The Criminals

"Wait, hold up. You give him a description such as infamous, but all I get is bratty cat? That's messed up", was the last thing Mercy said before getting knocked out. The wolves who surrounded Mercy and the others dragged her, as well as Zane, back to the castle of werewolves. The wolves who did so carried Mercy gently for she was a woman; Zane didn't get the same treatment. The source as to why all five were knocked out is unknown, but it was obvious the werewolves used it. When they arrived at the castle, Mercy and Zane were placed in separate cells in which a small mammal, such as a cat, can't pass through.

"Where am I?", whined Mercy as she tiredly got on her feet. She examined the room she was in. Still no bed. When she looked at the bars she realized a mouse can fit through. That's when mint rang through her mind. She wanted to summon him, but sadly, it would fail, for the wolves would smell an unfamiliar scent. She slowly turned back into her human form and approached the cell bars slowly. She looked around and saw that there were only two werewolves standing guard. Both were distracted by each other in having a conservation about their personal life. All Mercy heard was, "My daughter is very cute. Maybe your daughter could have a play date with mine". Across of the cell Mercy was in was a dark colored wolf getting up on all fours.

"Ugh. My neck hurts now", said the wolf. "Hey mu- I mean Zane. Stop being lazy and get up faster", huffed Mercy, "C'mon Zane we don't have all day". Zane looked up at Mercy. It took him a while, but he soon realized he was in a jail cell. "Oh we're here", sighed Zane. "Hey the both of you are awake! Now I don't have to explained this more than once", laughed one of the guards, "You see. You are in our special cell made for special criminals. Soon, you will have to leave this place and go before the king. There you will justify your case. Good luck on that, Zane. Oh and you, the cat, you have to have a good reason to be set free". Mercy glared at the guard and stuck out her tongue, "I always beat mutts like you. In the end, I will be set free. If it takes justification or not". Zane looked at Mercy still not being able to tell if she was stupid or not.

The guard stared at Mercy, but soon left to not do something rational. Mercy was sitting on the ground thinking of how she will leave with Zane. That's when she began to wonder why Zane was here. She knows he's a rogue, but rogues are only locked down upon. "Um... Zane. May I know why you're here? I know why I'm here, but I don't know why you are here. I'll tell you why I am here if you tell me", asked Mercy calmly before noticing he put his head down, "Uh... you don't have to tell me if it's a sensitive topic". Zane stayed quiet before responding. "It's fine I'll tell you. You'll most likely know in the end", sighed Zane, "You see. I am a rogue, but years ago I was charged for treason. When I was eleven, which is the age you can be severely punished for a crime, someone framed me and made it so hard to prove it wasn't me. They even brought my mom into it... I escaped and my mother didn't". Zane paused as he looked at Mercy's face. It was filled with pity and understanding of sort.

Zane went onto explaining more about the situation. He mentioned his father who Mercy heard about. That's why his name so familiar to her. "Oh. You don't have to tell me why you are here. I already know", finished Zane. Mercy looked at him confused before nodding her head to show she understood why and how he knew. Afterwards, pure silence took over. Mercy took this time to make a plan. Her plan had to allow both her and Zane to escape from the clutches of the kingdom. Her hard thing led to her Eirr features to show. Then it hit her. She'll telapthically talk to Zane and improvise. Thing is, she only planned for success and doesn't know what to do if they fail

"Zane... Can you here me like this?", Mercy asked whilst using telepathy, "If you can don't speak out loud, use your thoughts to talk. 'Kay?". Zane turned to her with his head tilted. "What's this about?", he asked. "Wonderful. Now don't interrupt what I'm going to say. I have a plan, but it requires us to be brutally mean to each other when they tell us our crimes. We argue and from there we wing it. I'll lead it and think as we go. Good plan? Bad Plan?", explained Mercy with her head slightly tilted to the right. You see her ears help her accomplish telepathy for some reason. "It's a good plan... I guess", he shrugs. Mercy grinned happily.

Soon a couple guards and a boy who seemed a bit younger than Zane and Mercy approached. Zane growled as the boy said, "So I see we have the terrible Zane who couldn't live up to his fathers name and... a beauty who's said to be a cat. If you end up our prisoner I'm gonna ask to see if you could get a castle bedroom that's close to me", the boy smirked. "Hmm... I was given a description of bratty recently and I can tell the mongrel, oh wait I mean young lad, before me can easily fit that description", laughed Mercy. Zane's growl softened as he heard her make fun of him. "Hold your tongue when you're in front of royalty", huffed the boy. "Oh... you're royalty? In royalty do you mean the royal jester?", remarked Mercy. He growled and left just as fast as he came. "You don't seem to fulfill your name you know that right?", laughed Zane. "Aren't all kittens that way?".

It was a bit longer after the boy arrived when guards came by to take them to the king. "Time for your trial", growled one of the guards. Mercy went without a fuss and made it clear to Zane that he should do the same. The walk took a bit longer. These cells weren't in the same area as the ones Mercy first stayed in. "Well. It's good to see you two again... well that's a lie", said the king. The boy who Mercy made fun of was sitting on the prince throne. Only obvious who he is now. "Before you attempt to justify your case I will tell you your crimes", the king began, "Zane Diaz, you have been charged with treason for continuous attempts to murder the prince and for attempting to create a rebellion. Okay, now we have. Um... the cat in which we have no idea your name. You have been charged with working for an enemy and for lying to us about not being in alliance wi-". "Correction, I did not lie for I was never in alliance with them at the time. I joined afterwards", corrected Mercy. "You dare interrupt", growled the king. Mercy nodded.

