Dean sat at a table in a diner looking for cases with Piper, who was STILL waiting for the tea she had ordered. The pretty blonde waitress came back for, what seemed like, the tenth time. Every time Piper ordered the woman would start flirting with Dean instead of doing her job. She didn't really mind the flirting itself, she was used to THAT. When she was little, Dean had even used her as a "chick-magnet", to pick up babes. She did feel the waitress was showing WAY too much cleavage for comfort, though. Those things didn't usually bother her too much. What bothered her was that Wendy wouldn't bring her her tea.
Her brothers drank beer and coffee. In fact, that seemed to be all they drank. But Piper just didn't understand why they liked plain coffee so much. Tea was much better to her and if she needed more energy she would probably buy some sort of energy drink. And she couldn't drink beer for obvious reasons.
This woman was depriving Piper her Tea and she would not stand for it! She walked over Sam and told him. When they walked back to the table the waitress, Wendy, was there checking to see if Dean needed anything, again. "Can I get you anything else?" 'Yeah,' thought Piper, 'my tea that I asked for thirty minutes ago.' This time she had asked both brothers. Sam nodded stiffly and glared at her, not phased by her looks, "Yeah, the check and how about you give my sister the tea she asked for half an hour ago, to go." Wendy nodded and left to, finally, get Piper her tea. Piper could have hugged Sam and strangled the waitress for obeying when her brother asked. Dean looked at Sam, "You know, Sam, we're aloud to have fun every once and a while." Dean pointed at Wendy, "That's fun." Piper scoffed, "You aren't aloud when the waitress you are trying to have 'fun' with doesn't even have the decency to do her job. You better not tip her." Dean agrees just to stop her from going on a tea rant....again.
Dean showed his siblings the article. Piper skimmed through the article and looked at Dean in slight confusion, "A drowning?" Dean nods, "Yeah, Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin. Sophie Carlton,18, walks into the lake, doesn't walk out. Authorities dragged the water; nothing. Sophie is the third to die in the lake this year. None of the other victim's bodies were found either. They had a funeral two days ago." Sam looked confused, "A funeral?" Dean nodded, "Yeah they buried an empty coffin. For, uh, closure or something." Sam's voice hardened, "Closure? What closure? People disappear, Dean. Other people stop looking for them." Dean looked at Sammy, having picked up on the meaning behind his words, "Something you want to say to me?" Piper mentally sighed. They had been having this argument for a while. Piper absolutely HATED it when her brothers fought, because she loved them so much. They would always try and get her to choose too. It was like they were unknowingly fighting over her approval in every argument, she understood though.
Dean and Sam have their moments together too, like when she was 6 and some older kid thought it would be a good Idea to pick on the new Winchester girl for not having a mom and living in a motel while she was waiting for her brothers to pick her up from school. And the kid then proceeded to try to beat her up (be reminded she had only just started training and this kid was MUCH larger than her).
The kid punched her a couple times and when he paused for a breath, Piper had just enough time to scream: "SAMMY! DEAN!" This time when the kid went to punch her, a hand caught his fist and push him backwards onto the sidewalk and the two brothers had a lovely time beating the crap out of the idiot who picked a fight with a Winchester. Piper smiled at the memory, but was quickly snapped back to reality. Sam looked at Dean, "Dad's trail is getting colder everyday." Dean nodded, "Exactly, so what are we supposed to do?" Sam shook his head, "I don't know. Something. Anything." Dean glared, "You know what? I'm sick of this attitude. You don't think me and Piper want to find dad just as much as you do?"
Sam glanced at Piper who had been looking back and forth between her brothers nervously and was now looking terrified at having been brought into the conversation, "Yeah, I know it's just-" Dean cut him off, "We're the ones that's been with him every single days for the past two years, while you've been off going to pep rallies-" This time Piper cut in, "Dean! That's enough. Stop berating him for going to college and following his dreams. Dad was the one that told him not to come back. So it's not his fault. And Sam, we all want to find him, but we can't just let everything evil have a 'Stay Out of Hell' free card, just because daddy's gone AWOL."
