Chapter four

Loëk's P.O.V

"Prince Loëk? Prince Loëk? I'm sorry sir, but it's time for you to wake." A butler's voice cut into my sleep. I growl and turn to the other side. "Sir? Please wake up." He said again. I growl, cover my eyes with my right arm, and say: "Stop with your "pleases" it's pathetic. Just get out of my room, and I'll get up on my own." The butler didn't say anything and left. I lay there, unmoving. I hate it when they make me wake up at five a.m on a Saturday. "You should not have been so rude." My wolf, Ice, said. "Shut it, Ice." I growl at him. "You've already growled at the butler, are you seriously going to growl at me?" "Shut up." "You've already said that too." I growl once more, and get up. My room was large, with a king sized bed, a large embroidered red carpet, a huge bookcase, a wardrobe, chandelier, and a balcony. Now that I thought about what Ice had said, I was feeling guilty about snapping at the butler. I'll just apologize later. I walked over to my wardrobe and changed into my usual clothes. A white undershirt, dark purple vest, white jacket, white pants, and black boots. As always I wore my silver engraved cross. I never took it off. I looked at the mirror that was hanging over a small table next to the wardrobe. I hade icy white-blue hair, aqua colored eyes, and skin so pale it almost looked like I was a ghost. I was well built, hours of training tend to do that. I looked at my reflection, and my reflection looked back. I jerk my head away, not wanting to see myself anymore. I've seen enough of myself. Turning sharply, I walked too the balcony door and walked out onto it. It was still dark since it was probably still only five. The night was cool, and gust of freezing air blew my hair. I didn't mind, the cold. I actually preferred it. Lately, ever since the selection had been announced and the girls selected, I've been feeling odd. Now, today was the day of the selection. The day I could possibly meet her. Ice paced anxiously, whining. I know exactly how he felt. He wanted her. He wanted our mate. Ever since I turned seventeen, my desire for my mate had become even stronger. Of course once I learned about mates at the age of fifteen I've wanted one. The one person in the entire world who knows you better then anyone else? Someone who cares about you no matter what? The person that completes you? Of course I want to meet her. I want to meet my soulmate. But it's so damn hard. I don't know the first thing about her, but I want her desperately. I don't know what she looks like, what her personality was, Hell, I don't even know her name. But I want her. I know that when I find her, I'll know. It's hard waiting for her though. Hopefully she'll be in the selection. I don't know how much longer I can wait.

"Loëk! Dude, you listening?" My younger brother, Levi asked me. I was at the breakfast table with my family. It was six-thirty now. Everyone was awake because of the selection. Levi had been asking me about something, but I spaced out. "No, I wasn't listening. What did you say?" I ask. He sighed. Levi was fourteen years old, and looked like me except, he was shorter, not as pale, and had blonde hair instead of white. Today he wore a blue button up shirt, black pants, and brown knee high boots. "I was asking you if you think your mate will be in the selection." He said, cutting up a piece of ham. "Well I certainly hope so!" Mother cut in. "It'd be such a waste if we arranged all of this and it turns out she's not there!" Mother had the same icy blue hair I did, with pale skin and green eyes. She wore a gown the color of plums, and a gold necklace. I sigh and pick at my food. "I agree." I mumbled. "Sit up, dear. You look very depressing when your all slouchy like that." I immediately sit up. "And do you have to wear those clothes? She asked, disapprovingly. Honestly, can't you wear a suit?" "Oh leave the boy alone, Grace!" Father said, laughing. He was a buff man with aqua eyes, blonde hair, and tanned skin. He wore a suit, but the tie was undone so it looked like he had gotten lazy and just didn't tie it. "But Conner, he could possibly meet his mate today! Mother argued. He must look respectable!" "

"Grace my love, if his mate is indeed in the selection then I'm sure she wouldn't care what kind of clothes he was wearing. Heck, he could show up in nothing but his underwear, for all she'd care!" He exclaimed. Right at this time I had taken a drink of water and promptly spit it out when I heard him. "Conner!!" Mother scolded. "How could you say something as inappropriate as that?" "What? I was just joking, dear. And besides its not like she'll never see him"- "CONNER!!" Mother shouted, thankfully interrupting him. We may be royalty, but we're still a family. And it is a mother's and father's job to say awkward and uncomfortable things to embarrass their children. It is also the children's job to try not to die of embarrassment from their parents. So far I had lived through seventeen years of not dying. I can only hope that I'll be able to survive until I take the throne. Even then, if my mate hears some of the baby stories my mother tells about me, I might just kill myself. Ice had heard the conversation and was now wondering if he could actually get me to show up in my underwear at the selection. No way in hell, Ice. I swiftly tell him. But it's just our mate! He countered. Yeah, and forty-nine other girls. He shut up after this comment. I sigh and go back to eating/picking at my food. Levi, done eating, began tapping on his water glass with a fork. The noise echoed through the room. Levi hadn't had the talk about mates yet, so aside from knowing that a mate was important, he was blissfully ignorant. After a few more minutes I excuse myself from the table and go too the studying hall. My tutor had arranged for me to take some tests on mathematics, literature, and history, today and I would like to hurry up and get it over with.

