Chapter 91: The Escape

Y/N POV

Alarms continued to sound as both myself and Ada rushed through the submarine. Shooting our way through soldier after soldier. At this point, it was obvious that my little sneak effort had been completely pointless.

What did concern me, was the circumstances behind this entire encounter. Someone who claims to be Ada contacts me, something Ada herself completely denies. I find a group of soldiers working for an unknown organization who attack me on sight. Finally there was those orders that were apparently from six months ago. Orders which involved Sherry Birkin! The last I'd heard about her was in a report Albert showed me after the Raccoon City incident where I found out she had also survived.

There was also the matter of that Jake Muller, I know I had never met him, nor heard of the Muller surname before. Yet, there was something about him that seemed strangely familiar. To say my interest was piqued now was an understatement.

I rounded a corner with Ada close behind. Ahead of us, we found ourselves confronted with a small barricade of soldiers. Nothing we couldn't deal with, we ducked behind a series of crates and returned fire.

It didn't take us long to take out the small barricade and grant us further access into the submarine. We continued navigating the series of corridors until at last, we came to a large open room, occupied by another large band of soldiers that instantly fired at us.

We both ducked behind a nearby railing providing us with a little cover as I turned to Ada and instructed "You stay here, try and pick off a few from here. I'll leap down and deal with them as quick as possible. We don't want to waste our time here."

Ada nodded and replied "Fine, but be quick about it." She readied her crossbow as I hopped down onto the level where all the soldiers were. I dodged their automatic fire and raced forward, instantly slaying one of the soldiers.

It was times like this that made me glad I found Excella's old notes on the PG67A-W serum. Without it, I'd have lost my abilities long ago. But thanks to those notes, I was able to replicate the serum and maintain my abilities. Making situations like this easy to get through.

I elbowed a second soldier, knocking him to the ground before stepping on him and killing him as well. All the while, Ada remained on that walkway picking off soldiers here and there with her crossbow.

The third soldier met his end when I kneed him in the face, the force shattering his helmet and the fourth went down after I fired several shots into his torso. At last, between both me and Ada's efforts, it didn't take us long to deal with all of them and once that was over with, I gestured for Ada to hop down as well.

We came across the door that could only be opened by a fingerprint. Funnily enough, Ada's worked perfectly and the door instantly opened. We headed through and found ourselves in another dark corridor.

As we walked, Ada stated "All we've found are those mysterious orders from half a year ago. Maybe he's trying to manipulate me." I raised an eyebrow and asked "Who, Simmons?" She nodded and said "Yes, why he dragged you into this. I don't know."

I also mentioned "There's also the matter of how I was lead to believe you had contacted me." Ada added "Yeah, but that seems strange, even for Simmons. Besides, he shouldn't even be aware of you. Or our history."

Her face then turned angry as she muttered "I hate playing other people's games." To this I agreed before saying "I doubt there's anything of value here. I suggest we leave." Ada stated "The rescue sub should be close. I've had enough fun here."

With our objective in mind, we continued making our way towards where this apparent 'rescue sub' was located. The sooner we left this place, the better. Aside from allowing me to reunite with Ada, it had just proven to be a waste of my time.

We approached a corner and upon peering around it, we saw a soldier walking away from our direction, I snuck up behind him and grabbed his head, violently slamming it into the ground, killing him. I then gestured for Ada to follow.

There was a second however Ada shot his head off with her crossbow. We eventually came to a ladder which lead us up to another corridor that came into another large room full of soldiers. Upon sight, they opened fire causing me and Ada to take cover.

We would occasionally pop back up and each time we would take one out with a single shot due to our accuracy and precision. Unfortunately though, as we killed the final soldier, he fired some leftover shots by accident and one of them hit a barrel, causing a massive explosion that made water pour into the submarine.

Ada mockingly ridiculed "Think about where you are when you shoot. I mean really." I let out a loud laugh before turning serious and saying "We don't have time for jokes, this sub doesn't have much time left."

Sure enough, a voice could be heard over the loudspeakers saying "THE HULL HAS BEEN COMPROMISED! PREPARE TO EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY!" I added in an urgent tone, "We've got to get out of here NOW!" Ada agreed, saying "You don't have to tell me."

Luckily, we saw a ledge with a door that we could easily reach with our Hookshots. Slamming the door opened we rushed through the corridors much quicker now. Occasionally an explosion would happen somewhere, causing the whole submarine to rock, making us have to regain our footing.

It's kind of strange that what seemed at first to be a minor explosion, could set off a chain reaction. As we both ran through the submarine, corridors began crumbling and fires were bursting up all over.

With the help of our Hookshots though we were able to spring our way through most obstructions. The corridors were now bathed in red light and any opposition we met were taken care of instantly, we couldn't afford to waste any time on them.

It soon became apparent that the submarine was beginning to turn vertically as the initially flat paths became steeper and steeper until we arrived at a large room were we were literally having to crawl up what was the floor.

Of course, things had to get harder, soon it was too hard to climb up the floor and we eventually began falling. Before we reached the bottom of the room though, we grabbed onto the edge of another corridor and began walking.

It was kind of funny really, we were walking on the walls while the floor and ceiling were on either side of us. I groaned a bit though and commented "Well, looks like that rescue sub is out of the question then."

