A Night at the Club: Part 5
I'm sorry it took so long to get the part up. I've been really busy working and reading all your stories as well. I hope you enjoy. It took me a while to sort out how this scene would play out, so I hope it came out okay.
Zorell made her way to the ladies' room to freshen up, while Lolly was taking a break. She didn't want to miss one minute of the show. It wasn't every day she got to see a famous singer perform in person. It gave her a chance to freshen up her makeup and touch up her hair.
The bathroom was pretty much empty which made her somewhat at ease. She hated putting on makeup and brushing her hair in front of an audience. After putting on some final touches, she looked up to see a porcelain clock hanging in front of the entrance to the bathroom. It was designed to match the theme of the establishment, a blue orchid. She was amazed by the attention to detail of this place. She felt that it was designed with her specifically in mind, right down to the flower arrangement, but it was silly for her to think that, because Gavin had the club long before he met her. Still, she liked the idea that somehow it was designed just for her.
She felt a little tired and noticed there was a lady's lounge and thought she would sit down and have a few quite moments to herself before returning to the table where she felt she was on somewhat of a display.
The lounge looked so inviting, with its off white and powder blue chairs and long flower printed sofa facing a glass table with a single orchid etched on each corner. The plush pillows were so soft she found herself drifting off for a moment.
After what seemed like a few minutes, Zorell felt a shadow come over her and her eyes popped open. There she saw a dark-haired man standing there. At first, she thought that it was Gavin, but on close inspection she realized that it wasn't him at all.
"Good evening, Miss Dupree, he said in a formal way which made her suspicious. What was he doing here in the ladies' lounge? Wasn't there some rule about men not be permitted. Then she thought that might be silly seeing that this was, after all, a speakeasy.
"Who are you?" she asked as she rose to a sitting position. Before she could protest, he was sitting next to her.
She felt uneasy having him sitting so close, but she thought it might be impolite to move away. It was an old childhood teaching of good manners that kept her frozen in her spot.
"Olivia told me all about you," he said, moving his hand towards her. "It's not right for a chat to leave a lady all alone."
He came even closer to her and she tried to move away, but he grabbed her arm. "I have to go," she said, trying to escape him. "Someone is waiting for me."
"Don't you worry about Gav, Livi will keep him busy, while we get better acquainted," he said, trying to pull her down on the sofa.
She struggled to get free but he held her arms down and made it difficult for her to move. He tried moving his body on top of her, but she kneed him between the legs loosening his hold on her until he let go and fell to the floor. She slid off the sofa and rose to her feet. With her legs shaking, she feared that she might fall to the floor and held onto a nearby chair.
She stood there frozen staring down at the man who attacked her. She would have stayed that way if it wasn't for the fact that someone had called out her name.
"Zorell!" She turned her head to see Gavin enter the room with two other young men. He raced to her side with concern in his eyes. "Are you alright?"
"Yes, I'm fine," she said, feeling like the strength in her legs were coming back. "I'm not sure about him." She pointed to the man on the floor writhing in pain.
"Boys, get him out of here," Gavin said, and the two young men took to his command and attended to the man who attacked Zorrell.
Gavin's men picked up the perpetrator who was struggling to get loose, but they had a good hold on him. They lifted him to his feet and forced him to face they employer. He spit in Gavin's face, which he quickly wiped away and flung it back at him, hitting him in the eye.
"Chaz," he said and punched him, hitting his cheek. He didn't break the skin, but it would leave a visible bruise. After the impact, the man's head hung as Gavin's men kept a tight grip on him. "If you ever touch her again, I'll kill you." Something told Zorell that it was not an idle threat.
The man just laughed at him as the men carried him away.
After he was gone, Zorrell gave a sigh of relief. She looked up at Gavin who still had concern in his eyes.
"Are you sure you're alright?" he asked, reaching out for her hand. She nodded without saying anything. "If he had hurt you..."
"He tried, but I... ah... sort of kicked him," she said and gave a smile awkward smile. "That's why he was on the floor."
Gavin burst out laughing. "All this time I thought I was coming to a rescue."
"It was a nice gesture," she said and moved to take his hand. He only slightly touched it, when she felt a sharp pain on her wrist.
"He did hurt you," he said as she rubbed her wrist. She could see a bruise forming.
"It's not more than a sprain," she said and sat down in one of the chairs. "I just need something to wrap it."
"I'll get something," he said and walked to the far side of the room where there was a small linen closet. The maid was usually the only one to use its contents, seeing they only kept cleaning rags and solutions in there.
He brought the rags over to her. "You'll have to do this," she said and he leaned down on the floor and she gave him instructions on how to wrap it properly.
"Did I do alright?" he asked. He wasn't good at doctoring and felt a little out of his element.
"You did fine," she said, and she held her wrist out so nothing was touching it. "Doctor Gavin Lorio is on duty."
He rolled his eyes at the thought. "I'm so sorry this happened."
"This wasn't your fault," she said, trying to reassure him.
"I just wanted this to be a fun night for you, and Chaz had to ruin it," he said with a look of disappointment in his face.
"It has been," she said with a smile on her face. "...and exciting."
"Still, I think I should take you home, after being injured and all."
"I'm fine," she said, not really wanting to leave. "See." She tried turning her wrist, but felt a sharp pain pulsate through her arm.
"Zorell, don't be stubborn," he said, and she had to agree with him. She needed proper treatment for her injury, she just feared what Miss Kastor would say when she found out.
"Alright," she said, and he helped her to her feet. He led her out of the club and out to his car careful not to bump her injury.
After they were inside the car, she saw that he had a disappointed look on his face. "Gavin, I need you to know that I really did have a good time tonight."
A smile came to his face. "Then you wouldn't mind doing it again sometime?"
"I would love to." With her last words, he started the car on a happier note. Despite the pain in her wrist, she didn't want to change anything about that night.
This might be the end of this chapter, but I'm thinking of adding another seen after Zorrell returns home. What do you think? Leave your suggestions in the comments, and thanks for reading.
