Chapter 5: Languages & Memories
Kyra's POV:
A day had past since Dex's strange visit. He hadn't returned since then. I was in the kitchen making breakfast and Mae was on the floor. Emma and Emilie were in Mae's room and Zay and JJ ere in Dex's old room. I was sleeping on the couch. The arrangement wasn't perfect but it worked for the most part.
Mae was on the floor and moaning, like last night. I wondered if she was ever going to shut up. Her Dad walked threw the living room and stepped over her, on his way to work. I didn't think he liked having so many people in one house. I don't think I would if I was him.
Slowly more people woke up. JJ and Zay were first, then there was Emilie and Emma. Mae was still groaning on the floor. We were all drinking our homemade protein drinks when Mae shot stright up and started to scream.
"Will someone shut her up!" I screamed trying to be heard over Mae's racket. Eventually the noise stopped.
"Mae what was that all about?" JJ asked, curiously.
"Om bac-na la." Mae said. All of us stared at her in shock. I'd never heard those words before. It sounded like gibberish but Mae seemed to know what she was saying.
"Mae? Quit joking around it's not funny." I said, clearly annoyed.
"Om na. Om na!"She said, in a panicked voice.
"She's clearly lost it." JJ muttered.
"Gam da woo." Mae muttered.
We were all silent for a moment, unsure of what to do. Then came a knock and the door flew open. Dillan walked in, clearly not knowing what was going on. He looked at us with our panicked faces.
"What is it?" He asked.
"Na wak-na. Na wak-na!" Mae said to Dillan.
His eyes went wide, before repiled, "Woo lim lilviv." He responded.
"Woo ca wak-na?" Mae asked.
"Ca." He replied simply. He turned to us, our faces full of bewilderment.
"You understand her?" I asked, shocked.
"Of course I do. She's speaking Misazi, I think. Most humans don't understand it, and never will. It's the native tongue of a werecat. They are the only ones who understand it, and they don't need to be taught." He said.
"But Mae's not a werecat." Zay pointed out.
"That's why I'm completely confused. Most werecat's can't even speak it, without it being spoken to them first. It's how I understand her." Dillan said.
"Om nana!" Mae cried. It was a pityful sound, that I've never heard her say before.
"Woo nok na nitoo." Another voice sounded from behind. I looked to see Dex standing at the door way, still wide open from when Dillan entered. His eyes were glowing red but Mae met his gaze fiercely.
"Woo na nat om nok!" She screeched back to his.
"What are they saying?" I whispered out loud.
"Dex said that Mae isn't pure enough to speak the language. Mae told his to basically not boss her around." Dillan whispered back.
"Om da cat!" Dex hissed.
"Woo na cat!" Mae hissed back.
"Dex says he's the leader, and Mae told his he's no leader to her." Dillan whispered.
"Pea-nu nana om!" Dex said, clearly restraining not to attack his sister.
"Woo la." Mae muttered.
"Na!" Dex hissed.
"Woo la! Mae said louder.
"NA!" Dex hissed, clearly mad. I knew what was going to happen next. He dropped to the ground, and grew his brown fur, he hissed a warning to Mae then started to walk off, eager to cool down.
"Woo la!" Mae yelled at the retreating werecat. Suddenly he stopped in his tracks.
"What'd she say?" I asked, concerned for my friend.
"She called Dex evil. Of course he denied it. She should have let him walk off." Dillan murmered, barely loud enough for me to hear.
That's when Dex pounced on top of Mae, ready to hurt her. I took a step forward, ready to intervein but Mae was ready. She kicked Dex's gut, and he flew off of her.
"See-na!" Mae hissed. Dex looked just looked amused, but he walked away anyways. mae turned back to face us as soon as he'd left a smile gleaming on her face. There was something else though. It disappeared almost as soon as I saw it, but I saw it. Her eyes were glowing red, almost like Dex's. I had to have imagined it, right? Or could Mae possibly be a werecat?