The tutor looked through my tests, checking the answers. I watch him, arms crossed. It is now eight, and I would prefer to go and read in the library then watch this fool grade my papers when I've already got all of the answers correct. Finally, he looked up and cleared his throat. "Very good, Prince Loëk. He said, his voice snooty. All correct." "I'm out of here then." I say, getting up to leave. "Wait a moment please." He drawled. I hold back a growl and slowly turn around to face him.

"What?" I snap angrily.

"Sir, the selection is today, is it not?"

"It is. Why are you asking?"

"Well you see sir, my daughter tried for the selection and didn't get in. You know my daughter, I'm sure?" He asked.

I certainly did. Since she was the daughter of the royal tutor she often visited the castle and threw herself at me every chance she got. I threw her down every time. As if I'd be with anyone but my mate.

"I know your daughter. What of it?" I say, already expecting the answer.

"Well sir, I was wondering since you and my daughter are on such good terms, you could perhaps, except her into the selection?"

"All the places are filled, you know this. Only fifty girls are excepted."

"Yes sir, of course. But you see, I've looked through the list of the selected girls, and I couldn't help but notice that more then half of them are not from noble or high ranking families. So I thought that if you can dismiss one of them, my daughter can take her place. For example, there is a girl named Winter Lea-"

"There is no way I am going to dismiss a girl who could possibly be my mate for your whore of a daughter." I interrupt, greatly annoyed.

He gapped at me, shocked. I turn and stalk away, feeling darkly satisfied. I was on my way to the library when Levi, came and began to walk beside me. "So, what do you think she's like? Your mate I mean." He asked, curious. "I don't know." I say, shrugging. "Do you think she's pretty?" "It wouldn't matter what she looks like." I retort. "She's my soulmate. Looks don't matter." "Oh. Well, it still wouldn't hurt if she was pretty." He joked, cracking a smile. I give him a strained smile. He just doesn't understand the importance of a mate. We reach the library at nine, which meant that there was only a few hours left until the girls from the selection came. "See ya bro." Levi grinned and walked away. I went into the library. It was very large with white pillars and staircases. The bookshelves went up to the ceiling and wrapped around the walls. It was lit by several chandeliers so the entire place had even lighting. Armchairs, and small tables were scattered throughout the library so there were places to settle down and read. The library was one of my favorite places in the whole castle.

I spent four hours in the library, reading. At one o'clock, a butler came to get me. "Your highness, it is time for you to meet the selected." I close my book and put it on the table besides me. To be honest I was nervous. I could possibly meet my mate today. I took a shaky breath and stood up. "Follow me." The butler turned and began walking. I followed him, and on the way out, a scent wafted in through the vent near the door.

It was the most wonderful smell in the world, a smell that made my wolf, Ice howl for joy. It smelt like chocolate cake and honey, but mixed with smoke from a fire. "Mate!" Ice howled. "Where is mate? Mine! I want her!" I  immediately turn to the butler. Where are they?! Where are the selected?!? I yell, Ice beginning to take control of my body. The butler took a step back, scared. Th-three rooms to the right, down the hall.

He stammered. I shoved past him and ran to where they were. I pounded on the door, only to discover it was locked. "LET ME IN, DAMN IT!! LET ME SEE HER!!" I roared, outraged that someone was keeping me from my mate. Whoever locked me out, is going to pay. I pounded one doors, trying to break them down. Ice was going crazy. He wanted to get in there, to take her. I wanted the same thing. "I WANT HER!!! LET ME IN!!!" I slammed against the door. "LOËK!! What the hell are you doing?!?!" Father yelled, running towards me. The butler had went to get father and Levi. "Loëk, calm down man!" Levi cried, trying to grab my arm. I threw if off and pounded on the door with all my might. "I WANT HER!! SHE'S MINE!! LET ME SEE HER!!!" I howled, feeling the doors almost give way. I was about to give it the final blow, when father grabbed me from behind and dragged me away from the door. "Let me go! She's in there, my mate's in there!" I cursed and thrashed in his arms, trying to break his grip. "Levi, help me!" Father yelled, his voice strained. Levi grabbed my right arm, father grabbed my left, and together they were able to drag me away and into an empty room. NO!! Ice howled. "Their taking us away from our mate!" "Let me go!" I yell. "Get off of me! Let me see my mate!" Father and Levi let go off me, breathless from the effort of holding me back. "Lock the door, Levi. Quick!" Father ordered. Levi quickly closed the door and locked it. I panted hard, more from anger then being tired. "Why did you stop me?!" I demand, barely containing my rage. "You can't just barge in there!" Father cried. "And why not?!" "Because you would scare the living daylight out of her! Not to mention all the other girls!" He argued. I growl, but know he's right. If I broke down the doors, yelling for her, my mate would sure to be freaked out and the last thing I want to do is scare her. "Don't worry, dude." Levi said, patting my arm. "You'll be able to see her later." "I better." I grumble, turning away. Despite my anger of being locked out I couldn't help but smile. After all this time. . .

I had finally found my mate.
