Chapter 6 You Better Watch it Agreste

           Oden's  POV:

Oden recalls how he saw Adrien with Marinette recently. He is not too happy about this at all.  Why should he be when Marinette is his girl, not that blonde boy's girl.

He thinks I will have to find some way to get her attention. The thing is he is not sure how or when is the best time to approach her.  It is not like she will be alone when she has a child.

Funny he does not recall any mention of her having a daughter, but plain as day one was with her when she met up with her old friend.

Oden scowls as he says, "You Better Watch it Agreste if you know what is good for you."

           Marinette's POV:

Marinette knows it has been a few days since she last saw Adrien.

She figures maybe she should see if he minds watching Bethany for her.  This way she can go on a few errands without her daughter tagging along.  For some reason, she feels like it will be better than taking her with her.

Marinette grabs her purse, and says to her daughter, "Come on Bethany, let us go see if Adrien can baby-sit you for a bit."

"Adrien, babysit me, mom I am five," She scowls.

"Maybe so, but I think that you should stay with him for a few hours," Marinette says.

"Ok," Bethany states. She thinks the whole thing is odd that her mother should want her to stay at Adrien's all of a sudden.

                Bethany's  POV:
Bethany wonders why her mother insists she stays at Adrien's.   She could have asked her grandparents to watch her, right?  So why send her to her friend's house?  She shrugs her shoulders as they head in that direction.

She smiles as her mom rings the doorbell to the place where Adrien says. To call it a place is a bit of an exaggeration as he has a mansion.

"Mom, do you think he is even home?"  Bethany asks.

"Bethany, why do you want to find out?"  Marinette asks her.

                Adrien's  POV:
The door opens and Adrien smiles when he sees them.

"Wow, what brings my two favorite girls here?"  Adrien asks.

"Adrien, could you watch Bethany for a few hours so I can shop by myself?" Marinette asks. She sure hopes this will not be an inconvenience for him.

"Marinette, I would be glad to keep an eye on her for you," Adrien says with a grin.

" Oh, thanks Adrien, I owe you one," Marinette says.

"Sure thing, Mari," Adrien replies with a blush across his face.

"See you later, mom,"  Bethany says.

Adrien closes the door, locks it and thinks it strange Marinette would request him as a sitter since her parents still live in town.  He thought she would have asked them to take care of her child.  So, why him?

         Marinette's POV:

Marinette leaves to go on her errands. She arrives safely at the store.  She goes inside with her shopping cart and buys some groceries. Then, she goes to pay for them. When she finishes she heads out to the car. She loads up her stuff and drives off.

She goes back to her place and unloads the food. Once she finishes putting it away, she locks the door behind her, gets back in her car, and drives to her parent's bakery. She is glad to see they still have it after all this time.

A few minutes later, "Mom, and Dad, are you home?"

"Marinette, it is great to see you!" Her father, Tom says.

"Yes, look how grown-up you are," Her mother, Sabine remarks.

"Mom, Bethany wants to meet you, but I left her with Adrien for the moment," She says.

"Adrien, as in the Adrien, your old high school crush?" Sabine asks.

"Adrien is a fine young gentleman,"  Tom agrees.

"Mom and Dad, stop it.  It is not like that Adrien and I are just friends.  I just needed a few moments to shop and drop by to see you without bringing my five year old along that is all," Marinette responds.

"We would like to see Bethany soon," Sabine says.

"Yes, we sure would like to see our granddaughter in person," Tom replies.

"Do not worry, I will bring her to see you soon," Marinette tells them.

      "Good, you better,"  Sabine answers.

      Sabine and Tom's  POV:

Adrien is good for Marinette and is about time she saw so for herself. He always did like our daughter. This is what goes on in their heads as Marinette visits them for a bit.

The two think it is nice to hear that Bethany does not mind staying at Adrien's or that he agreed to watch her.  Then again they would have been happy to do so themselves.

Tom believes it would be great if Marinette went on a date with Adrien. However, from the sound of things, it appears his daughter does not think of him that way.  Funny how she could just behave this way around him after all this time apart from him.

Sabine thinks it is a shame Marinette does not want to be with Adrien since he obviously loves her.  She also knows better than to interfere with her daughter's love life. She smiles.

An hour later, Marinette checks her watch and gasps when she sees what time it is now.

"Well, Marinette, tell Adrien we said hello," Tom says.

"I second that sweetie," Sabine states.

"Mom, and Dad, it was great to catch up with you, but goodness look at the time," She says.