Dean nodded, "Yeah, we will find Dad, but until then, we're gonna kill everything bad between here and there. Okay?" Wendy walks over and gives Piper her tea, if not a little reluctantly, and distracts both of the siblings. Sam agreed with Dean, "Alright, Lake Manitoc. Hey!" Dean and Piper look back at him, "Huh?" "How far?"

*Time Skip*
In no time the three siblings pass a sign that says "Welcome to Lake Manitoc!" in big letters. They pull into the drive way of the Carlton's house and walk to the door and a man answers. Dean asks him if he's Will Carlton and the man nods. They introduce themselves as their fake names, this time they decided to be apart of the U.S Wildlife Service, since Piper pointed out that it would raise suspicion if the FBI checked out a seemingly average drowning.
They followed Will out back where you could easily see Bill Carlton, the victim's father sitting on the deck, just watching the water that took his daughter away. Will started to explain, "She was about a hundred yards out. That's where she got dragged down." Dean looked at him, "And your sure she didn't just drown?" They couldn't waste time on a regular drowning. Will didn't change his mind though, "Yeah. She was a varsity swimmer." They asked a few more questions. They wanted to talk to the father, but Will said that he was grieving and they respected the man's wishes.
They got in the car and Piper sighed as she lounged in the back seat, "Well, that was a bust. Judging from the body count and the fact Will said she was grabbed, it's obviously not a normal drowning, but from what he told us, the people aren't disappearing because the Loch Ness Monster is tired of eating seafood." Sam nodded, "Well, I don't know about Nessy, but it could have been some other creature from lore that lives on lakes. I'm not sure if we should rule out anything based on the opinion of one guy. He did say he barely saw it." She shook her head, "Whatever you say Sam." She had a feeling that a few people in this town weren't as innocent as they appeared. She slouched in her seat. A small, perfect-looking place like this always had something to hide...

*Time skip (SHERIFF'S OFFICE)*
The Sheriff seemed confused when they introduced themselves, "What does the wildlife service care about an accidental drowning." "Are you sure it was an accident? Will Carlton said something grabbed her." The Sheriff waved it off, "Will Carlton was traumatized and sometimes the mind plays tricks." The Sheriff, Jake, sat down, "Still, we dragged that entire lake. Even ran a sonar sweep just to be sure."
Dean nodded casually, "Yeah, that's weird though, I mean, that's the third missing body this year." The Jake agreed, "I know. These are people from my town, people I care about." "I know." Repeats Dean. "Anyway," Jake sighs, "it won't be a problem anymore." "what do you mean?" The sheriff looked at Dean in confusion, "The dam of course!" "Of course, the dam it's uh..." Piper chimed in, "It's falling apart. They're opening a spill way to drain it to protect the town." Piper shook her head. She had tried to tell Dean about it on the way over, but he hadn't listened. She turned to Jake, "Sorry, he never reads the memos. I don't know why I even bother sending them." Dean pointed at her, "Hey, I knew that I just-" They were interrupted by a woman walking into the office, "Sorry, am interrupting something?" Sam, Dean, and Piper stand up and they shake hands with the woman as Jake introduces her as his daughter, Andrea Barr and explains why they were there. From behind Andrea comes out a little boy. Dean smiles, "Hi there. Whats your name?" The boy looked at him and turned away, hiding behind his mother once again. Andrea smiles apologetically, his name is Lucas." She brings her son to the other room to color and Sam turns to the sheriff, "Is he okay?" Jake looked down, "My grandson has been through a lot. We all have." Not wanting to overstretch their limits, they didn't question him any further.