Red's POV
I was at my house sorting threw some old junk when a loud banging came from the door. I rolled my eyes at how Dillan had probably lost his key. So it swung open the door without a second thought, but someone else was waiting for me there. It was Dex.
"Gog! Gog!" He said to me. Imediatly I understood him.
"What are you so angry about?" I asked, in Misazi.
"Mae! That's what I'm so angry about!" He replied in Misazi.
"So you thought it would be a good idea to come to my house to blow off steam? I'm sorry Dex but I don't particularly like you that much. So I really think--" I trailed off when I realized he wasn't listening to a word I was saying. "You don't really care do you?"
"Nope." He said, "I just need to know how to make myself stop talking in Misazi. I can't control my Pride by speaking gibberish!"
"All werecats can understand Misazi, Dex." I said with a sigh.
"Well some cat should have informed my Pride. I woke up and started talking like this. Dillan understood me so I knew you would too. You need to help me." Dex said, it was more of a plead than a order.
"Why would I do that? I don't even know you!" I hissed back to him.
"Fine. Let's get to know each other. What's your name, Red?" He asked me, voice baring a challenge.
"My name is Red. I was born with it, and I'll die with it. I've never gone by any other name my entire life." I hissed back.
"We both know that's a lie, but what ever. If you won't tell me, then I'll see if your memories will." He said. He got out a bag, and pulled out a powder. He blew it in my face and my mind went straight to the memory I hated most of all.
. . .
"Do you love her?" I asked him.
"What? I--" He said, trying to make up a excuse.
"Dillan, tell me the truth. Do you love Willow?" I asked, my voice shaking.
"Yes." I finally heard him sigh.
"I knew it." I said, my voice barely a whisper.
"But I love you too. Please, don't take it out on her. I love you." He said. I turned away, not able to look at him.
Suddenly he was standing in front of me. He gripped my hand and could have sworn I head him murmur, "I want to do this, at least one more time." Then he pressed his lips against mine and I felt the world float away. I kissed him back, hard. Our bodies fit perfectly together, and it felt like he was mine, and mine alone.
I felt his tongue beg for entrance but I kept my lips firmly together. He bit my lip, and I opened my mouth just the slightest bit. I wished it could be like this for forever, but deep inside I knew it couldn't. I finally pulled away, and I couldn't meet his eye.
I knew he was shaking his head now, as if I had somehow forced his hand. Although I knew I hadn't, and he knew it too. He walked away, so silently I almost didn't hear him. Then I laid on the ground, and cried. When all my tears were shed, I finally was greeted by a bitter sleep.
. . .
"How dare you!" I hissed to Dex, awakening from my memory, "That was private! Can't you respect something!"
Dex looked bewildered, as though he was in the memory too. I guess he might have been. "I'm sorry Red, I didn't mean too. This is supposed to find your deep secret. I suppose I thought that would be your name. I mean Maybeliwhatsit, is kind of long. I just wanted to know..."
I stared at him, not sure of what to say, but somehow I found the words "I was once called May, like your sister. Funny really. I always wanted to change my name, then the girl with the very name I despised my whole life comes and does it for me."
"So about the memory, did you love Dillan?" Dex ventured.
"Yes. It was less than six months ago, but I still feel like I was young and foolish. I knew from the very start it would never work out. I knew he loved Willow more than me." I replied sadly.
"Who is Willow anyways? Did she live on the island? Is she a werecat?" Dex asked.
"Willow is a friend. She does live on the island, but she isn't a werecat. She's a werewolf." I said, with a sigh.
"Really? I thought those were just thinks from a movie..." Dex trailed off, realizing how stupid he sounded.
"Thanks for dropping bye Dex, but I think it's time to leave." I said, not even bothering to be nice.
"Thanks for letting me. Also I'm sorry, for everything." With that Dex turned and ran out the door, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
