Three days before she was expected to be released from the hospital I realised it would be easier for both of us if I bought a car. So I did.
~~~
On Saturday the nurses helped her into the car. It still smelled new, even though it was a used one. I loaded her wheelchair in the back. I drove slowly so as not to go over any unexpected bumps and hurt her.
I pulled into my drive and helped her into her chair. Then I realised I didn't have a ramp. I picked her up, chair and all, and carried her up the front steps, while she was trying not to laugh.
"I'm going to pick Martha up; I'll be right back," I said, setting her down.
"Okay,"
~~~
"Thanks so much, Mrs Hogan," I said for the third time in five minutes.
"It was really no problem, she's very good, and the kids had a ball!" She smiled as I walked down the steps.
"Goodbye!"
"Bye!"
~~~
Before Martha and I proceeded to the door, I knelt down and told her, "You know that lady we helped a few weeks ago? Well, don't bother her too much, she has a lot of cuts all over her, so be careful, okay?"
She actually nodded. I swear she could understand English.
We stepped inside and found Linda in the living room. "This is Martha,"
She rolled forward and pet Martha. "Oh, you're beautiful, aren't you Martha? Yes you are,"
Martha was practically in heaven.
~~~
I searched through the cupboard, looking for something to make. Linda rolled over and asked if she could cook something.
"Sure!" I said. "If you need help reaching anything, just let me know"