Jake escorts them to the door, "Well of there's anything else I can do for you please let me no." Sam and Piper nodded politely, but Dean saw this as an opportunity to flirt with Andrea, "Thanks. You know, now that you mention it, could you point us in the direction of a reasonably priced motel." Andrea nods, "Lankfront Motel. Go around the corner. It's about two blocks south." "Two- Would you mind showing us?" Piper gave Dean an exasperated look, but Andrea laughed, "You want me to walk you two blocks?" "If it isn't too much trouble." "I'm headed that way anyway."
Before Sam and Piper even knew what happened, they were following Andrea to the hotel. Piper and Sam roll their eyes in unison as Dean's flirting starts, "So, cute kid." Andrea's answer was simple, "Thanks."Dean continues, "Kids are the best, huh?" Piper nearly laughs out right, but Dean elbows her and it turns into a not-so-subtle coughing fit. Dean may be good with kids, but she definitely knew that that was a lie. Andrea just ignores him and Piper grinned. She didn't have a problem with Dean flirting, but that didn't mean she didn't absolutely love it whenever it didn't work.
They stopped in front of a building, 'The Lakefront Motel.' Andrea turns to them, "There it is like I said. Two blocks." Sad nods, "Thanks." She addresses Dean with a smile, that looked a bit cheeky, "Must be hard with your sense of direction. Never being able to find your way to a decent pick up line." That, combined with Dean's dumbfounded look was too much for Piper. She bursted into laughter and high fived Andrea, "BURN!" The girls shared an evil look and Andrea strides away, basking in her victory. Dean narrowed his eyes at Piper and grumbled a few choice words. She rolled her eyes, "Oh come on Dean. You don't need to get laid every week and I did not do anything to cause her to do that. I just enjoyed it immensely, especially after the Wendy the waitress incident. It was a good comeback!"
Dean crossed his arms and Sam added with a chuckle, "And what's with that 'Kids are the best' crap? You don't even like kids." Dean huffed, "I love kids." Sam gave him a knowing look, "Name three children you even know." Dean opened his mouth, but Piper cut in with a accusing look, "And, so help me, if you say 'Piper' I will end you." He put his hands up in surrender, but failed to come up with any child's name. Sam walked away, exasperated and Dean shouted after him, "I'm thinking!" Piper patted Dean's pack in playful apology.
The trio sat in their motel room. Dean was going through his clothes and Sam was on his laptop with Piper looking over his shoulder. Sam found the information he was looking for, "So, there's the three drowning victims this year." Dean nodded, "Any before that?" Sam nodded, "Um, yeah." Sam clicked on a link, 'The Lake Maintoc Tribune.' Sam continued, "Six more drownings have happened in that lake over the last 35 years. Those bodies weren't found either." Piper's put a hand on his shoulder, "So that means what ever this thing is, it's killing people more and more frequently." Sam nodded.
Dean tossed a shirt on his bed, "So, what, we got a lake monster on a binge?" Sam bit his lip in thought, "I don't know, Dean. This whole lake monster theory it, it just bugs me. I think Piper might be right." "As always!", added Piper. Sam snorted, but continued anyways, "Loch Ness, uh, Lake Champlain, there are literally hundreds of eye witness accounts, but here, almost nothing. Whatever it is, no one lives to tell the tale." Piper nodded, "That's a good point. A sea serpent or dinosaur thing isn't really that easy to hide or over look, no matter how big something is. It wouldn't drag you under the water, it would bring it's head up to the surface and swallow you up, which obviously didn't happen, and I doubt that there would only be nine drownings. AND the sheriff said they scanned the lake. There is no way, that there is a gigantic lake monster in there or even a medium sized one. I'm not saying there's no way a sea serpent or Lake monster couldn't be real, but this isn't an endless ocean or an incredibly large lake, there's no way."