Ada reassured me. "The torpedo controls should be up ahead. That's our best bet now." I grinned and said "Risky, but clever. I like it." As soon as I said these words, a surge of water began rushing towards us.

We had to hurry as we used our Hookshots to get to higher ground. We then ran down another corridor before swiftly climbing a ladder. The water just kept on following us, one false move and we would both go down with this submarine.

After rushing through some more corridors, we at last arrived at what I believed were the torpedo controls. And it was also here we met an interesting B.O.W, unlike any we had encountered before.

They appeared as a small cluster of flies, they would remain as a swarm and charge towards you, biting away. One thing that made these interesting was that due to them being much smaller entities in a swarm, they were harder to deal with and therefore, it was better for us to just leave them behind.

Image of a Gnezdo swarm:

When we eventually reached the torpedo room itself, we discovered that the power to the console that operated them had been damaged in the chaos. Ada commented "It'll take more than a handprint to operate this."

I suggested "Perhaps if there was a way to restart the power, then we would be able to use it?" Ada replied "Good thinking. It should be somewhere around here." We headed off to search for a way to fix the power problem in the area.

Eventually, after running, crawling and even swimming through multiple desecrated corridors we finally came across the answer to our problem. A circuit breaker on the wall. Pulling the lever seemed to restore the power to the console.

I stated "Okay, power's on. Now let's see how much coaxing I have to do." Heading back the way we came, we encountered many more of those Gnezdo insect creatures. Of course, we didn't have the time to deal with them, so we just went right past them until we arrived back at the console.

As soon as we attempted to use said console, it instantly spoke in a female voice, saying "Identify yourself." Ada initially responded "I'm a little busy right now, try back later." The voice on the other end coldly replied "Please state your name."

This caused her to cave in and say "Alright, I'll bite, Ada Wong." A male voice we heard saying "Authorization approved." However we then heard the female voice again saying "Ms Wong. Six months ago you performed experiments on humans in Edonia. You were following Simmons' orders, but it was your choice to do so. How do you plan to atone for your crimes?"

I turned to her asking "Is this true?" Ada however stated "Interesting story. Might want to do some fact checking though. I don't work for Simmons, I've got nothing to atone for." Again, a male voice was heard saying "Authorization approved."

And once again, that female voice said "I know everything about you Ms Wong, everything... I know what it is you're looking for, a world of chaos. Am I right?" To this Ada replied "If you know me so well, you shouldn't need validation. A world of chaos? Not number one on my list. But it would make Simmons squirm, so I might reconsider."

A third time, the male voice stated "Authorization approved." The female voice said "A perfect answer, final question. Are you ready?" Ada bluntly replied "Hold that thought, it's my turn. Who are you?" The male voice then stated "Authorization approved."

The female voice wasn't done yet as it said "I have no obligation to answer you, my final question. What are you fighting?" Ada replied "Whatever the hell gets in my way. And the virus always seems to make a cameo."

At last the female voice stated "I like your answer, identity verification complete. Simmons is waiting for you. I'm looking forward to seeing how this unfolds." The male voice finally said "Authorization complete. Releasing locks now."

Once these words were spoken a hatch above us opened up, using our Hookshots, we were able to propel ourselves up, we acrobatically leaped off a wall, grabbed a pipe and eventually landed on an outstretched platform.

It was at this point we heard a ringing noise, we found it was actually coming from Ada's blue cube. Mine however remained dormant. She held hers up and a male face appeared, I instantly associated the face to that of Derek Simmons, National Security Advisor to the U.S Government and the man Ada had informed me about.

Image of Derek Simmons:

He simply asked "Find anything interesting?" His question caught my interest as his tone indicated that he knew what would happen. It was safe to assume he had lured Ada here. Why he chose to bring me as well and also find a way to impersonate both Ada's voice and appearance was beyond me.

Ada answered "A recording from 6 months ago." Simmons grinned and stated "Then the trip was worthwhile." Water began to pour into the room as Simmons asked "What's the matter? You both still haven't figured it out? Allow me to clarify. Tomorrow, the U.S will suffer a bioterrorist attack. After that, China. And then major cities all around the world will suffer the same fate. At the hands of Neo-Umbrella's very own Ada Wong and her loyal puppet Y/N Wesker."

While he said this, Ada was opening up one of the torpedoes for us to climb in. I snatched the communicator up off the ground and asked in a sarcastic tone "Derek Simmons I presume? I believe you know who I am."

Simmons just maintained his smirk and replied "Y/N Wesker, it's high time we met face to face like this." I took my sunglasses off and allowed him to see my bright orange eyes as I glared sharply at him and snapped "Glad you're familiar, then I presume what the consequences for angering me are. If not, just ask Neil Fisher." Simmons seemed confused and asked "Who?" To this I offered a simple "Exactly." Before hanging up.

Ada was able to get one of the torpedoes open as she said "If you think we're going to sit back and be your scapegoats Simmons, you've got another thing coming." With that we hung up and climbed into the torpedo.

It was slowly loaded into the barrel before rapidly firing out of the submarine. It shot to the ocean's surface just as the submarine fell to the bottom of an underwater chasm and exploded.

This experience was far from over though...