Time to put the plan in action. "Zane, he read our crimes. We must act like we have wanted to go against each other the whole time", Mercy explained telepathically. "Sire I have been trying to redeem myself by bringing this cat and those enemies of yours to justice", lied Zane. "What? You have. No surprise because I have been attempting to bring you to justice", laughed Mercy, "You needed to be a caged mutt". Zane turned to Mercy, "You're an idiotic cat with no mind", growled Zane. "You're a stupid puppy", remarked Mercy. The both were taking this time to say hurtful things they were holding in. It was either small teasing or actual issues they needed to get off there chest.

"Do you want to fight me mutt?", hissed Mercy as she turned into cat. "Of course I do brat", he replied while turning into a wolf. Zane launched himself at Mercy after he saw she started to run. He chased after her making it look like he was genuinely attacking. When the castle guards joined in, the both ran through the window still acting like they were fighting each other. They put up this act until they reached the gate walls. There Zane picked up Mercy as he did parkour to get around the wall. He kept carrying her until he reached the border of the kingdom. The werewolves allowed to pass it for it was forbidden territory for the kingdom folk. "Well. That was fun", breathed Zane as he and Mercy turned into human form. "Surely was", laughed Mercy.

Zane looked around the forest he was in. It was the forest he was in when he was stalking Mercy. It was the forest that the TreeHouse is in. "We're going to need a place to stay. Mind sleeping at an orphanage with kids who might be even more annoying than Zoe? Keep in mind I'm speaking for you not me", purred Mercy. Zane shrugged. He'd have to deal with it if he were to go back to Magic Hollow. "Good," Mercy said as she grabbed Zane's hand and walked off. Mint would have bit him then and there if he were around.

When they approached the door, Mercy let go of his hand feeling a bit embarrassed. She knocked on the door. They could hear the kids inside shut up as she did so. "Marla! Someone's here!", one of the kids screamed breaking the silence. "Who is it?", someone asked. "When are you going to look through that door window and see for yourself?", asked Mercy, "It's no fun when I have to give you a hint". Before Mercy finished, the door was fully opened. "Oh Mercy. You know I like surprises", said Marla as she hugged her. "Who's this? Is he your?". "Huh. Oh no, no, no, no, no! He's just a mutt back from this village I'm staying at.", said Mercy without hesitation. "Ahem. What she means is, 'This is Zane Diaz a werewolf who's my friend... Kind of", explained Zane. Marla looked at him for a moment then dragged Mercy inside. "Keep in mind we're just coming as a rest stop. I'm still not friendly with the High Court. We'll only stay about a day or two", explained Mercy.

"Well show him to one of the spare rooms and if you wish to see Kiara she's outside with the kids". Mercy nodded before showing Zane to one of the spare rooms. She eventually ditched him to go to Kiara, but he followed because he didn't want to be alone with children. "Mercy! You're here!", exclaimed Kiara as she saw Mercy. Then, all the kids ran up to Mercy and started to hug her. Some of the werewolves caught on to Zane and started to bug him. They wanted to hear stories told by werewolves and know how it's like to shapeshift. Zane, knowing Mercy'd kill him if he wasn't kind to them, accepted to help the young werewolves. He decided to tell tales of his father. Before he knew it, almost half the kids who were awake sat in a circle around him as he told kid friendly stories. "He's popular with them already", whispered Mercy to herself. "Who is this man he keeps speaking so high of? I've read those werewolf books you left and none speak of a man like this", asked Kiara. "His father", Mercy said without explaining to much into detail.

The rest of the day, Zane was occupied by the children and Mercy was occupied by Kiara. The two talked almost the whole time. Mercy decided to tell Kiara a bit of things she learned from the witch so Kiara could be a big help. Mercy explained to Kiara what happened that day and why they actually stopped by. Kiara didn't get offended by the fact that Mercy wasn't there to meet them. She understood that Mercy couldn't visit as she wished and frankly, she didn't care. When night approached, Mercy went to sleep after she baked a cake for all the kids to eat and share. The next day, Mercy plans on heading back to Magic Hollow. She wants to make it back without stopping in areas the wolves can't attack them in.

When they left, all the kids were sad that both Mercy and Zane had to leave. Kiara dealt with it. As Mercy and Zane were walking off, Mercy said, "You work better with kids than you think". Zane shrugged not making a word. "Before you met me, what did you do for a living?", asked Mercy curiously. "Steal a bit. Make enemies with a few lords. I do have one lord who's my friend. Haven't seen him in some time, though", he replied. Mercy nodded her head.

For a long time they didn't talk. When they reached the gates of Magic Hollow, a guard finally broke the silence. "Who goes there?". Mercy didn't exactly know how to reply so she replied with, "Friends of Alicia. We live in this village". Mercy watched as the one of the guards ran off. Moments later came Alicia. "Open the gates", she yelled. After the gates went up, Alicia ran up to Mercy and hugged her tightly. "Stop making me worry! Ugh. Good thing your okay... You too Zane.", she sighed. Mercy hugged her back. Then, she walked inside and went to her house telling Alicia most everything that happened. Zoe eventually joined in soon. She was extremely worried and so was mint. Leo not as much as the others, but still worried. When the reunion ended, Mercy went to her house and went to sleep. Zane decided to walk around town.

Long couple days it was for the two, but needless to say, they will be up and running soon.
