Chapter 109, Epilogue: One Final Act of Forgiveness, the End of Everything

Ada POV

As soon as Y/N had hung up, I wasted no time, heading back to the helicopter and flew out to the oil field, luckily, I'd heard about an oil field not too far from the city, so I had a strong hunch that that was where Y/N was.

I was determined to reach the location before it was too late. However it was all for nothing, as I arrived at the site of the oil field, I was met with nothing but a pile of semi-submerged rubble and pillars of black smoke coming off it.

I pulled my communicator out and swiftly attempted to contact Y/N, after the first time resulted with no connection, I tried again, this time more panicked. After that, I tried again, this time muttering "Come on, come on! Pick up!"

It was only after several attempts that reality hit me abruptly. I just remained motionless for a moment. I don't know why, I'd lost allies, co-workers and even partners in the past, but Y/N was different.

He was perhaps the first person I'd met to view me as a friend. And of course that friendship developed into something more. Something I'd never thought I'd experience in my lifetime. And yet, I felt it anyway. Love.

A lone tear rolled down my face, I wasn't the crying sort so that was all life would get from me. In the end, I just sat back, closed my eyes and muttered his final words to me "Goodbye, Y/N Wesker. We'll maybe meet again in another life, under better circumstances..."

Timeskip, a few days after the incident in China and Y/N's death...

Chris POV

As my car came to a stop, I just leant against the head rest with my head in my right hand. The events in China continued to weigh on my mind. First all my men were gone, then Piers and lastly but most surprisingly Y/N...

Shortly after I escaped the oil field, I came across Jake and Sherry. I instantly noticed that Jake seemed strangely quiet. No aggression towards me for his father's death, not even a single snarky comment.

Questioning them, Sherry explained everything. Apparently Y/N purposely infected himself with Uroboros in order to take down a B.O.W they were fighting. And much like Piers, he insisted on staying behind. But for different reasons.

Not because of his mutation,  but because he wanted to atone for the wrong-doings of not just him but his siblings as well. I'd heard about Alex Wesker and Y/N's contribution to stopping her. His actions here though definitely were a surprise.

I reached round and took Y/N's Samurai Edge out of its holster. Looking at it now, I understood his reason for giving it to me. He must have thought about sacrificing himself. Now I guess all I could do was honour his last wish.

Getting out of the car, I stared up at the house in front of me. I sighed to myself. Of course Y/N would want me to come here. But I was still surprised, after everything that happened. It seems he never really forgot one thing.

Slowly approaching the door, I gave it a faint knock...

Rebecca POV

A sudden knock on my door snapped me away from my work. I closed the laptop in front of me before standing up and heading over to the door. I unlocked it before opening it and my eyes widened when I saw Chris standing there, a sad smile on his face.

I offered a warm one in return and said "Chris, good to see you." Chris just gave another smile saying "Hey Rebecca. Good to see you too." I held the door open wider for him and offered "Why don't you come in?"

Chris nodded and sat down on the living room sofa. I sat on another one across from him and asked "So, how are you? What brings you to this neck of the woods?" I said the last part jokingly however Chris' expression remained sad. He reached around back and too my surprise, he pulled out a handgun!

Not just any gun, but a S.T.A.R.S Samurai Edge handgun! I hadn't seen one of those in years. I'd locked mine away shortly after the Arklay Mansion incident. Chris just asked "You remember this right?"

I just stared at it for a moment before turning to Chris and saying "Yes, but what does this mean?" The expression on Chris' face became even more upset. What he said next caught me off guard. "I encountered Y/N during the encounter in China. He gave me this, told me to bring it to you."

I zoned out after that, my mind was completely racing. Y/N. I hadn't seen or heard from him since the Arklay Mansion incident. When Chris, Jill and Barry told me him and and his bother had betrayed us and were working for Umbrella, I was heartbroken. Y/N was always like the brother I'd never had, he taught me how to handle a gun, he listened to my petty teenage problems.

I was so angry, I locked myself in my room for days. But eventually I came to terms with the fact that Y/N wasn't who I'd thought him to be. Even then though, there was a part of me that was convinced there was a good side to him. Eventually I asked Chris "Where is he now?"

Again, Chris fell silent and I repeated "Chris, where is Y/N?" Chris kept quiet before he finally replied, saying something "I'm sorry Rebecca. Y/N is dead, he never made it out of the oil field before it exploded."

A single tear ran down my face, I looked at the gun, then Chris and asked "How did he die?" He shook his head and replied "I wasn't there. But he apparently sacrificed himself. He gave his own life to protect that of his nephew."

This caught my attention "Nephew?" Chris nodded "Yeah, apparently Albert had a son. Y/N stayed behind to allow this boy to escape. His name's Jake." I nodded, still fighting tears over Y/N's death.

Chris then added "Y/N also told me to apologize to you on his behalf. I think he had suspicions he wouldn't make it. So he told me to say sorry, for everything. It seems even in his final moments, you did come to mind for him."

I stood up, and slowly stood up. I walked over to one of the cupboards. On top of it was a framed photo. I picked it up and just looked at it. It was a picture taken shortly after I was first accepted into S.T.A.R.S, it was of me and Y/N. We both smiled at the camera as if nothing could go wrong.

The tears were openly falling now. I rubbed my hand against the picture and said "Oh Y/N." I'd kept the picture as a way of convincing myself that Y/N wasn't pure evil like his brother. I guess after all these years, I had been right.

I turned back to Chris and said "Thank you. For coming to me." Chris sighed and said "It's what Y/N would have wanted." We shared a smile. I did wonder though, where was Y/N's nephew now?

Jake POV

I stood in front of the rack of sunglasses muttering "No, no, not that one. Definitely not that." I was looking for a very specific type and eventually I noticed it, a pair of completely black shades, no additional colours.

Reaching out for them, I stated "Ah, there we go." I picked them up, went to the counter and purchased them. Once all that was over with, I stepped outside, shielding my eyes from the sun, before placing the newly-bought sunglasses on.

I headed over to my motorbike, getting on it, I revved up the engine. But before I set off, I just thought for a moment. Y/N's actions were confusing to say the least. But I heard his words and understood them.

The Wesker family had done nothing but hurt and kill people. Now I was the last person with ties to that name and while I didn't go by it, I felt that Y/N's sacrifice had given me a newfound obligation.

A grin spread across my face as I pushed on the peddle and sped off down the desert road. The fun was only just getting started...

Author's Note: And that's it for this book! I really want to thank everyone who's been sticking with me while I've been writing this. I went through a bit of a rough patch with one of my other books and it really knocked my confidence with writing as a whole so I really appreciated all the positive support I've gotten while writing this. I really hope you enjoyed the final chapter and I hope you enjoy some of my other books later on. Of course, for the final time, thank you for reading as well!