"Awe, you have to go already,"  Tom remarks.

"Yes, but I will come by again, later," She says. She heads out the door to go pick up Bethany.

        Narrator's POV:

Adrien and Bethany had a blast while Marinette was busy. The two ate popcorn, drank cola, and watched a movie. Then, Adrien listened as Bethany told him a story about the day they left China to come back to Paris.

This was something that Adrien did not think he would ever experience. It was rather nice, but awkward as well. Here he was having time alone with Marinette's daughter, but the thing was he would not mind her being his child too. He blushed at the thought.

Bethany could sense something bothered Adrien since he grew quiet all of a sudden. She hopes it is not because she talks so much. It is just she likes spending time with him and she secretly ships him and her mother together.

        Oden's  POV:

Oden saw Marinette's car pull up in the mansion's driveway for the second time that day.  He could understand why she should pay this guy a visit twice in a row.  It was not like her to be such an unfaithful person.  He should know since they had been together once.

He watches as she gets out, closes the door, locks the car, and rings the doorbell. He would speak to her then but somehow does not think this would work out so well. Not when she is outside her place.  But mark his words he will speak to her soon and when he does Agreste better not be around cause if he is then he better watch it.

"You better be ready, honey, cause I am coming for you," Oden says. Then, he drives off in his car.  He thinks it is a good thing it is a new model so she does not recognize it as his.  This way she will be spooked.

           Adrien's POV:

Adrien hears the doorbell ring, so he gladly opens it. He is glad to see Marinette, then frowns as a jeep pulls away at the same time. He could have sworn whoever it was had his eyes on Marinette. This makes Adrien feel rather unsure how to handle himself around her.  He knows what he said, but who on earth was this guy?

"Marinette, do come inside," Adrien says.

Marinette steps inside without a word and pulls the door closed behind her. She smiles until she sees the look Adrien gives her.  She wonders what on earth it is that troubles him.

"Adrien, what is the matter?  Did something happen while I was out?" Marinette asks.

"Now that you mention it yes, some man came by in a jeep, but it seems he knows you," Adrine says.

"Hmm, that is strange I do not know anyone who drives a jeep," Marinette says.

"Well, he was staring at you when you arrived just now, then drove off when I spoke to you,"  Adrien tells her.

"Wow, that is odd," Marinette responds.

Adrien thinks he must not let that guy whoever he is harm Marinette. He will do what he can to see to it that he does not cause any harm to her or her daughter.  He shudders to think about what could become of his love and her child if he does not.

     Marinette's POV:

"Bethany, it is time to go home," Marinette says.

"Awe, Mom, but I want to stay here," Bethany says with pleading eyes.

"Sorry, but you have taken up a lot his time already," Marinette says.

     "Oh, okay, then," Bethany says.

"What do you say if we go see your grandparents tomorrow?" Marinette asks.

"Yes, I get to meet my grandma and grandpa,"  Bethany says excitedly.

Marinette hears Adrien sigh as if he feels like an intruder in his home. She thinks the notion to be quite silly.  It is her and Bethany who do not belong here after all.    She smiles as she thanks Adrien for watching Bethany.

"Sure, Mari, it was nice," Adrien says. He looks as if he wishes to say more, but does not.

"Yes, mom it was swell," Bethany agrees.

"Wow, you two became such fast friends then," Marinette says.

"What do you expect Mom, he is nice," Bethany states.

Marinette laughs at the remark as she recalls how she used to say the same to Alya in the past.  She must admit the irony of it all makes her feel a bit amused.  Who would have thought her daughter would have a crush on Adrien Agreste?

"Yes, he is, but we must go now," Marinette says.

           Adrien's POV:
Adrien smiles at the knowledge that both Marinette and Bethany agree he is nice. This must count for something, right?

Bethany yawns but grabs her mother's hand.  "Bye, mister, Adrien," Bethany says.

"Bye, Bethany!  Bye, M-Marinette!" Adrien remarks. He closes the door after they leave. He sighs as he locks the door and thinks about how much Bethany reminds him of her mother.  He hopes maybe in time Marinette will see him as more than a friend.

           Marinette's  POV:

As Marinette pulls into her driveway a few minutes later, she notices Bethany has fallen asleep in her car seat. She also sees a jeep not far from them. She thinks that is odd is that the same one Adrien told me about earlier?

Marinette turns the car off along with the lights, keeps the car doors shut, and decides not to leave the car for now. She is not sure what to do.  She is glad Bethany is still asleep at least this way her child is not afraid like she is right now.
