Kidnapped

"We meet again," He said calmly.

I stood up, ready to unfurl my wings at a moment's notice. A quick glance at Jim told me he recognized the voice, his face had gone pale and he was clutching the arm of his chair with such ferocity I thought it would break to splinters.

"I'm not going with you." I warned, raising my fists.

He gave a small chuckle. "Oh William, were way past that."

Two other literally melted from the shadows. Seriously, it was like watching a chameleon. I half-wished I had a bowl of popcorn and a rewind option.

"Get out of here James." Jim growled.

The immortal's face twisted to the side, as if questioning Jim's presence. The two men moved towards me with surprising speed, but I was ready. I jumped into the air and flared my wings, smashing a plate over the first one's head.

I landed on the ground. What can I say? It's a big dining room.

The air was knocked out me, and I slammed against a wall. The second man appeared out of thin air and kicked my shins. I pushed past the pain and ducked a swing, rolling under his feet.

My eyes widened when Jim brought down a chair on what looked liked empty space. But the air shimmered when a man crumpled to the floor.

"How did you know he was there?" I spluttered.

"I can hear them, it's not that hard." He replied.

His chair sliced over my head, out of the way. And the second man shimmered and fell flat on his face. A large goose egg swelling up on his forehead.

I was about to congratulate Jim when his eyes rolled back into his head and he crumpled to the floor. James stood behind him, syringe in hand, a sickly golden liquid filled half of it.

There was a sharp pain in my neck. And I woozily pulled out a small feathered dart. The same golden juice dripping from the end of it. Oh no.

I crumpled to the floor. Unconscious.

The next thing I knew, I woke up in a enforced steel box. The ground below me thrummed. I was moving, probably in a car.

There were handcuffs around my wrist that chafed against my skin. There was a chain connecting them to the floor. Sharp ropes dug into my ankles and around my back, pinning my wings uncomfortably.

The space I was in was small. Around the size of your average minivan. I couldn't really walk around, and occasionally the car would go over a bump and crash me painfully against the side. I was stuck. Helplessly trapped.

It went on for hours this way. I tried to memorize the turns incase I escaped, but it wasn't long before the soft vibration and lack of excitement pushed me into a near-sleep.

I wondered what had happened to Jim and Logan. Hopefully they hadn't figured out he was a mutant like me and let him go. Made him promise not to tell or something. I still felt terrible, it was all because of me they had gotten hurt.

I wish I had never left Mrs. Santos house. For some reason they hadn't found me there. I had been safe, until I decided to leave on this hair brained mission. At least I knew I was going to the Lab now. I could still kick some butt, and I knew there were more mutants out there who needed my help.

After a few hours of me and my heroic thoughts, I fell asleep. When I woke up, there were voices floating around my ear like frightened gnats.

"Is it dead?"

"No it's still breathing."

"Are you sure that thing is real?"

"Of course it's real, now feed him and let's get back on the road." I recognized James voice this time.

I heard something roll towards me. And opened my eye to see a bright red apple. The door to the van closed and I caught of green forests, with trees so tall I couldn't see the tops. It looked marshy.

I bit into the apple ruefully. This was nothing compared to the breakfast I had at Jim's. But at least it was food and you guessed it, I was hungry.

It took a few seconds for me to register something, the normal itchy prickly feeling I usually got from the new feathers that had grown up the back of my neck was gone. I craned around to see the all the feathers on my back were just those on my wings on my shoulders. All the new ones had disappeared. This made me feel somewhat better.

I'm pretty sure it was late at night when we stopped. I was nodding off, my head banging softly against the side. I had tried to escape, but the rope wasn't normal twine, but nylon, and I gave up trying to cut through it.

Though my wings ached to be up in the air, staying in the same position for to long cramped my muscles.

I was had just slipped into a light slumber when something was jabbed into my ribs. I gasped and woke up, rubbing the sore spot ruefully.

Two men had opened the back of the door. One held a stick, the other, a tranquilizer gun. There was a prick on my side. The last thing I saw was stars of the night sky.

When I woke up, I was in what can only be described as a cage. I couldn't really stand, but I was happy to find the nylon rope was gone and I could move again.

There wasn't a lot of light, but I saw three of the walls were cement, The last was metal mesh stuff. If I peered through it, I could make out a large circular room. But it was to dark.

I still had my original clothes, but my backpack was gone. Besides that, the room was equipped with a fold out bed and lavatory. These people sure know how to decorate, am I right? Or am I right?

With nothing better to do, I laid down on the thin, kind-of-comfy bed and stared up at the ceiling. I shivered when a drop fell through and hit my nose.

What was I going to do now?

I hadn't meant for James to actually catch me, I would have to escape this place, and take whoever I found with me.

It was a long time before I fell asleep again.