Dean whistled, "Geez, you sure had an opinion on that, didn't you Pipes?" She blushed, "Shut up, Dean!" Dean walks over and ruffles Pipers hair. Sam scrolled down to the comments section and Dean pointed at a name, "Wait, Barr, Christian Barr. Where have I heard that name?" Piper was asking herself the same question. Sam reads the page, "He's the victim in May." He typed some more. Piper gasped and covered her mouth, "Oh no...Andrea and Lucas! That's their last name." Sam brought up an article about Christopher, "Yeah, he was Andrea's husband, Luke's father. Apparently, he took Lucas put swimming. Lucas was on a floating platform when Chris died. Two hours before the kid got rescued." Piper closed her eyes. Poor kid. She made a silent prayer for Chris and promised to protect his son while she was here. It was the least she could do.
Sam sighed, "Maybe we have an eyewitness after all." Dean whistled, "No wonder that kid was so freaked out. Watching one of your parents die isn't something you just get over." Piper looked at him and leaned into his side, putting her head in his shoulder and his arm wrapped around her. Piper wondered if he realized the weight his words held.
---The Next day---
The next day, the Winchesters ventured to the park, hoping to get some answers. Piper watched as kids laughed and played and chase each other in almost fascination. Finally, they spotted Andrea, who was watching Lucas color and play with toy soldiers. They walk over, "Can we join you?" Andrea looked up with a smile, "Hey Piper!" Piper waved back and the brothers wondered how they had managed to become friends so fast. Andrea turned to the boys, "I'm here with my son." Dean grinned, "Mind if I say 'hi'?" He didn't wait for an answer and Piper looked at Andrea assuringly, "Don't worry. I'll make sure he behaves." She ran after her older brother.
Dean approaches Lucas, "How's it going?" Lucas ignored him. Piper eyed one of the soldiers and elbowed her brother, "Hey, does that bring up memories?" He smiled and picked up one of the toy solders, "Oh I used to love these things." Lucas still didn't react. Dean nodded, "So crayons are more your thing. That's cool. Chick's dig artist." Piper giggled, "Mind if we join you?" Dean nodded, "I'm not so bad myself." Piper shook her head, "You little liar."
They sat down and started drawing and Piper glanced up, "You know, we're thinking you can hear us, you just don't wanna talk. That's fine. We'll talk. I have no idea what happened to your dad. Something really bad, I guess. Me and Dean, believe it or not, can relate. We both saw something when we were about your age." Lucas paused and, maybe it was the emotion in her voice, but he actually looked her in the eye for a second, before looking back down.
Dean continued for his sister, "Anyway, you don't think anyone will listen to you or, uh, believe you. Like she said, you don't have to talk. You can draw us a picture of what you saw that day. Okay no problem. Here." He handed him his picture, a stick figure family, "This is my family. That's my mom, my dad, my geek brother, my ninja-dork sister-" Piper punched his shoulder and he grinned ruefully, "and that's me. Alright, I'm a sucky artist." Piper passed Lucas her's, "This is a picture of me and my mom before she...you know. She was like an angel. We're picking tulips. I may not be a award winning artist, but I'm definitely better than Dean." Dean picked it up, "It's good. I like my drawing better, though." The siblings sighed, "Thanks for listening." Piper hugged the boy and whispered in his ear, "We can stop this thing Lucas, but not alone. If you ever feel like talking or drawing, odds are this won't be our last encounter." She began to pull back only for him to grab her and pull her to him one last time and she smiled.
The two walked away and Dean slung an arm around her shoulder and pulled her to him, "You did good, sis." Sam and Andrea were talking about Lucas and Post traumatic stress disorder. Andrea was speaking, "We moved in with my dad. He helps put a lot. It's just...when I think about what he went through...what he saw." Dean glanced at his sister, "Kids are strong. you'd be surprised what they can deal with." They talk a little more, Piper doesn't really pay any attention until Lucas runs up to her and Dean and hands Dean a picture, "Thanks Lucas." Lucas quickly hugs Piper's legs before running back, like nothing happened. Andrea raises an eyebrow in surprise. Dean says goodbye to Andrea and shows it to the siblings. It's a picture of the Carlton house.
