Chapter 9 ~ Christmas
(Y/n)'s POV
It's been a while since the incident. At first people would send strange looks at me, then everything started to go normally. Now it's Christmas. I'm standing with Sofia and James. They were leaving home for break.
My body shivered, it was freezing this Christmas and my robes really weren't helping me warm up. You'd imagine that the two were happy. They got to go home and celebrate and get presents and see family. Though, they were more worried than happy.
"Are you going to be ok?" Sofia asked, I nodded.
"I-I-I'll be fine... you should e-enjoy your break.." I glance at James who was frowning. Though Sofia quickly brightened the mood.
"We'll makes sure to send you a gift so you can celebrate Christmas too!" I smiled slightly and nodded. We exchanged hugs then they left. Leaving me alone and freezing.
I head back to my dormitory. Freezing in the hallways as I made my way back. I spotted Dumbledore and he motioned me over, I then spotted Professor Snape talking with him.
I walked over to them. Staying quiet and cold. Snape glances at me and Dumbledore smiles.
"I enjoy our conversations, thought I'd invite you to join." Dumbledore said gently, starting to walk again. I blink and look at Snape then Dumbledore. "How was Hagrid's surprise?" He asked.
"It went fine... at least he's not confused anymore of why I asked him to help me make a cake." I say, I got a chuckle out of Dumbledore and curious silence from the Professor.
"Have you finished his gift?" Dumbledore asked. I shook my head.
"N-no... I'm almost done but I need to mix a few colors to get some lighter and darker shades. Warm colors weren't the best choice... I didn't realize I had such little paint." I explain, I could now tell Snape was confused.
"Where do you get the time to do this?" He asked, confusion in his voice. I think about it for a second.
"I have a schedule... I don't really have specific times because it varies. I come back from classes, do homework, study, read, clean up my room, then I find something else to do and r-right now that's painting a picture of Hagrid for I guess now a late birthday present and Christmas gift." I explained, but like usual I over did it and muttered, "s-sorry..."
"Sorry? For what?" Dumbledore asked. I bite the inner part of my lip.
"F-for rambling...." I practically whisper from embarrassment. Dumbledore door gave a soft laugh.
"We all ramble sometimes, there is no need to apologize. Nobody's perfect (Y/n)." He said gently, I saw he was looking at me then looked down. "Now then, Professor Snape will escort you to the dungeon. I need to be elsewhere. Have a good break (Y/n)." He said before disappearing.
I fold in my lips and keep walking, though Professor Snape easily kept up with me. I didn't know why he kept up with me, or why he even bothered to talk to me today.
"You are very stubborn." He commented.
"Seems to be a common trait in Slytherin..." I mutter. Then realized that that was one of the reasons I was probably in Slytherin. I was starting to piece things together, but I flinch and squeak when Ms. Norris dashes by.
I quickly got out of her way, running into Professor Snape. He stopped me from almost falling then gently shoved me away.
"Pay attention next time." He growled, but it wasn't to me, it was more toward Ms. Norris. I watch as the cat hisses then trots off. We continue to walk and for once in a while he actually tried to start our conversations.
"Do you remember anything of what happened when you disappeared?" He asked, in his normal voice but gentler. I think, I hadn't really talked about it. Not even to Sofia or James. I then remember something that happened.
"Its very blurry but... I somewhat remember being attacked. I-I don't know by who but the memory is vague... I then remember being left at a tree near the school... I remember seeing Hagrid then blacking out..." I explain quietly, embarrassed of myself. He nodded.
"Do you remember our conversation?" He asked, I looked at him confused.
"No... what conversation? I just remember you hadn't talked to me for a while...." I left out the fact that it was painful, I remember it being painful, especially since the past while after my disappearance he barely talked to me. Though he started muttering hellos in the halls, which always made me smile.
"Yes. I noticed you think about that a lot. But we had a conversation because you were going to your dorm from the medical wing." He said, still walking with me.
"Yeah... I remember walking back to my dorm. I had a migraine earlier that day and it didn't go away till 3 am..." I whisper, then wonder if that had anything to do with me disappearing. Though we both got lost in thought, so when we did make it to the dungeon, he said goodbye then left to his classroom.
I went to my room and look around, wondering if I had missed anything or picked up anything from when I was cleaning up from when I had gone missing. My room was a mess the day I came back and... why didn't I think of this in the first place?
•~Time Skip~•
I had finished Hagrid's painting and was letting it dry. I had wrapping paper and had already decorated my room. It was Christmas Eve and I was getting ready to send out presents. I had to wait for Hagrid's present to dry. I had kept it a secret that I made a painting of everyone else.
