He took me by surprise when he said that. A good surprise by the end, but once I heard her name, I had to fight off tears. The news itself was exciting, and it was the only thing I could think about for days.

The following Saturday, Paul had to go to what he called a "very posh, very boring" party. He was still anxious about leaving me alone, so I went with him.
He was right. It was really boring. It was in one of those overly fancy houses you were afraid to breathe in; everything was perfectly placed and nothing had even a scratch, anywhere. I had no idea what to do, so I just followed Paul around.
A few minutes in, Paul leaned over and whispered, "If they offer you champagne, just take it, I'll take care of it," he stood back up as he saw someone walk toward him. "Ah, Mr Jacobson, how are you?"
The man started rambling on about his car and various other things. Paul smiled and nodded, throwing in a couple "Oh, yes, quite"s, but he didn't seem to notice. He wasn't even looking at him most of the time, and Paul turned his head to face me and crossed his eyes with a sarcastic smile. It took all I had to keep from laughing!
Eventually, he forgot what he was talking about and walked away. Paul leaned over to me again with a sly smile, nodding to a bar in the corner. "The drunker they get, the more you can get away with," He saw a man at the bar who was waving him over. "Like so,"
I followed him to the man who looked like he was hysterical. "Heya I gotta say hi to you before you're in conversation" he hiccoughed. "Who's yer lady?"
"A good friend of mine," He answered. "How's your wife?"
"Oh, you know Delil...De...Delilo..."
"You have mould on your nose," Paul told him straight to his face
"-Delilah..." He hiccoughed again. He didn't even notice! "Always flabber-floobering..."
"Uh, yeah, sure," He looked at me with a bemused/confused expression. Maybe it's not as boring as I thought....
