Chapter Six
We walked on through the corridor in silence. I was still fuming at Mackenzie, and Camrin looked pretty pissed off as well. We still had a good fifteen minutes before our next class, and I begged the heavens to not let me cross Mackenzie's path again. We were now outside the school which boasted a long stretch of grass dotted with trees and shrubs. We walked over to a nicely shaded patch of grass, and sat down. I was racking my brain on how to break the ice so I said,
"Cami, huh?" That's the best you can do Niya? I silently scolded myself. I hoped that I didn't upset him any further. His eyes flashed to mine angrily and then he sighed while passing his hands through his hair.
"It's a nick name I used to love," he said lightly.
"Sorry I didn't mean to bring up bad memories," I apologized.
"Nah, it's okay. Who told you though.. about the break up?" he asked, picking grass from the ground and letting it fall through his fingers. A light breeze was blowing, and he watched as it lifted the blades off in a twirling motion.
"Kaylie."
"Ha," he scoffed smiling to himself.
"What?"
"Whatever Kaylie told you isn't accurate"
"Oh. So will you tell me what truly happened then?" He smiled again pushing his hair out of his eyes.
"It depends."
"On what?"
"Trust." We locked eyes for a while, and then I looked away smiling.
"What about you? What's your story?" he asked turning his whole body to me.
What's my story? I asked myself. I have a magic bracelet.
"Umm.. I don't know what to say" I replied.
"Alright. Then I'll ask you some questions. Firstly, what type of music do you like?"
"That's easy," I replied, "Rock."
He nodded in agreement.
"Nice, nice."
"Why did your parents move here?"
"Because of my dad's job. He works for a company in town and lived here. He only came home every few weeks and holidays. My mother decided it would make sense to move here so that we could all be together."
"What about a boyfriend?" his eyes twinkled.
"Nope. Never. It doesn't mean that I've never had crushes on guys before though." That was true. My love life was dead.
"Wow that one was unexpected. You've really never had a boyfriend?"
"Nope." He was staring at me frowning.
"What?"
"It's just that you're so-" the bell interrupted him. He shook his head erasing whatever he was about to say.
"Wait for me after school?" he asked, 'We can walk home together. It isn't that far."
"Yeah no problem. Meet you right here at 2:30pm." My stomach was filled with butterflies, and I pressed my lips together to keep from blushing.
"Great. See you later," he jogged back to the school, and then the bracelet lit up.