I had specific color schemes depending on the house they were in. I used warm colors for Hagrid since he said he was in Gryffindor, so in other words I mostly used reds and yellows but at the same time I had to make darker and lighter colors. I used different shades of blue for Dumbledore, since I was never told what house he was in and he seems to like a light blue and grey color scheme.
I practically did the same for Sofia since she was in Ravenclaw, but I used a lot more darker colors in hers so hers was a fair mix of dark colors and light colors. Then for James I did the same color schemes for him as I did Hagrid's because he's in Gryffindor.
Finally, I had painted Snape with a green and silver colors. I had fun making all their paintings so of course I wrote them Christmas cards as well as adding a thank you in all of their cards.
When I finally had them all wrapped I had Rose White deliver them, but one at a time of course, just to not stress her out. When they were all delivered, me and Rose White spent all Christmas Eve together. Messes were made, but we had fun. She would converse with the owls that had sent me presents.
I was surprised that I got presents, just because I had never participated in Christmas before. I was excited.

When I woke up, it was Christmas morning. I close the windows and look and see presents under the tree, as well as a single card lying on the ground. I smile and suddenly hear meowing. It was coming from one of the boxes.
So I open that one first and a kitten jumped out. It was black and white with beautiful green eyes. It purred as it crawled onto my lap and laid down. I smiled brightly and pet it. I quickly look at the card that was inside.
"Dear (Y/n), thank you for the gift, it was beautiful. I got you one of these because I thought it would be a good companion to follow you around. Though they make me sniffle I'd figure you'd at least enjoy more company since you're so fond of creatures. Sincerely, Hagrid."
I smile and continue petting the kitten, thinking of a name while I open the single card that laid on the floor. I open it and my eyes automatically looked to see who it was from. I smiled seeing the name Severus Snape.
"Dear (Y/n), thank you for the gift though it wasn't necessary. It's very well made and you seem to have great talent in this area. I hope you'll continue your work and have a good Christmas. Sincerely, Severus Snape."
My smile brightened at the card then I open the next gift. It said it was from Sofia and when I opened it I wasn't surprised, but I wasn't disappointed either. She had given me books of all sorts. Nonfiction, fiction, and even sketchbooks and journals. I then read her card.
"Dear (Y/n), I'm no good at poetry and I know you like it but again I'm not good at it so here's my try of it.
Christmas trees are green,
they're lights give a colorful hue.
this white Christmas,
was meant for you.
Love from, Sofia"
I smile and giggle, thinking she did well. I set the gift aside as I open another gift. This one was from Dumbledore, I could tell. When I opened it, I saw glasses and more paint. The glasses were round with a silver lining.
I couldn't help but smile, I knew only Dumbledore could find the small things about me. Like how I have bad eyes. Everything is usually blurry but I don't like to complain, when I put them on I could see things a lot better. I was also thankful for the paint, so I could do more projects. I then pulled out the card.
"Dear (Y/n), it's a joy to have you as a student at this school. You are a very special individual and I know things now are confusing, but will make sense in the future. For now take these glasses, since I know your parents never recognized your faltering vision, and paint so you can make more astonishing works. Wishing you a merry Christmas, Dumbledore"
I smile and sigh happily. I open the second to last present and inside I saw a bunch of random stuff. I saw a sweater, markers, colored pencils, and even a picture book. I look through it and see the pictures we've taken together and smile. I read what was inside the front cover and smile brighter.
"A book for three unlikely friends to store photographed memories. A picture holds over a thousand words, but it's the memory that we cherish the most."
I then take the card and read it, my smile never faltering.
"Hey (Y/n), it's James. I've never really written to anyone before so this is kind of weird to me. I really liked your gift, my parents made sure I had it hung up in my room and my sisters been teasing me about it since this morning. I tried to think about what you liked so I just threw some things I bought for you together and think of some of the quote on quote "life quotes" you live by and threw one into the picture book. My parents got me a new camera so we'll get more pictures to add to our book. You're a great friend and I hope we stay friends."
I giggle at how dorky and awkward he was and look at the pictures again. Letting out a thankful sigh, I close the book then glance at the final present under my tree. I open it and inside laid a pillow. It was (f/c) with a white heart on it and inside the heart were black sown in words.
"For my dearest's night troubles, I gift the pillow that helped you rest during your saddest days."
I take it out of the box, there was no card. This pillow was comfortable and felt familiar. I set it down on the bed and let the kitten curl and sleep on it while I put everything up. This was an amazing first Christmas. I glance at the sleeping animal that lie on my new yet familiar pillow.
"What to name you..."
