We were halfway through town when Martha stopped dead in her tracks.

"C'mon, Love, just a little ways then we can turn around," I urged but she wouldn't budge. I knelt down in front of her. "What's wrong?"

She growled and spun around, racing back to the house. I yelped as she nearly took my arm off.

 She ran and didn't stop until we reached the door. It must have been quite a sight, Martha dragging me behind her. My heart nearly stopped. The door was wide open and the window beside the knob was shattered. I dropped her leash and she sniffed the glass for a second before dashing into the house and barking down the steps to the basement.

I finally caught up to her, wheezing, and she ran down into the basement. I flopped down on the floor and tried to catch my breath as I heard her growling and barking, then a man yelling. But it wasn't just an ordinary person.

"GET OFF, YOU MANGY DOG!!" Jake yelled from the darkness downstairs. I quickly got up and headed down the stairs, almost tripping and falling down them.

I stopped halfway and yelled, "Come up here and face me like a man!" I found my way back up and leaned over, placing my hands on my knees, trying to prepare for what was coming.

He stormed up the steps and grabbed hold of my my collar, shaking me around. "YOU GIVE ME BACK WHAT'S MINE!!" His rotten breath made me gag.

"SHE'S NOT YOURS!!" I spit back, earning a fist to the teeth. I blocked another with my forearm, but it hurt a lot more than I was expecting. 

Martha was still downstairs, which told me Linda was too. I had to keep him up where I was so he wouldn't hurt her, but I didn't know how long I would be able to. He swung at me again and I leaned back to avoid it, but lost my balance and stumbled onto the couch. I pulled my leg up and kicked him in the stomach, leaving him winded. I pushed him up against the wall and screamed in his face.

"FUCK OFF AND DON'T COME BACK!!" I could feel the blood rushing to my face.

He shoved me off him and that's when the fight really started.
