Chapter Sixteen
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Family

"Estoy tratando de enseñarte español, gilipollas-"
The mood in my house was calm for the first time in months, and I had my first chance to relax as well. With a mixture of chasing after Victoria, and having to physically restrain myself from fighting the bloodsuckers we were forced to work with, I didn't get a lot of down time.
My boyfriend stared back at me with a confusion evident on his annoyingly handsome face. Embry totally understands the whole relaxation thing, but he wanted me to tech him Spanish, since he is getting a little tired of Alyssa and I talking about him when he is right next to me. He has absolutely no grasp of another language, which I don't know if I like or not. "What?"
I laughed, leaning my head back and shifting so I was closer to him on the couch we were sharing. "You have to roll your r's."
Instead, he rolled his eyes, a light smirk playing at his lips. "Babe, I think we already determined that I can't do that."
"You gotta try, or Spanish is a lost cause for you," I teased, wiggling my eyebrows as Embry lightly pushed my arm. "Try, say perro."
A clueless look.
"It means dog."
Embry scoffed, "I knew that." He shook his head slightly, although I think he both knew he didn't have a clue. I laughed again, playfully rolling my tongue just to taunt him.
He jumped forward, shutting me up by smashing his lips onto mine. I laughed lightly, snaking my hand around his neck, knowing the extent my boyfriend would go through to not have to do work.
"Ew! Get a room!"
Embry pulled away quickly, his face bright red, as I shot my sister an annoyed look. "We did until you showed up."
She gave me a coy grin in response, sticking out her tongue right as Quil walked in, holding a whisk in one hand, oats stuck in his head. I sighed deeply. Yes, Quil and Alyssa phased literally on the same day, and they also imprinted said day... on each other. Something that, I'll admit, I wasn't too thrilled about at first.
Hey, I'm a big brother, it's my job to be concerned. I eventually remembered that Quil was my best friend, and relaxed slightly. Also, after Alyssa called me a 'helicopter mom'.
"Announcement... I can not cook."
"Yeah, we know!" Embry shouted back, as I chucked a pillow at the boy, who caught it easily in his fingers and threw it back. "You've been telling us for like, ten years now!"
"Well now, it is unraveling before my very eyes," he hit the whisk against his side, making a cloud of flour fly up and make him cough. I turned to Alyssa, giving her a, really? look. She smirked in response, walking over to hug Quil around the waist.
"You're such a loser."
"You still love me."
She pulled a face, a smile tugging at her lips. She turned back to me, "try and keep it PG." She requested, and by her tone I honestly couldn't tell if she was joking or not. I rolled my eyes as the door swung shut.
"The joys of having younger sisters," I mumbled, and Embry laughed lightly as a crash, and a loud "ow!" came from the other room. I winced, "and a Quil."
"He's basically a little sister."
"Yeah, basically."
"I heard that!" Came a fleeting yell from the opposite room, making Embry and I burst into laughter, leaning back on the couch. Maybe relaxation wasn't the best option for me... I guess that is okay, though.
"Can you say the periodic table in Spanish?"
"Hidrógeno-"
"Put your pants on!" A new voice called out, before the door swung open and Paul and Jared swooped in. I groaned again, and Embry sat up straighter as Paul, for unknown reasons, did a cartwheel in the middle of our living room, and then grinned at us as if waiting for an applause. "I have been practicing."
"It's true," A feminine voice agreed, and I was surprised when Kim, Jared's imprint, walked in, holding a spatula covered in what I presumed to be cookie dough. She took a bite, and Jared came up behind her, managing to almost fit the entire spatula in his mouth, making Kim giggle. "He broke one of my lamps."
"Which is why we brought him here, so he is your problem now." Jared grinned through his mouthful of cookie dough. I rolled my eyes, a habit I was growing accustomed to, and made a bunch of random sounds to make Paul look at me.
"If you break anything, one of the females in my house will murder you."
As if proving my point, Alyssa and Quil came into the room, the former crossing her arms and glaring at Paul so intensely I was just waiting for him to burst into flames. "You break my stuff your head gets mounted on the wall."
"Damn," Paul muttered, inching away from Alyssa cautiously, "you're scary."
It made me laugh to see Paul call my little sister scary, although I think I new it was the truth. We're all family now, a weird family... but a family.
That is something I could get used too.

The wind stung my eyes, trained on the blur of red hair in front of me. She was so close, close enough that her stench was making my nose burn, but not close enough for me to get a firm hold.
Victoria turned back for just a slit second, long enough to flash me a coy smirk, which was enough to make my heartbeat spike, and images of ripping her head off filling my mind.
There goes Tony with his psychopathic tendencies again.
Shut up, Paul!
Said Paul managed to catch up to me, growling at the bloodsucker that was so close, yet so far away from reach. On the other side of the river, the Cullen's ran alongside us. I recognized Jasper Hale and Edward Cullen near the front, but the one who reminded me of a bear... Emmett I think his name is, was advancing steadily. Alice, the pixie one who didn't like me, seemed to literally be jumping in between the trees, and the blonde female... ugh I can't remember her name, kept glaring at us from the corner of her eyes.
They think they're fast... they can barely keep up.
Victoria dodged around a tree, leaping over a overturned root. Paul and I were close behind, clearing the jump with ease, despite Quil's quite detailed inner commentary of what was going on in front of him.
I heard one of their obnoxiously melodic voices shout something, and then Victoria jumped across the river, leaving her in the hands of the bloodsuckers. Jasper almost got his arms around her, but she shot straight up into the tree's, making him swear loudly in a language that I think was French.
We ran.
My legs weren't even sore yet, which I took note of, given the fact that in my previous life, running this far would leave me half dead. Instead I just felt... alive. I think that might just be the best feeling of all.
It didn't last long.
Victoria jumped onto a rock, on our side of the border, at a perfect forty-five degree angle, and right as Paul jumped for her, so did Emmett.
A string of various creative curse words, some in English, some Spanish, flooded through my mind as Paul and Emmett collided with a deafening bang. Victoria scurried off, as Paul growled at the bloodsucker, looking just about ready to drop some heavy-duty fighting moves. I wanted him too... that little bitch just trespassed on our land. Something that our treaty speaks strictly against.
I growled, prepping myself to jump down there, when a loud order for us to stand down came from Sam. I, as much as I didn't want too, internally insulted the bloodsucker, but obeyed my Alpha and backed my back paws up until I was moved up and standing next to the almost identical wolf to mine. Smaller, more lithe, but still Alyssa.
Paul wasn't going to let this go.
And those bloodsuckers just gave me another reason to not trust them.
