Mint crawled down her arm and into her hands. He rubbed his head gently on Mercy's thumb. "No worries, he won't get you on my watch. Anyone who might bring you sadness will not be allowed around you", Mint said reassuringly. "Your a great friend, if I may say", Mercy said sincerely. Mercy cloaked herself so she and Mint can rest for a while, possibly sleep for a while. They planned on going to an inn in a nearby village, but plans change.
